    I've actually done this myself in the local club...the prize money was zero so I potted the first red & black and then I purposely missed the next red ...left the break on 8 in protest

      Nah, he tried to open the pack a bit twice in the beginning and missed both times, had to play the long red the second time. Probably because he didn’t take it to seriously. He’s just very good at getting out of what might have been a though spot for lesser players

      John Yule trouble is that Ronnie IS THE REASON the prize is so small lol it used to be a lot of money and a car,Ronnie got £147 000 that’s over $200 000 for his 5min 20 sec maximum (and that is was the original prize not because of the speed)as Ronnie has made so many the have lowered the prize

      nz rockdj if u are talking to me mate I got my facts off of tv interviews when ronnie was saying how they used to give good money and a car for every 147 but now they don't and he was discussing it with (I think john virgo) and Virgo was saying that they have lowered the prize because of ronnie,cause before him it was a lot rarer occurrence so they paid bigger prizes but because he so prolific at getting 147s it's been lowered,they were also saying that that's wrong no matter how many ronnie makes it's still a fantastic achievement so the prize should reflect that achievement and they thought it was wrong to lower it,and they were joking around with Ron saying your 2 good for your own good mate.so right or wrong that's where I got it from and no i can't remember what event they were interviewing him after or when it was but I THINK it was after his 146 but I'm not 100% on that. Anyway mate if it was me u were talking 2 then as I say it was ronnie and the interviewers i got my "facts" from NOT my personal theory lol

      You all should really know 147 isn't potentially the highest break. If you use a free ball it could be a break of 155 with a potential score of thousands if not more from numerous fouls from your opponent before you make said break.

    very sensible play , stuff that the tournament that doesn't pay , 147 are rare , that will make tv more than the winner , guess sponsors don't know snooker . Ronnie could have played for 147 and then deliberately missed black . he played smart , got a 146 so he gets top break

    If he makes 147, the viewership increases for the next televised tournament he enters. There was a time when Tiger Woods made as much for an appearance fee just to play in a tournament as the eventual winner of the event won. The networks are wise to the fact that their ratings go through the roof when the biggest name in any sport agrees to make an appearance, and viewers translate to money. Ronnie understands what his name is doing for them and expects to be paid.

    It may be Arrogance or it may be confidence, but one things for sure...He knows how to pot a ball...Yes he does things in a unique way and maybe not to everyones liking...The fact he's just that good, he can actually just choose what break he wants to make very early on...146 breaks are also actually quite rare, which i think he stated in an after match interview.
