  • The game turns into tactical play. Some nervy shots make more exciting this fantastic final.
    The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
    Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
    This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

      @Stephen Greenhorn Completely agree and especially because Ronnie said he gets bored easily, later skipped tournaments and often mentioned retirement circa 10 years ago but then his relationship with Steve Peters gave him a new outlook.

      @Stephen Greenhorn Sportsmen come along and pull people into sport be it Messi in football, Mike Tyson in boxing, Ronnie in snooker. I hadn’t thought about it but my interest in F1 lessened after Senna. I am sure snooker suffered after ‘83/‘84 when Alex Higgins star waned. Cricket after Ian Botham etc.

    Davis takes on the last fatal red long shot and sells out but doesn't take on the close red at 23:00. Announcer says the white is too close to the red but I beg to differ. There are stroke techniques to deal with shots that close to each other, no problem. I am quite shocked Davis didn't have a answer for it, a world class player.
    I shoot shots closer than that, it's about knowing how to set up at the end of your stroke. Not that I am a world class player, but I always find it rather annoying that when I take on shots like that and my opposition always rushes in to ask if I am going to play it straight ahead and then say it will be a foul because of double contact and I just say watch the hit and execute it with no foul and they stand there still wondering if I did in fact foul. They can't believe you can still screw back or follow the cue ball especially, thinking it had to have double hit to still follow after contact, but they are not sure.
    Of course they are baffled, but they know subconsciously that it couldn't have double hit because it would look and sound different.
    I examined this shot closely just to make sure, there was plenty of room for Davis to shoot the shot.
    I'm very surprised. Davis deserved to lose, as bad as they both played, but understandable at this level and difficulty. I am not the one to criticize and as a matter of opinion, as bad as they played, I say that in jest sort of. Imo, all things considered, they both played great, just not perfect clearance, but come on, these are very difficult layouts with reds on the rail.
    Us club players, even decent players, might still take one hour to finish from those two last games with the reds like that.
    These guys, even when struggling, are devastating.

    • @heavyrules6699
      @heavyrules6699 Před 4 lety

      The cue ball just feathered the red and the red barely moved, i think the distance between cue ball and red for that shot was about a half a ball, and it didn't look straight to worry about a push shot, he had to judge the angle at that close distance with the ball close to the cushion and the red had to travel half the table, he was worried about not potting it.
      I never played snooker but it much harder compared to reds at the same distance and in the middle of the top or bottom cushion (closer to pot).

    • @FIVE-0-APOCALYPTO
      @FIVE-0-APOCALYPTO Před 4 lety +1

      @@heavyrules6699 that's exactly what happened, you are correct. I understand your point but it doesn't negate what I said, it's just that the particular stroke and set up I described, is not in Steve's arsenal or he figured the safety was the better choice.
      I know the shot can be executed, I studied what happened exactly like you because I wasn't just going to trust the camera angle, because the cb might have been closer to the red than percieved, but I know it wasn't.
      I know it's dangerously close, but I know for a fact that, that in pool, I seen people who can draw or screw back those shots even when closer to a object ball.
      But pool balls are bigger and heavier than snooker balls, so maybe it's not possible to execute in this case.
      But I also know, Davis is not a exotic shot type player like O'Sullivan is more capable of.
      I also know, that world champs don't get there by playing safe more than offensive ability. The best way to win, is to keep your opponent in the chair because the reality is, nothing is really safe.
      How many times have you walked back to your chair thinking you locked somebody up and they kick and not only hit it but get lucky and make it?
      Even if Davis won the match, I would still argue my point. But like I said, upon further thinking, maybe it's not possible with snooker balls in that particular shot relationship.
      Even when jacking up, the white is so much lighter than a pool ball, the white gets airborne and doesn't transfer enough speed to the red unless hit miracle perfect. I don't know for sure.
      If it does in fact require a miracle, then Davis was correct playing safe instead.

    Davis in the 80s was so dominate that he would regularly not let his early tournament opponents win a single frame. And if they did win one, it was because of a fluke. Davis was a class above all other players, even the handful who could compete in a match against him.

      Davis' best performance in WCs was his final win in '89 when in the final he utterly destroyed John Parrot 18-3, the heaviest defeat in a WC final. JP's head was spinning the entire match as Steve gave him virtually no shots to play for the almost the whole match. 1 year later and Davis started playing about as well as Willie Thorn.

    Could someone please explain something for me. I normally play 8 ball and occasionally 9 ball. What puzzles me when I watch snooker is why when you have balls lined up along the rail, like they did in this first game, do they always seem to leave them until the very last to try and clean up? I would have started to clean those off as soon as there was a shot there and left something else in the open until later.

    • @jordanmcneil01
      @jordanmcneil01 Před 4 lety +1

      Scooter Tramp the reason is because the pockets are cut differently. Pool pockets are cut concave snooker convex. If you were to try and shoot the ball down the rail on a snooker table you’d almost never make it. I could explain further. I played pool for years and thought the same thing. Now I’ve switched to snooker and I know why. Their damn near impossible you can’t cheat the pocket at all.
