As an Irish man who lives in Canada and plays pool at the local pool hall from time to time (Im 42), I can tell you that north Americans have no clue how hard snooker is. I played snooker as a kid at "Cues" in Clondalkin in Dublin and played a few frames against Ken and Joe back in the late 90s. I have a high break of 87 from when i was 19 and never came close to being that good ever again. I p[played a lot of pool for money over the years and always told people that never played it, that snooker was almost impossible and ridiculously hard to play. The TV does absolutely no justice whatsoever to the size of the table and tiny size of the pockets. Even world class level pool players (9-ball) would struggle to get a 40+ brake in snooker. So....... to see Ronnie do that, with the ease and speed and confidence is something I don't think many people can understand. What he did there was something only one person in the whole world can do. HIM

From memory, snooker tables are 12ft by 6ft. American pool tables are 9ft by 6ft. I could be a bit off. The main reason why snooker is so much harder is the balls are smaller and the pockets are tiny.

The beauty of O'Sullivan is that the vast majority of his shots are relatively easy, and its easy to think you could make most of them. The reality is, you can't, getting the cue ball where it needs to be time and time again to make those shots easy is unbelievably hard, and thats his genius. To be fair that's how a lot of people look facing a legend, especially when he shows you exactly why you can't measure up. At the highest level in any sport every player has to fundamentally believe that given a series of games they will win more than anyone else. Seems arrogant and maybe that's part of it but without that certainty in your skill you can second guess yourself when everything is on the line and then you're done. Imagine believing that hard in yourself and being among the best in the world and Ronnie just coming in and working you over like you're new here. All that dedication and hard work and here's a guy that is better than you even out of his prime...some of the most promising future greats never recover and fade into the background. Watch some videos on how much better Michael Jordan was from the perspective of the greats of basketball for instance. Ronnie is one of those guys who are just better.

This is why Ronnie is the GOAT. Not just because he's won more than everyone else, it's the magical moments he's produced that nobody else can, and he's been doing to for over 30 years and still going strong. This maximum that he called after the first black, the fastest ever maximum, winning a triple crown event at 17, being the first to reach 1000 centuries, having more centuries and maximums than anyone else, being the first top player to effectively use his weaker hand regularly, turning up to a world championship and winning it despite not playing in any other event all season, etc. Who else could have done all this but Ronnie? 🙂

That’s why you see him, not want to hit the last black until the ref says something to him. Incredible. That shot that went into the far corner and between the green and brown to come back with perfect placement for his next shot... probably the best shot ive ever seen. Because he meant every part of it.

This man is a legend and has the most insane controversies in sport. From trying to play without his shoes cause they were too tight to having his shirt slightly untucked. The "bad boy" of snooker for sure.
