- This would be one of O'Sullivan's immortal games in chess terms as it was one of the most memorable and exciting finals. Great performance, turnarounds, enormous pressure, and dramatic moments in the final frames are present in this match. In addition, two of the best commentators and an excellent audience make this match even more vibrant.
The frames featured here are also featured in the "Ronnie O'Sullivan | Counter Attacks at the 2018 Champion of Champions" video. Image and audio quality has been improved, as well as editing work. This version includes an introductory quote, statistics, supplemental information, and additional shots.
The old version is still available (it also includes two frame endings played in previous rounds).
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

It’s really nice of them to hold an entire tournament to determine who gets to play Ronnie.
This comment made me burst out laughing 😂
Excellent observation. Too bad some are not quick enough to see it. Never mind, that's their loss.
He's the GOAT
Best youtube comment ever. 👌
@@cwest394 😊
"I got lucky there, He should have won" I think these words are just enough. What a legend he is!
exactly 😎
humble and funny: "glad you enjoyed it (the drama at the last two frames) cause i didnt"
He then goes and puts his middle finger up whilst holding the trophy😂😂classic ROS
Everytime I see this match, the first shot shown gets me. Kyren puts the black safe in a somewhat negative (imo) shot, and Ronnie *immediately* opens up the black. Such a flex.
and he brought the pink back in play on the next shot. Would've been epic if he stole that frame.
It's outrageous, my jaw literally dropped for like 10 seconds when seeing it for the first time.
Quite new to snooker, but why is the safety "negative"? Seems at least a reasonably good shot which was just outshined by the opponent's incredible reply.
Or does negative mean something specific in this context?
Again, newbie here and am aware I have little experience to disagree, just wanting to learn more.
Yes I remember that shot when I saw it I really liked it
In my opinion, he could've used the black to cover the red over the pocket by playing a drag shot towards bottom cushion
Came to see Ronnie’s amazing play, but got amazed by Hendry’s spot on commentary
Hendry sees stuff the other guys don't, always amazes me
Best snooker commentator of all time, for me. No nonsense about him. One of the best snooker brains in the history of the sport. Just calls things as he sees them and he sees things most players miss. Has the voice for it to top all that.
Especially when it is Ronnie playing, Hendry's quick and precise game analysis with Ronnie's scary accuracy and control make it a treat!
@@vinaygr28 yeah Hendry sees shots the other guys don't which shows a part of why he's a GOAT and legend
Hendry and Virgo are my favourite
21:31 did nobody else notice Ronnie flipping the middle finger to the media when he lifted the trophy??? Legend.
I came here to make the same comment! Gotta love it!
Legend
He will be questioned perhaps...hope not.
That's the first thing I noticed at the end. Oh, Ronnie. LOL!
Why would he do that ?
Just re-read the blurb on this vid: "Two of the best commentators.." - I fully agree! Clive Everton was 82 when this was broadcast - was always my favourite on BBC over the years, shame that the BBC saw fit to let him go, true to UK TV politics tho ITV picked him up. No sensationalism from him, no punchlines, always addressed players by their surname (which came across as him being fair to all players, which he was), read the game well, made plenty of psychological interjections in his commentary that made it more real for us viewers. And yeah, Hendry is a class act to whatever he turns his hand to...
Well stated.
But, let's face it, the guy was 82 years old.
He's not that many years left, sadly.
We tend to forget these are people with lives and families of their own.
Did the BBC let him go, or did he simply wish to retire?
@@richarddarlington1139 From: www.theguardian.com/sport/2009/jan/10/snooker-clive-everton
For the first time in 30 years Clive Everton will not be there, having been demoted as part of an overhaul in the way the corporation covers the sport.
"After 30 years' service, I thought this was a bit thick."
^ Is an interesting article...
These last few games of their match involved a lot of bad luck by Kyren, and good luck by Ronnie. To me, Ronnie's Immortal Game is his 146 -- it just shows his total command of the table. He KNEW, on shot two or three, that he could clear them all. And he didn't...just to make a point. That is the most immortal thing Ronnie has ever done, and ever will do on a snooker table.
Define luck.
Nah. Losing 5 or 6 -1 and making a 147 in the frame he won much more Ronnie.
Nothing beats the maxi in 5 minutes 20 seconds. Up there for me in top 10 greatest sporting moments.
@@justicecase19 Agreed, that truly shows, for all to see, his absolute mastery of this game.
I think the immortal moment of ronnie is when he asks about the price for a 147 after just potting the first red and then makes a 147. The level of confidence.
It takes a genius to understand a genius and Hendry is always sublime in the commentary box. My heart was in my mouth when i was watching this live. Btw we have a great in the making in Kyren and i also see a great future for Lisowski.
kyren will never be a great, soz. he's over 30 and has won like 4 titles
@@stanleyharrison7031 Mate looked at when he started playing the pros. Ronnie started when he was in his teens, same with Hendry but Kyren turned pro in 2010 lost and left to be a bartender and then got his pro card back in 2013 and started climbing up the ranks and has 4 titles in just a few yrs of high lvl play. He got a late start but he's a great player not comparing him to the likes of Ronnie or Selby but still.
I love watching these guys play and it still amazes me to this day that we can go to nine frame draw and play one frame and sometimes it comes down to a black ball that’s just brilliant with them fighting right to the end
Ronnie just reads the game better than any other player.
Well that, and he's got the smoothest cue-work ever.
And then when he hits the zone with it.
He can land cue anywhere to the dot it’s insane
This channel is a godsend for snooker enthusiasts. Thank you sir for all the effort.
Just keep doing what you're doing, Cesar. Don't change a thing.
Amoo ! a Ronnie O'sullivan ,noo solo por su extremada calidad como jugador de snooker ,sino por su talante y actitud al competir... ✊🏻 saludos desde España ,gracias
I watched the whole match, in bits earlier this year and what a final.
That last shot on the pink to land on the black was sublime 👌
Did anyone see he showd the middle finger at the end while lifting that teophy ??? 😂😂👌🏻👌🏻 what a character he is ! legend !
I noticed it. Then I noticed your comment. Why would he do that? He seemed gracious during the interview, so why would he act so rudely here?

"I was lucky today". What a guy? Tremendous player and a respectful one!
lol, aside from flipping the bird while holding the trophy at 21:32.
Talking about birds who is that Hottie at 21:22: right behind Ronnie?
Was he really flipping the bird ? I'm not so sure even though a couple of you's have mentioned it
@@smart_ass5630 that's my EX pal but ur welcome to her
Amazing player Ronnie, not least the way he switches between playing shots right and left handed effortlessly. You almost don't even notice. Unique.
You the man. Superb edits all along. Thank you for that!
Absolutely sublime from Ronnie O'Sullivan ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Really enjoying your videos with the extra subtitles... very informative, thanks.
"i was lucky today"....well....to play that ball at 15:17 knowing that this is the last frame..it stands 9 (19) 9 for Christ sake....you need to have a lot besides luck to put that red in the pocket. Respect to both though and lucky those who did watch this match live. Thank you Ronnie and Kyren. 👏👏👏
Super red & so well cued
I remember this one vividly. It almost gave me a heart attack. 💔
Lol I know me too ✋
O'Sullivan é fantástico.
16:11 he goes beast mode. When the Rocket gets in the flow nothing can stop him.
So glad he admitted he got lucky. That middle finger sure was a punch tho🤣🤣🤣
Ronnie's control of the cue ball is out of this world.
Best control after Gilbert
@@MrPek-fe9fp Some don't have Gilbert in the top 10.
7 times world champion Hendry commentating , he speaks from experience !
Seen many vids with O'Sullivan dominating, but you really see what someone is made of, when they are behind the 8 ball (so to speak). This one demonstrated he's more than a dominant player, he's a solid player in any situation. If this guy jumped to 9 ball, He'd destroy the competition
He's actually played in 9-ball tournaments and in the Mosconi Cup
Splendid effort. Just noticed how Ronnie drops his head on the backswing...might try that!
The commentary is understandable that O'Sullivan "Gave way to frustration like he did when he was younger", and it may be right, or there may be a deeper reason for his seemingly wild shot. There is a 'mystery' involved in sudden changes of behavior, which may fulfill a 'need' in brilliant people, and his wild shot may have been perfectly sensible (as it turned out to be) and was in fact a kind of bravery. Bravery is a very strange thing. John.
Fortune really vomitted in Kyren's breakfast cereal in this match.
Weird thing to say. How do you know he had cereal for breakfast?
That's sick.
Yeah, he definitely ate all the big chunks that morning. I think he said, "Hey, those aren't marshmallows!".
😂😂🤣🤣🤣
It's neither, clever, funny or in good taste.
0:58 did Ronny just fart?
Lmaaaoooooooo how did you see that
Still unbelievable even though I watched many times
❤ I just love it two of the best on the table and only one could win they are both excellent players all you have to do is leave one shot or Ronnie O'Sullivan and he will clear the table
Im glad you enjoyed it because I didn’t. I was lucky today, he should have won but i got away with that cross double.
This is the sportsman i admire. The maturity he shows even in flukes, the way he responds to camera, the subtleness all these complement to the magical genius of him as a snooker player.
There will never be another Ronnie O'Sullivan the best he's ever been
Hope Ronnie keeps playing on. He's amazing 👏
Nicely compacted.
I was here.. watching it live.. what a match.
Excellent editing & captions
thank you
I like when commentators offer you some insights into the nuances of the game, instead of ⚽ when they just talk bollocks.
...and a massive thank you to the commentators.
It's all about where you put the cue ball after striking a shot and the skill level involved in that is just insane.
Legendary
Yeeeah Ronnie.....Amazing Player Legend
At 13:58, the amount of drama is astounding.
I found myself whispering to myself, “C’mon, get him, Ronnie” while I held my phone on the toilet for nearly 30 minutes.
when ronnie snookered behind the pink in the 18th was pure luck and he knew it. But great players get luck too and make the most of it. loved this thanks.
This guy is a legend !
Player of the Century.
What a man.... His answer? I was Lucky. Thanks for Share
👍 Merci pour la vidéo
I'll probably never get tired of watching this match. It proves that even 2 super heroes can have a bad day, but more importantly, it proves that your mistakes don't define you, it's the way that you bounce back that defines you. Before Ronnie made that first pot of his last run, you could see his swagger had come back as he was approaching the table and it was obvious that it would be his name on the cup ...again.
That man O' Sullivan so good
Simplesmente o maior jogador do mundo de todos os tempos!
Enjoyed!!Cheers!!;-)!!
That last frame had a little bit of everything. Geez. Misses, snookers, fouls. Wow.
that mid-finger was not even subtle at the end.... LOL
Red into the middle, nudge the black out, who saw that coming. Best snooker shot i have seen in a long while. Ronnie so quick to see that.
I think the last frame fouls of Ronnie were deliberate 😂😂
I think he saw that it was close and thought, "Fuck it. I've already wasted enough time looking at this twice".
Was that a mid- finger at the end with the trophy? What a man this O’ Sullivan
I think so..
That was definitely the finger...Cocky but you got to love him lol
OK, perhaps he did , , cocky so & so , , he doesn't care
Down 65, pots a red and a black, 'what a clearance this would be'. Thats how you know Ronnie is a legend
Absolute genius
Wao love to hear that I was lucky today he should have won.
Said by world most powerful player roonnie
You can never tell if O'Sullivan has won or lost as his face is usually tripping him...
Roonie O'Sullivan sir is my inspiration 🙏
What do u play? 3 patti?
Ronnie showed great respect to Kyren at the end by NOT shooting left handed on the final shot !! The billiard god !
What a game 😎
Henry....has such respect for ronnie.....what a sportsman
Champ for a reason 👑
Love listening to Hendry on Ronnie
Wilson's a young lad, he'll learn and come back stronger!!!
he's not that young anymore and cannot use the excuse of immaturity any longer.
Nope!
He looks young but he is not
@@jayantmahajan123 ah, my error. I didn't check actually! Cheers for letting me know
I love snooker because it brings us together.
So much spaghetti on the last frame. That was tense. Commentary was spot on.
Ronnie is amazing
14.29 foul made by Ronnie... IMHO, was a simple "return" (with no consequences due to the balls layout at the moment) to the previous unlucky foul by Wilson (red into the pocket)...😉👼
Love Ronnie's finger gesture at the very end : )
I love you Ronnie
Ronnie (consciously or subconsciously) misses on purpose when he feels the snooker gods have been too good to him. I’ve noticed this pattern of behavior over dozens of matches that I’ve seen him pinch from other players. The waist coat jacket foul? The shot on the red to the corner pocket just before that?
I completely agree. He likes winning on merit, and merit alone. He's more or less obvious about it in some games. It seems more plausible to me that he checked to see whether he could make the waistcoat touch the ball, which he did.
1:28 im no snooker player but ive seen alot of Ronnie and with the knowledge of needing those blacks to win that shot was just undeniable and frankly a gift to him even i could see that ( Pool player ) not to deny playing it that well isnt a feat on its own its just hes like a cheat-mode in a videogame, like that last Hidden-Boss after you've maxed every skill thats so overpowered you have to play to perfection to even stand a chance. the mental weight he exerts on other players is like playing with a handicap and you know if you miss anything or your safetyshots aren't covered enough hes just gonna run away with it and thats mental. the man has won like 75% of his professional games with his longevity and the dip he had around 2014-2015 if you count out the 'bad season(s)' hes been dominating for over 20 years... dont think ANY sport has had a let's say ''Dictator'' like this in the recorded history of professional sports. that last oppinion was without any research so if anyone knows for sure would love to hear it
This video was enjoyable entertainment. Thanks to all for making it.
Ronnie - love forever
The bag of dust commentary on legs , kills this classic
Ronnie is the Best, i live to watch his playing
GOD:
Bless u Ronnie,
U R A Great Player.
M. A. Khokhar.
Last 3 frames against Selby in world championships has to be his immortal!! No question
Kyren such a manufactured player the way he dances into his Stance ridiculous really.
20:43 - Pretty obvious who the Wilson fans are.
Kyren Wilson always looks devastated.
In my opinion I think that waistcoat foul was intentional, and if it was what a play, knew he or kyran couldn’t pot so draws a foul to gain his advantage. 200IQ
Agreed. He is so good at knowing, very quickly, the best "shot" to play. He drew refs attention to the possible clothing fault by taking a look himeself then almost seemed to hesitate when cueing up to strike the blue ball...... the ref needed to call foul before he played the shot, otherwise balls would have been left (there would not have been replacement as you get with the miss call). His reaction afterwards was not (in my opinion) consistent with one where his mistake is genuine...... I have seen him (on a different occasion) make an uncharacteristic miscue on the cue-ball where the foul also gave him the advantage .....
Pretty much, Ronnie said everything at the end.
Alex Higgins Was the man how is coke head Ronnie

Great champion 🏆 🥇!
What a general man u are
I am a huge Ronnie O'Sullivan fan, but at the same time. This young lad feels the sting and may not get a chance to play him for a while. The pain in his face when he misses his shot or the second guessing himself when he is unsure about risking a shot
Saw this live but cant remember it was this tense, probably cause i never gave Wilson a chance, haha! i dont know why, i just dont think he'll ever become a great player. Maybe he tries too hard to be a contender? There's something about him, examplified by the way he goes down to his shot, that doesn't give confidence...it's too artificlal, fabricated - in the end, it's just not credible. He should stop that 'engineered' way of playing and let it flow, maybe. i dunno. Much as i try to like him, i can't.
Thanks, great video!
You're welcome itnaklipse. Be patient with Kyren, he's still relatively young for today's snooker era :)
@@CesarMuroya Knocking on the door of 30! Maybe we wont ever seen 18 year old champions again but we (England) don't make em like we used too! I love Kyren, but this game along with many other he just bottles the key shots. If he had half the bottle of Higgins he'd have won many more titles.
I fully agree with you...there's something about this guy that gives off a "assholey" aura. Never liked the dude ,never did try to either.
@@smart_ass5630 Saw an interview he done and said he should play naked to get on the TV table. He has to put in the hard graft and win a few titles to be one of the elite players.Plonker
