- A google earth sea fishing challenge takes me to a place with some incredible views! A great opportunity to try catch fish from somewhere i've never fished before, and a great opportunity to get the new drone out for a play too. Based on the fact that there were a couple of other anglers here, I may have stumbled across a proper mark! I'll be the first to admit I don't know what i'm doing with this sort of thing, just a hope for the best sort of job! Got all my rigs and bait from Gerry's in morecambe, a real sea anglers paradise in there. Would highly recommend checking it out if like me, you want to have a crack sea fishing but need some advice on rigs etc.

I wouldn't fish with anything less than my Hyper-Macro Turbo Beach Abominator ultra-rod and my trinary-geared spatially gimbaled Piscatorial Dominator reel.
Someone told me that the rod and reel's expensive and flashy colour combo attracts the fish better.
Using google earth to find sea fishing marks is a good idea. Catching sea fish starts with four questions: what do I want to catch? What does it eat? Where do you find that food source? What time of day or night is the fish most active. For example, Plaice - they eat small marine worms (lug or rag) and pea mussels, you find those food sources on sandy bottoms, and they feed in daylight but come alive at dusk. So, for Plaice - fish a sandy bottom at dusk with lug or rag bait with green and black beads above the hook to immitate pea mussels. Do your homework like that and you're 90% of the way to catching your target before you leave home...

Great seeing you out Sea fishing again George! Change of tide really does help catch fish for sure! I always try go 2 hours before low and high tide and not all but most of the time produce great results đ
Itâs fun to mix things up every now and again thatâs for sure! And yeah high and low tide are always the best đ
Tip.
Do a recce at low tide before you fish. shoot some video to remind you of features' locations before committing to an outing. Bottom features will show where to try first, remembering that flow reverses with ebb/flood. Without prior knowledge you'll probably waste time on unproductive ground.

The bird you asked about is a curlew. They can expertly extract lugworm, shellfish and crabs from the sand .
Really? Genuine question as I thought Curlews were only in the northern UK in the summer?

For flatties I would use a 1up/1down with beads as an attractant, and a plain lead to allow the bait to move and find the gullies.
You can also pick up the rod every so often and give about 2 or 3 winds. This disturbs the seabed and flatties will come to investigate.
Don't strike 1st knock, let the bite build, as flatties will just sit on it before taking it.
I find ragworm tipped with squid a better bait, but that could be a regional thing.

Expert flatty advice! I have also heard about dogs 'treading' for flatties? I thought that was just banter/fishing folklore but seeing this one bury in the sand it could have been true?

Great place is New Barns Bay. Some quality Flounder in there and plenty Mullet in summer. Sometimes the deeper water is right under your nose. The Flatties also like the rocky areas like to your left and right. Sometimes just under the road tip but can be snaggy.

Have you tried using a flounder spoon with rag?? Twitch one of them slowly over ground and the flatfish will see it if they're there on the feed the often take ledgered baits as people reel in to change baits they go for the movement.
Iâve never tried it, definitely something thatâs on my agenda though! Iâll be having a go in summer for sure
A good idea whilst nothing is biting. Use a spinning rod with flounder spoon. You can get rather a few take a moving bait, whilst leaving static ones đ

My grandad used to go treading for flatties at arnside. my Dad used to catch a lot of flatties with a big ball weight and a trace behind it with bait, just reel in slowly as the weight puffed up the sand and attracted the flatties in. Good clip and keep up the mixed content.
I've just asked @ianturner3033 about a man with a dog going treading for flatties ....?! It was at Arnside! Did your grandad take a dog with him?
Got taken there as a kid about 10 i reckon with a friend and his Dad. He called it treading for Fluke, got a couple of flatties stood on a few and imediately lifted my foot off before i got the hang of it. Not seen anyone doing it when i have been again but there must have been a dozen doing at the same time. Must have been late 80s
Iâve always fancied having a go at treading, the quicksand puts me off though!

Wrong time of year George, try that spot again in Sep/Oct. Flounders depart the estuaries in Winter for spawning in deeper water, enjoyed the video.

That worm and mackerel bait set up looked tastier than some of my efforts at canapĂ©s đGreat video love seeing you out sea fishing đđ» but be careful of those quicksands, hidden channels and fast tides...looks pretty but that estuary is potentially lethal...drone footage of the bore coming in would be ace!

Only ever fished there once, had to leg it up the beach when the bore came in.

@@alison8526 Search for Arnside bore on CZcams. Its not big (about a foot or two high) but fills the entire estuary very quickly. You hear it before you see it. Once seen you never forget it.

I bet there are locations around that estuary that are phenomenal at the right time of year? I won't fish my own local estuary until at least May, and only on a spring tide. Then the bass and flatties go mental for the ragworm and shoals of sand eels.

I agree about it's not just the destination itself but alot is about the journey even if you blank you'll learn something about the area you fish. I know I commented 3 times now but I have to pause n comment otherwise I might forget lol but I love targeting flatfish although I'm yet to officially catch one, I kinda did when I set up a rod for a m8 who knew nothing so set up the rod put on a 2 up trace with red n black beads then baited and cast it out and after 30 minutes with no bites I told him to reel in and there was a plaice the size of a dinner plate came up then 2 minutes I hooked one after eratic bites reeled in and just as I was swinging it towards me over the pier railings it dropped off 30ft back down the pier into the water. Does either count as a catch for me? Lol đ đ€Ł

Tide can come in pretty quick here with an impressive bore at times. Even a couple of sirens go off when the tides coming in!
Tide only actually came in for about half an hour that far up the estuary on a small tide, thatâs when I had my fish though!

Those baits would be fine on the open beach where they would occur naturally, but up river you need red rag, mussel, clam, crab, possibly limpet, and you could do with some beads or attractors above the hooks. Flatties respond to disturbance so allow your baits to roll a bit and kick up sand. Looks like a great place to fish. You would be amazed how many flatties you can catch if you get it right. Did you find out what the other guy was using? Great video - look forward to the next one! âș
Good point! The other guy had his first fish on his last fresh lug, then was using frozen black like me afterwards
