    You still fished downstream, walk up the stream, then on way back hit those fast water pools for a second chance. The fish can see you the way you’re approaching. Good luck Mate!

    This reminds me I used to freeline Lobworms sometimes a split shot or two added, fishing through such water in Northumberland, and I’ve had 4lb brownies appear from nowhere. Just drifting runs and tiny twitches did the job, it was a deadly method. You should try it as an experiment to see what’s hiding in there. If you can break yourself away from the lure of course.

I felt bad because it injured its self flopping about on the tarmac anyways didn’t go to waste. Descaled Filled with Mushooms garlic parsley Bit of a ginger. . Was a feast to feed4 people. Definitely walk upstream so you'll be less likely to spook trout that are holding in areas of current. But also cast up stream, not down steam as you keep doing as it's not a natural presentation, the trout expect prey to be flowing down towards them to pick off on the way past. That stream reminds me of the section of river my family owns in Scotland just down from a rather famous Spey area distillery, that isn't fished either.Similar sized little browns with the odd 750g specimen. My farm's small river in the Tablelands of NSW produces much larger trout overall, all averaging 750g-3kg and occasionally larger again.

    What a lovely little stream to fish. You didn't seem to follow the "fish upstream" advice too closely though . The reason it's often more successful is that trout most of the time will face upstream especially if there's a hatch of flies on . Casting from behind them ,if you're not too close , will mean that you are practically in their blind spot. Do give it a try.

    Most likely an invasive signal crayfish, can get big, 15cm+ real pain as mot many of our fish can eat them and they eat everything, including fish spawn. Luckily the comeback of otters is helping in many rivers, they get them down in number relatively quickly compared to human methods

      @danhall3200 Před měsícem +1

      Unfortunately, I don't think it's a native but i could be wrong. I'm definitely no expert. Why I think it is a couple of things.
      Although washed out of colour since it died, it does look like the underside of the claws were red, which is the signal giveaway. The claws also look quite big in relation to the body size. Our natives have longer thinner claws, quite dianty looking compared to a signal. These look shorter, more rounded, and stronger than a white clawed. I would really love to be wrong tho, be gutting to know they've even reached remote areas

      it's very hard to tell with washed-out colours and from only underneath.

    you should try some 1 or 2in insect imitations or even Japanese ajing lures (if you can find them) we use them in Australia, they are very versatile but perfect for these tiny streams. i personally like to use magbite vacuum ring ajing worms, the trout and perch just cannot resist them

    Hi George, can you tell me the casting weights of that rod you're using, please? Many thanks and great video love the content as I'm obsessed with catching wild trout in wild places, it doesn't get better. If you ever find yourself in the Scottish highlands give me a shout I'll help you out with some advice. The rewards are huge up here for those willing to put a few miles on their boots. Was always a fly fisherman but due to a shoulder injury I've started spinning on light gear and I absolutely love it. Keep up the good work mate 👍

    Nice video and good place to explore. Just ordered a fishrig180 actually for trout and perch etc going to be using it with some light braid to fluerocarbon on, how do you usually attach your leader to the braid ? Any particular knot or a tiny swivel ? I tried fishing upstream the other day with some mepps spinners and did quite well to be fair. However I am no expert I just enjoy being out fishing. I find I usually catch trout in fast shallow runs with my spinner. I used a blue fox single hook spinner which was great but definitely not as good as a treble for hooking up but I liked how easy unhooking the fish was. I also bought a salmo sinking minnow and floating bullhead the other day. I fished downstream in some deep slack waters on my local river which I’m a member of the club but I blanked. Have you got any advice ? I want to fish more rivers too. Don’t get me wrong the Calder that I fish is nice but I want to explore more rivers. I am going to join another club I think. How do you go about finding out whether a stretch of river is okay to fish or not ? The last thing I wanna do is get my tackle confiscated. I know a few day ticket waters near me but it’s a big wide river the ribble but I want to fish more streams like this video. Thanks mate

  • @cedhome7945
    @cedhome7945 Před měsícem +1

    Great to see you catch but a word of warning to anyone spinning please check with the club / landowners first as this method is often regarded as a poacher tactic and having to explain to some large angry bailiff or club members what you are doing can land you in very hot water
