BIG Trout Live In The Middle of This City! They Eat Ducks!

- This session I went out in search of BIG urban wild brown trout! I fished an area where the river runs underneath the city. I knew If I wanted to have the best chance at catching one of these urban beasts I'd have to "match the hatch" and use a lure similar to what they're eating. For that reason I opted for a "duck" imitation bait and i was surprised at the result!

If you fish with baits that are intended for the surface, then you can usually see the bite. One mistake that many anglers make is that they hit too early. Wait until you feel the pressure of the fish on the rod and then hit, otherwise you will lose the fish. I also had to learn this first, some pikes escaped me in the past because I hit too early.
I quickly learned that too!😂
Couldn’t have said it better it’s a school boy error.
It’s going to be addicting once you start catching fish
Hi Chris (and all others wanting to use singles). One way to improve your hook-up rate a bit is to have the rear single with the tip pointing back forwards over the back of the lure, not hanging down beneath it. And you can use a single that is a size larger than the original treble. Tight lines Mates!
I'm going to try that, thanks.
How do you have it back forwards?
@@boyinthecorner-666hurting my brain trying to figure that out too!
@@boyinthecorner-666when you look at the lure side on. The rear single should be curving upwards with the barb/point toward the lures back.
What I've found over the last few seasons lure fishing for trout is that you get a better hook up rate with the rear single pointing down. I found that to be because the bottom jaw of the trout has more areas where the hook can catch as opposed to top of the trouts mouth which is pretty solid.
Nice to see it’s not just me fishing over tyres and trollies 🛒 😂
Great to see more people using barbless singles with trout👍
Great video .
Big urban browns are the stuff of my dreams . I love fishing the pretty country spots ,but catching big trout in the city that others overlook has always intrigued me . Tks
Out here in California we have an awesome urban creek that has steelhead and rainbow trout and I'm sure small mouth bass. It runs right under downtown. Literally manyany streets are built over it. No fishing allowed though. The area is covered in needles and stuff anyways because it's also full of homeless encampments but darn it would be great fishing. Not as pretty though.
I just noticed your CZcams channel about a week ago and i have subscribed to your channel and its so nice to watch a person fishing who loves what hes doing and doing with the environment and they way the fish are treated, well done Ginger fisherman you got me hooked, looking forward to seeing more, cheers from Canada
Great video.
I have been catching urban trout for 45 years and during the years I have gotten many strange looks walking in the streets with my fishing gear and some even suggested that I lacked a few marbles seeing me fishing in urban settings.
Me laughing inside knowing how clueless they were about all the trout swimming in these usually unfished settings.
I have also fly fished some places.
I have even caught sea trout and smaller salmon in urban rivers that no others seemed to know they swam and spawned in these rivers.
And often the fish are much easier to catch in these settings as they almost never encounter artificial lures.
I highly recommend people that live in an urban area with a river to not disregard what might swim in that river as that might give them great fishing opportunities much closer to home.
I highly recommend that you try floating mouse lures in a setting like this.
I have caught lots of trout and many big ones, including a 6+ pound on them,
And they work very well, no matter where you fish for brown trout.
In city streams/rivers, other rivers and lakes of all sizes, including up in the mountains.
And it is extremely exiting to experience when the trout come up and take the lure.
At times they hit the lure like we can see white sharks attack seals or seal decoys where the entire body of a 4-5 pound trout can be above the surface.
It is extremely addictive to fish with these lures when the trout are in the mood for a big bite of "food" swimming on the surface.
Try it out and film it and you might catch some spectacular moments to show your subscribers.
And I am sure you will experience something that you will find VERY addictive.
These mouse and rat lures can also be VERY effective on pikes and I have also caught large Perch, Chub and Ide on them.
@@The_Judge300 Nice!
Clean water. No rubbish. I am impressed.
Did you see the tires? If you are from over there you call them tyres.
Ibe caught thousands of wild brownies over the years. I dont think people realise the quality of the fish hes catching in this video. There are just a small handful of rivers in wales that produce browns of this size consistently! Theres nothing like it! The only comparison for me is sewin or salmon. Sewin (sea trout) being my ultimate favourite to catch. They are amazing eating too but these days they all go back which is a good feeling in itself!
Love you vids Sea trout fishing late at night 10pm onwards. No better feeling than a crazy ST dancing across a calm pool in the moonlight
Before long your collecting feathers and wine corks, tying flies and making memories
Agreed. The elusive sewin are the pinnacle for me. After dark on the fly or the worm is unbeatable!!!! Everything is deathly quiet, calm....the odd fish jumping with a big splash catches u off guard but signals that THEIR THERE! All of a sudden BANG your in and it's a right whopper.....oh the joy. Shine the torch in the net to reveal a solid bar of Welsh silver. Perfection! 🎣
Nice work on the single hooks for trout. Great vid (it chimes with my day job for the Wild Trout Trust and their "Trout in the Town" project). Paul.
Never caught a fish in my life but i will be buying my first fishing rod next week in the hopes of changing that
I started about 18 months ago after being a golfer for 40 plus years. I wish I'd started 40 years ago, best of luck it's a great community, make new friends every time you hit the bank.
You'll soon be hooked yourself 😁
Try pole fishing first mate
and get the right licence
Get a nice 7-8ft rod with a decent action (decent flex in the top 2ft or so) fish with anglia long mepps (silver no2) or a black fury mepps no2....black with YELLOW spots and u will be smashing trout in no time. Remember to use a light line. 4-5lb being the best bet. Maxima chameleon 4lb is great for trout fishing. Ibe used it myself for over 25+ years. There are braid options too but maxima is just as good as anything imho. Tight lines.
P.s stay away from those crap cheap spinners. Stick with Mepps and u can't go wrong. The genuine ones are made in France and are sold in any good fishing shop or online. A good pack to start is the Mepps trout kit which offers 6 great little spinners that will ALL catch fish and u get a black fury in with that bunch. Ive hit hundreds on the black fury alone!!!!
Great viewing: fantastic fish, excellent commentary and cool relaxing music 👌🏻
You definitely need a bigger version of that duck lure to go after Pike, Chris. 🦆
Yoo 👋 im a needham 2 lol
@@pauls-trade Cool!
Don’t you worry about pollution in those urban rivers, let alone that they have been eating rats. I wouldn’t ear them
I just love to watch your stuf! I’m a angler myself from the Netherlands. I’ve you are ever in te neighbourhood of Arnhem, come by and lets fish! Would be a dream! I’ll come to the UK for that either…
This was so much fun to watch, and for me here in Tennessee, very interesting water.
What a fantastic little river, despite the odd bits of junk tossed in there it must be relatively clean or the brownies wouldn’t be there. Those imitation lures are absolutely deadly though it would be exciting to try those wild brownies on a nymph or dry fly too.
Another great video! It is one of the best angling channels on YT, together with Tom, Sean and Carl and Alex who bailed out a bit from angling :)
Great video Lordy from Scotland 🐟🎣🏴🏴
that one with no audio was an absolute beast mate!
Greetings from Germany
I once fished an underground part of a canal in the middle of the village. It belongs to a small hydroelectric power plant.
5 brown trout were almost up to 70cm.😅
Visually, they were just as beautifully drawn as others
@@tombrunner8181 Nice!
Absolutely amazing fishing. Location filming and catch. Temu duck. I’m getting one. But we don’t have your kind of urban fishing. Loved it.
Well done for putting them back......I dont like the taste of trout...but I'm sure a lot of people fishing there, would take them👍🏻
Looks so fun! When I lose fish after hooking up like that I’ll size up the hook and when I sense the fish about to jump I’ll throw the rod tip down in the water to guide the fish back down. Beautiful catches and Tight lines
That was awesome!!! Imagine fishing out of the window of your house for trout !!!
Beautiful area! I love finding fish in surprising places! I really enjoyed experiencing it with you.
Stunning fish and superb footage
That was some epic urban trout fishing like I've never seen before.
We don't have many fish in our urban streams where I live and the ones that do are closed to fishing for no reason.
Fortunately though I do have the Pacific ocean and sharks to go after
@Mikkelltheimmortal Do you live in the peoples republic of california?
Great video. It just seems incredible that you can find big trout in a city in a relatively small stream.
Those fish are so aggressive. I watched one slashing through the water chasing minnows in the brook near me. Awesome to see.
Great video once again! Pete 🏴
Goodlord absolutley lovely fish, great to see them in such a location. Getting even one of them off the lochs I fish would be a day maker.
What an insane fishery......you must have a go again with a treble hook. Visited a French city in Normandië and looked down a bridge to see huge trout in the 4 lb range......and no one looking or fishing! Great show- thanks.
Amazing trouts, what's a Nice street fish. Thanks for this vidéo,smile from France
from one to another, well done ginge!!,your vids are absolutely addictive,i fish a really small stream/river near derbyshire, the native brownies luv it,and grow big!!!!!
Awesome video mate, some nice fish there. Your a good advertisement for temu 👍👍
Nice, if you’re ever in America the trout fishing is amazing ! I used to catch 6, 6 1/2 pound rainbows out of a creek near my hometown. Middle of America in Missouri.
Great fishing mate. Thanks for sharing, I do love a little bit a urban fishing.
5:53 Look at the colors on that arm, absolutely stunning 😉
Nice vid again, and those fish - unbelievable in an "urban" area!
BTW Love the quality of your vids.
Its been so cool watching your channel grow bro, youre part of my inspiration to finally start my own channel. Much appreciated bro 👍
Thanks buddy!
Nice video very entertaining Chris you certainly seem to be able to find interesting venues
Very cool vid with big trout! You should keep the rod tip low when you have the fish on so it doesnt jump and spit the hooks
Chris your one of the best anglers who are on CZcams with snaggedbros and fishingwithcarl
Best anglers? snagged bros? 😂
@@seanfraustus I guess they ain’t that good lol
Great video 🎣🎣🎣🎣
50 cm trout is amazing! I need to go trout fishing asap!
To put it simply, I really enjoyed that. Well done.
Fished that river as a kid in the late 1970s. It was a totally dead river in the city due to pollution, but you could catch small browns upstream in the suburbs behind houses. I was pretty much the only person who fished it
Were is it .
@@lauriemiller1690was thinking the same thing
@@lauriemiller1690 I don't think he is going to tell you.... Something tells me...
Another great video! Thanks Chris. As a consequence of your channel I’ve invested in some proper lure gear. Golly it’s a hell of a lot lighter to lug around than tubs of maggots and worms 😂
Cracking fish where probly no one ever goes briliant fishing as always . The wee duck thing proved its self lol 😊
👍🏴😁✌️
Great content as always Chris.
The ONLY downfall of using external audio is that you cant record a back up audio from the camera mics. how Gopro, dji, insta ect havent addressed this still to this day is pretty outstanding 😂
Great footage regardless
Loving the music mixed with the action shots tbh! I still havent mustered up the courage to wade that particular river yet. But as you know, big dutty trout live in little dutty rivers
😂
Get in there lad. There's absolutely nothing to stress about. Just use common sense and u will be fine! Those big browns are waiting for you. There's no time like the present!!!! Go get um. 🎣
@@taff6987 i love to wade in the rural rivers mate but that one might have a few unwanted surprises of the needle variety lurking about 😂
@JWhite-Fishing as long as u stick to the middle and ware waders u will be fine. No needle is penetrating a good wader boot. It will snap before it goes through. U will be fine!👍🏼
Hi Chris amazing fishing! Suggestion for one of your video is sink and draw dead bait using albert drachkovitch rig. Used a lot in France Mort Manie for pike. I have followed your channel for over two years and don't think you have used this technique yet. Also live bait for trout using minnows. Love all the videos!
I don’t necessarily think it’s the duck,I think it’s just anything that moves 😂
Fantastic TROUT, river and fishing action! I believe those big fish do eat ducklets, yet I highly doubt the duck lure simulates those birds from the trout point of view: the visual and the pulsations of the small webbed feet are missing. Whatever, it works!
Awesome video Chris!!! 🎣 ….Smithy
Love your videos mate, keep up the great work, you were the one that made me want to try out lure fishing and now it’s my favourite hobby, thank you chris ❤
Thats a big brown, amazing venue
Cracking fish Chris. Definitely my biggest inspo and also teacher, started a year ago all thanks to you and your channel! Would be an honour to catch a double in front of you someday :)
that's some great fishing. I wish I could back water wade fish here in South Florida. there's just way too many dangerous aquatic animals here to do it. From Alligators, American and Nile crocodiles, and huge Bull sharks in the brackish water canals of Miami and Broward county. NOPE ! No way. I was circled and harassed by a 10-12 foot Bull shark in my 14 ft. jon boat in the canals of Wilton manors Florida. just a half mile down the canal some people were rope swinging into the water. I warned them as I passed by heading for the boat ramp to get the heck out of the water that day. large mother Bull sharks give birth to young in these canals. they can stay in the area for quite sometime.
My biggest brown is 7 lbs. 7 oz. Caught in lake Erie. My biggest steelhead trout was 14 lbs. 4 oz. your more pretty trout after to come in the creeks up early kind of dark If you ever get a chance come give it a try I like the little creek. It looks like fun for fly fishing
Very good, some beautiful fish.
Ay up mi duck ! Great tutorial keep em coming ❤
I wasnt expecting that size lure for those fish
😅
Amazing you have those in a urban stream😀
And that looks like a really nice setup bc rod and reel 🤤 looks perchy to me😊
What a beautiful chalk stream, apart from the rubbish, tyres etc.. You're really lucky to have access to such hallowed places. That wasn't really a duck lure no mallard is that small the fish went for it just because it was something moving. You'd be better off with an imitation mouse.
Great content, those wild brown trout are in great shape, awesome
Beautiful browns, and great quality water.
That’s a serious catch of wild brownies Chris in those urban locations …well done with the Peeking Duck 🦆😂 would take quite a lot of natural flies for those trout to get the equivalent amount of protein🥩
Enjoyable video and some nice trout
Nice video, enjoyed it. As a non English speaker (Dutch) I thought you said you
catched a trout on a dog:)
As an english speaker in the usa, i thought the same thing
Awesome mate, I only lure for bass down around Plymouth but that was great. Good video skills too 👍😎
to have these trouts and pikes and rivers and everything around ur city is amazing. we dont have any flowing sweet water like this in the netherlands!
Awesome...and such a good stamp too...havent seen brownies that big in years especially...great vid :)
Match the hatch with an imitation duck lure! Superb.
Great video and catch!
ngl your editing in this video is the best yet.
Awesome fishing trip
Yay! I like your trout ones but they do make me very envious.
Just bought myself this same rod. 2-10g, first BFS setup. Looking forward to trying it out!
Great video, cheers.
Absolutely gorgeous fish!
Live the video, inspiring me to get out and explore!
Hey Chris, you should try some deer hair mouse flies in those urban areas for trout. Will get you a lot of big trout on the fly.
An undeniably fantastic video Chris thank you 🎣🐳👍🏼👊🏼🍻
Cracking video, great fishing👍
Cracking episode Chris some fantastic Trout
Brooks, rainbows,& cuts, never a BROWN. Hope to catch some someday 😂
Great footage and fish mate👍🏻
Simply wonderful stuff, love it!❤
wow......amazing. I'd love to go fishing with you 😅
Caught trout similar size in the Camac river in kimainham Dublin on bread.very difficult to get to and no one fishes it just behind Houston station at the old mill Mary's Lane.fair play mo cara all the best from eire
In NZ with have a mouse lure, for the same reason. 6lb is a good one here as well in most regions, head to Tekapo in South Island, and you are into double figures. But you can catch into double figures in most NZ regions.
Nice it’s the same river you keep returning too, that’s loaded. But huge shore vegetation, so without rubber leggings it’s impossible to fish🎉
Should do some fishing with spoons! old school lure challenge!
There’s a small, urban lake fed by a river where I live. A couple months ago I caught a 63.5 centimeter/25 inch brown trout. It was very surprising because most of the fish caught there are quite a bit smaller.
That’s unbelievable such great trout in a small dirty stream,
They would be excellent on the fly rod but very hard in that area..
U want a small 6ft fly rod on a weight 2 or 3 reel and line with the old bow and arrow cast. Extreme effective in small overgrown stream fishing. Imagine hooking a 53cm 3lb brown on a 6ft light fly setup😮😮bonkers sport.
@taff6987 Most likely you could roll cast as well.
See your dodging the poo bags just like stockport.
Urban fun keep up the good work 👏
Be like Celtic and keep your trebles on 😅
Tried urban fishing. Using peanuts for bait. Hooked up to a dreaded corn-eyed brown trout.
Great video and beautiful fish, I would say that you may be keeping the fish out of the water too long. Trout have an unexpectedly high mortality after catch, going up exponentially the longer out of the water. I’m sure you know what your doing but be careful
England best country in the world even the canal’s full of beautiful fish great video Chris
You can also catch Pike, Bass, and Catfish on duck and mice imitations.
