    Former device repair technician of 5 years here, the only way this could by better is if you soak it in a small bath of distilled or deionized water once it's powered down. This will remove the minerals from inside the phone. However, don't leave it in that water for long, as it will erode the screen adhesive if left in too long. Other than that, fantastic advice!

    • @derrickdaniels3955
      @derrickdaniels3955 Před rokem +4

      Couple questions do I soak the phone and the battery once removed? And how long do I soak it? Do I do this before or after the gel packets?

    • @kyliecowan3879
      @kyliecowan3879 Před rokem +1

      I'm aiming my question at laptops rather than phone, my phone is legitimately waterproof to the point it has an underwater camera and I regularly use it to read in the bath. But laptop 💻! I'm wary of even having my laptop in a steamy room. Would this work for something as large as a laptop? Mine is fairly high end after getting fed up with my old one so I tend to leave it in one place where it's safe, but I'd like to actually take it places rather than having it almost as a desktop computer instead of what it should be.

    • @danyalq7214
      @danyalq7214 Před rokem +3

      Is it really the minerals that damage your phone?

    • @duckmanjohnson9411
      @duckmanjohnson9411 Před rokem +1

      @derrickdaniels3955 you would soak it before to help dissolve the mineral deposits from the unclean water, ideally changing with fresh water a few times. Afterwards, place the charging port oriented down to allow gravity to help out, along with the drying agents of the gel packets

    • @duckmanjohnson9411
      @duckmanjohnson9411 Před rokem +1

      @danyalq7214 absolutely. Pure water is non-conductive. It's actually a pretty good insulator from electricity. The metal element minerals found inside of water are very conducive, being metals. This causes shorts across circuits, which is very dangerous for electronics. Distilled and de-ionized water have had these minerals removed, making them entirely electronic safe

    @lmitz Před rokem +635

    One important note: if you dropped your phone in a pool or the ocean anywhere but freshwater, you MUST rinse it with fresh water before doing this. If your phone is water resistant STILL RINSE IT.
    Chemicals used to keep pools clean and salt in salt water are corrosive and will eat away both at water resistant seals and at contact pads for charging. This means if you let them stay on there and dry the phone it can hurt your ability to charge, ruin water resistance in the future, or even make its way all the way into the phone.
    But the best tip of course is to always be careful with your phone around water. Even if it claims some water resistance you never know and it's better to be safe than sorry.

  • @everythingbagel1727
    @everythingbagel1727 Před rokem

    Just use isopropyl alcohol. It's quite an easy concept that what damages your phone is the minerals in the water. Isopropyl dissolves the minerals and dries quickly. If you dropped your phone in a water without minerals more than likely your phone will be fine. That's where this becomes a bit more practical. But, the best choice is isopropyl to prevent taking it to a repair shop and getting overcharged.

    Better yet, if your phone still has issues, best thing to do, is to just get a new phone, used to work at a repair shop, the only reason we fixed water damaged phones was to recover data, that was it, unless the customer understood that there would be no warranty, and that we could not guarantee that it would work after

    Silica gel is a very good adsorbent, so it adsorbs the water or humidity
    That's also the reason why it comes in many products

    Those silica gel packs can be recharged too. Toss em in the oven at like 175F for a few hours. Should be good as new!

    speed up the drying process by putting it somewhere warm. Silica absorbs humidity essentially so the faster it vaporizes, the faster you have a phone. (warm, not hot, right next to a computer/console works great.)

    I just put my phone in a microwave for 2 minutes. Completely dries out the phone and the heat is enough to jumpstart your phone if it's dead
