I only eat meat, fish, eggs, and some low carb dairy. I'm assuming you wouldn't use those for compost? Although I rarely have food waste eating this way, so even if you could compost it, it probably wouldn't even be worth the effort. In fact, my landlord provides a dumpster for the trailer park and I'm pretty sure stray cats eat the little bits of food that do get thrown away. One thing I have been doing, both for my own health and for the environment, is slowly making a collection of glass containers. We do reuse our current plastic containers, but they eventually end up in the landfill (no recycle program here), plus they're not good for storing food stuff in. I've been buying one or two at a time and eventually I'll have all glass containers.

I found I have to have DampRid or some other (non electric to save money) dehumidifier when I run mine. Otherwise it gets too humid which then makes it feel hotter. Swamp coolers can feel good at the moment but get you later.
