  • Today we take a short break from our travel vlogs and take you along as we give Big Betty a long awaited upgrade.... and by long awaited, we mean this should have been updated a year ago when we renovated Big Betty.
    This winter, our propane fueled heater has been acting up and blowing cold air. After Ryan's grandpa suggested an issue with the thermostat, we gave it a go!
    Turns out that was our issue and now we enjoy warm mornings before work in the RV!

    Thank you for the great video and the step by step instructions. Our 99 Winnebago Mini has almost the exact same thermostat, and the install was a breeze.

    Ours is a 2 wire/heat only as well so we went with the "plain jane" honeywell 1100 model. I see yours has AC/cool as well. You're all set if you ever decide to wire in or add AC.

    Super helpful guys!! I full time in a '89 Allegro and I am parked for the winter in Michigan. I went to do my thermostat install today and I notice that I have two blue wires(eek). well I am pretty mechanically inclined and also a decent diyer and figured it was simple 2 wire install like I have done before in a residence, but the blue wires threw me off.
    I found your video and see we have the exact same thermostats BOTH!! I had purchased mine on Amazon the week before. :) so your video was helpful. I clicked subscribe!

    Great video! I’ve been Contemplating upgrading our old thermostat solely for the reason of having greater temperature control as we get all kinds of fluctuations with our old thermostat. I’m thinking of getting one that’s digital and on the lower price range But yet I can still set a schedule to reduce our energy costs while we sleep or are away from the camper. Wish us luck 😂

    Nice install sir. Our rig has a newer thermostat so this hasn't been an issue for us, but i've thought about upgrading just to get additional features, but we'd be going from "really good" to "you can't tell the difference from the old one" good.

    Please don’t throw those old style mercury-containing thermostats in the regular trash. No bueno. Drop off at your local waste center as universal waste. 👍🏼

    I haven't even gotten into this video yet - - but I've subbed and liked!!
    I love the concept!
    WHEN are you going to get 'legal to visit Canada'?? I have a great spot for you to hang for a bit - in the middle of nowhere, with incredible vistas, within 20 minutes of the main mall of Kelowna BC, in the heart of the Okanagan Valley.
    From 44 C in the midst of the summer to minus 33 C (sorry - you'll have to convert to F), we see all manner of extremes here. I'm full-time in a Toyhauler, but it's stationary. I froze up plumbing lines (and PEX allows them to freeze/thaw without bursting) but right now, I've got a furnace problem.
    No biggie - - only minus 9 here and the electric heaters will keep me comfortable - until I can determine if I can tackle this on my own. Out here in BC (some say it stands for Bring Cash), a good RV mobile Tech is $150 per hour - - for travel time too!
    Nice intro. I'm in!

      @@RyanMegan your welcome I actually have one of their thermostats and I mainly got it for a unique feature which allows you to actually set it so it will automatically switch from heating to cooling to basically prevent the space from getting to cold or hot without having to readjust the temperature settings on the thermostat

    I was going to order this thermostat but I cancelled because in the product description is says for 240V. I have 12 V DC in my thermostat in my Rv. I am confused by this

  • @robertlee7899
    @robertlee7899 Před rokem +2

    Will that new thermostat you got work with the 12 volt system? The reason I ask is because I believe mine is 12 volt and I need to replace it and want to go digital, just want to make sure I buy the right one.

      I put a digital house thermostat in my 97 Aristocrat and have no problem. It works better than the piece of junk I was using.

      @robertlee7899 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@littlejon7884 Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I ended up buying a Honeywell RTH221B programmable digital thermostat I think it was $30 at Home Depot and it works amazing compared to the analog one I had. Already I've saved a bunch of money on propane because I have a working accurate thermostat. Definitely a must have upgrade if you have an RV with an analog thermostat.

    what is the lowest temperature you can set the thermostat to? I don't want the thermostat to turn on the furnace unless it gets below 28 degrees Fahrenheit at night. Hope the termp can be set that low. thanks and excellent video!

  • @kpxoda1
    @kpxoda1 Před 2 lety

    I hate to tell you this but I don't think that was what was causing your issue. I mean it's not a bad idea to replace that old one anyways. The thermostat doesn't have the ability to control those things separately. It just tells the furnace to go and stop, it can't really tell it to just run the fan without running on the gas. Obviously it can do this by manually turning on the fan switch if you have one but not with the actual temperature control. It may have fixed itself or your problem is intermittent and it's working fine now.

    Thanks for the video Ryan. I have a GE thermostat in my Little Guy Mini Max that I want to replace with the Hegstad. It controls heat and a/c and It has 3 wires. The connectors inside are marked gnd, comms, +12v. Any idea how they connect to the new Heagstat H705 thermostat which is marked (C O B W Y G RC RH/R)
