Soon to be papa here and researching to find out what hardships my wife may experience so I can hopefully be more helpful to her. Found this video so helpful, thank you!
You’re awesome, Steven!
Such a great man Steven. Congratulations on being a dad.
Wow! What a great husband you are! Good for you ❤️👏 she’s lucky to have you 👍
This is too cute Steven. Love this for you
💜
Some tips I’ve learned along the way: I’m a mom of four girls and these are my postpartum tips…. Since I’m going through the newborn days right now with a one week old, the tips are ever clear in my mind.
1. Give yourself lots of extra grace -- you just brought a tiny human into the world 🌎 🌹
2. It is A-OK to let even immediate family know that you don’t want visitors for the first few days or weeks when arriving home from the hospital 🏥- you just birthed a baby and you shouldn’t have to entertain people in your own house 🏠-- unless you just want to. But remember it’s perfectly ok to ask friends and family to wait until you get settled in at home before asking them to come over and see baby. My last baby was born a week ago and I’m just now sort of ok with visitors.
3. It is A-OK to let someone else take care of ALL the housework in those first few days/weeks after delivery… especially if you’re breastfeeding. Remember you won’t be able to do it all, just focus on taking care of yourself and your baby and delegate care for other children and housework/errands to your partner or family or friends. Your body needs plenty of rest even if It’s you’re not breastfeeding your baby.
4. DO NOT PUT YOUR NEEDS LAST… it can lead to feelings of sadness and mild postpartum depression. Take that shower 🚿 you desperately need & deserve -- so you fell Ike a human one again. (works wonders for engorgement for those breastfeeding mommas) Dry and style your hair at least once a week and put on makeup even if you’re not going anywhere. It will make you feel like an attractive human again & not just a dairy cow 🐄 (for those breastfeeding mommas). Seriously, take time for yourself…. If your baby is crying and you need to eat, EAT, then care for baby. It won’t hurt baby to wait even just a few minutes when you need sanity or some food in your belly.
5. Rest when you can. Period. If you have the chance to rest and you’re tired, REST. Don’t try to work on housework or your to do list, just listen 👂 to your body and get the rest that your body needs.
I just found out I am pregnant. My first pregnancy ever and I am 5 weeks along. Thank you so much you have made me feel so OK 😂
Wanted to share a tip here for anyone expecting a baby that worked great for us (our pediatrician shared this suggestion). Instead of using baby wipes, get several sleeves of the cotton rounds, like the pads you use to wipe off makeup. Dip the small round pad into some water and use that to clean baby’s bottom. Our little guy literally NEVER got diaper rash. I feel like even the 99% water based wipes still have preservatives in them and can irritate baby’s skin. Those little cotton rounds were also just the perfect size for wiping a tiny bottom! Anyway, just wanted to share this tip because it worked great for us.
Congrats on baby! A tip I saw from another mom with the Hakka is if it doesn’t have the suction at the bottom is to have a mug near you and put it in the mug when done with it. For me it was a lifesaver. Thought I’d share for other moms out there.
Thanks! Just saved me from buying the one with the base
Saw this too and thought it was so smart!
No more crying over spilt milk!😉
Thanks for the tip!!! Do you use this when your baby is nursing? I’m one week postpartum and I haven’t started using the Hakka pump yet. It’s been a LONG WEEK.
@@bethanytherrell7799 Yes, get a hair tie and tie it to your bra strap so that it can hold the Hakka in place and place it on the opposite boob while she feeds to catch the let down - you have to squeeze the Hakka to have the suction effect to
Help catch all the let down.
Yes I've spilled milk.too many times thanks
33 weeks pregnant and preparing for labor & delivery of my first baby. Just wanted to say thank you for your vulnerability and honesty ❤️
Coconut 💧 water will be your friend to keep up your breastmilk
Firm believer that there needs to be more discussion around postpartum recovery. It was SO ROUGH and I would've handled it so much better if i knew more of what to expect. And I asked all my friends for information while I was pregnant!
Yes definitely it’s not talked about enough at all! It’s all about cute baby pictures and then we talk about baby and forget mom and her healing
No freakin' kidding! I had my first baby 34 years ago, and we didn't have any CZcams videos, classes (only a class in labor), products to make things easier, and my mother couldn't remember much for some reason. It was frankly one of the hardest weeks of my life, and no one had even warned me it would be hard! Now my daughter is pregnant, and I'm getting her EVERYTHING I didn't have. I know it will be ROUGH, but I think she still has no idea. Thank you for your honesty. It would have helped me tremendously if I had even had a clue what was going to happen.
I'm 6 weeks postpartum and advice to first time mommas who plan to breastfeed--see lactation as much as you possibly can in the hospital! It's covered under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) through insurance while you're admitted in as inpatient with the hospital until you're discharged and if you need support after discharge, just make sure your provider (PCP, OBGYN, or child's Pediatrician) submit pre-auth for lactation. Don't be afraid to call your insurance to see which providers and what exactly is covered. And take ALL the supplies you can from the hospital. I didn't have to spend a dime on postpartum care (except for additional sanitary pads).
This beautiful and educated couple's videos have been an integral part of my and my husband's journey to parenthood. Thank you, Doctors Bjorkman!
Thank you for this!
You gave birth to your baby a week ago and you're already recording a video to post CZcams? You are a wonder woman! Also, thank you for this wonderful OB/GYN/New Mom perspective on postnatal care. :)
You're an OBGYN that's on the other side of mommyhood. How cool is that. It's pretty awesome she has two doctor parents. How wonderful. You're very humble.
It has been very cool to be on the other side. Even with all of our experience we are learning so much every day, so hoping by sharing we can help others!!
@@TheDoctorsBjorkman enjoy the learning process. You two make a great team.
I loved hearing the doctor’s perspective but from a real life stance!
I was happy that my ob/gyn had two children of her own.. and it’s great that she now has experienced childbirth.. first hand, real life knowledge.
Glad you enjoyed. It has been fun to be on the patient side of things! Learning so much every single day.
One week postpartum today, this video makes me feel seen. Spot on, thank you for giving me and other postpartum moms something to relate to. Best to you and your family.
I’m an OB who just had my first baby as well, and I just want to tell you how Much I enjoy your channel! I can relate to so many things with you and it’s nice to know that even though we are in this profession, it’s totally different being on the other side now!
Wonderful video! Tip on Vit D for baby: if using the drops, drop on your nipple before latching baby. I’m pregnant with baby #4 and still found this video very helpful and relatable! 👍🏻
I am 20 weeks pregnant and feel very in the dark. I’m the first of my friends and family to have a baby. Your videos are super helpful and as you are both doctors it gives a lot of peace of mind. Thank you!
Women do NOT talk about postpartum recovery enough. It has hit me in the face...and everywhere else. The WORST is the intense pain from tearing, and the incontinence. I'm on week 3 since giving birth (via foreceps), and I'm experiencing pain, sharp twinges, inflammation, clots, and weak (absolutely destroyed) muscles and nerves *down there*. I literally cannot hold in gas and (ahem) other things. I'm about ready to full-on buy diapers. 😥 It has destroyed my spirit, in a sense. I'm trying to ENJOY being a new momma, but the pain and "healing" is sucking the joy out of it. Even the sleepless nights aren't that bad. I just want to be at 100% again so I can give 100% to my baby and my family. I always knew there'd be some healing after giving birth, but I never knew it would be like this. I hate it. If I dwell on it too much, I could just cry. My son is worth it....but it makes me never want another baby again....which is a really hard pill to swallow when you've been dreaming of 2 kids your entire life. I'm growing frustrated and impatient. I just want healing to come. I want my dignity back. 😓
Sending hugs to you, mama! I had a rough recovery too, which took 3-4 months. Get into a pelvic floor physical therapist as soon as you can! Easier said than done but give yourself grace, you did a huge life altering thing ❤
6 time mom having my last one. One thing I'm doing different this time around are caddies. I have a nursing cady filled with things I know I'll need while nursing, like burp rags and nursing pads, the Hakka, etc. I can take it all over the house with me or if we go somewhere, and this way I don't have to ask someone to bring those items to me. There are some really cute fabric cadies out there. I also have a bath cady so I can easily have all the bath things I need for wherever I decide to bathe her (soap, lotion, towel, etc.). Another thing is no diaper pale. I'm using the Munchkin waterproof bags that I will empty in the outdoor garbage everyday. Diaper pales are way too stinky and gross. Last tip is disposable wipes for poos and cloth wipes for pee diapers. I cut some fabric up and filled a wipe container with the damp fabric that I will wash after using. I've done this before and it saves them so much from diaper rashes.
So impressed you’re already recording a video! Great job mama-it is SO hard, but you are doing great. One thing that has helped me with breastfeeding (specifically with needing more hands to hold down baby’s arms) is to leave baby swaddled while you feed her. My girl (11w) has been so strong from day 1, and will literally brace herself against me and push away from me with her little arms, then scream because she isn’t getting fed. Leaving her swaddled takes away that problem!
Oh great idea! I literally feel like breastfeeding requires 4 hands but Kurt can’t always be around to pull her little arm out of the way so this will be clutch. Thank you!!!
I would LOVE to see a video on how it was having a new born and dogs. How was it adjusting? Did the dogs feel neglected? What did you do for them to coexist smoothly? Any new rules for the pets? This seems to be a reality for a lot of new moms and a huge transition but there’s not very many videos on this topic. In my opinion brining home a new baby is such a big deal when you until this point your dogs have been your “baby”.
I love how real you’re being in these videos 💕. It’s helpful because there’s a lot of things we don’t know in advance when having a baby.
You’re amazing for making a video with all these golden tips for us new moms within a week after giving birth! I’m due in a few weeks and I am so excited and getting last minute tips and tricks from you and others. I have waited for years for my baby and can’t wait. Anyone expecting here I wish you a happy and healthy and safe delivery and healthy baby!!❤️
Thank you for putting it so natural and raw. Specially coming from OB it makes info even more valuable. Definitely command your dedication towards your CZcams channel that you guys did come on last week and even this week with updates.
I’m 31 weeks along and am loving your channel. Thank you so much!! And like other comments on here, you’re doing amazing, and the fact that you can even record/edit a video one week after giving birth is AMAZING! Thank you for keeping it so real for us first timers and thank you so much for creating this channel. And if you need a week off from making videos, we will all understand and be here when you get back. Hang in there mama!!!
I would love to watch a video about you and Kurt reacting to your go bag video to say what you actually used and what was silly to bring! Thanks for the videos!! They’re so helpful☺️
I am so happy i came across this channel! I’m pregnant with my second baby and can totally relate to everything she is saying!
I totally laughed out loud when she spoke about the first poop, and how “you want it to fall out” soooooo funny but SO TRUE! Love their content because its so REAL!
Thank you for putting this out so soon after delivery! Congrats!
Thankyou SO much Dr Sarah B for taking time out of this chaotic period in your life to make this video. It's fantastic!! I will be a first time mum in the weeks ahead and this was so informative and particularly useful. I really walked away with alot of tips and definitely feel now like I have some idea of what to do, buy and prepare for. I've actually shared this link with my brother's girlfriend who is 2 weeks behind me (pregnancy wise) in the hopes it will help her too. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for creating this channel. Been the most helpful and has given me the most confidence so far in preparation for becoming a new mom!
One thing I needed to hear postpartum when I asked if I would feel like myself again was that the version I was looking for of myself had changed. Motherhood changes you. Hopefully for the better, and the person you were is still there, just a slightly different version with new priorities. It was a challenging concept to understand and I didn’t really understand until after having gone through it. One book that I will recommend to all first time moms and what will make a great baby shower gift is “Good moms have scary thoughts” by Karen Kleiman. I wish I had it right at the beginning.
Just requested this book at my library, thank you!
💖✨ Love your honesty, and thank you so much for all of this helpful information! Congratulations on your new baby girl💖✨
I've never watched/heard someone on CZcams for this long, and actually enjoying what I'm hearing, thank you it's very helpful video, you talked almost about everything i was worried about 👌😁
God bless you and your family 💕
I love that you guys are doctor but just so real and down to earth, congrats on your bundle of joy, hope I get to take the same journey some time soon❤️❤️
This is so raw and real, thank you!!! Absolutely love your perspective, it's made me less anxious going into my third trimester!
Thank you so much for the tips Dr. Bjorkman and congratulations on your sweet little girl! 💕I am only 3 weeks from having my first little one and have been feeling a little anxious of everything that is to come. But knowledge is power and being informed has eased my anxiety. I have been following you throughout my whole pregnancy and you have helped me a lot!
Thank you for this! It’s so real and as an expecting momma that’s really what I want
I love this, thanks. It's been fun following your journey while preparing for mine. Now 2 weeks postpartum and loving your honest video ♡
Solid advice. I felt totally blindsided by the whole postpartum thing. I'm gonna share this with my sister who's expecting her first baby.
Thanks for sharing!!
I struggled so much on my BF journey with my first child. I'm now 20wks with a little boy and I feel like I remember so little of the entire experience. Really appreciate this video! Thanks so much!
Congratulations to you both!! ❤️ And I love all the advice! Thank you!
Super useful - Thank you for taking time to record this. That is something your mum should of tell you - but she didn't know.
Definitely appreciate how real and transparent you were about these topics! I love how you didn’t try to glamour things up, thank you for the tips! I’m 38 weeks and can’t wait!
Bless you for making this for us 1 week postpartum. I appreciate your content so much! Congratulations on baby girl!!
Thank you for being so damn real. When you talked about tossing the baby across the room when breastfeeding.. I shed a tear because I felt the same way 😂. Also when you said the baby is needy asf...you're my spirit animal lol. We love our babies but shit! Lol..thanks for understanding and sharing. Very helpful ❤️
thanks for being sooooo real!!! this is so incredibly helpful and really helps to check expectations of what is coming. Normally everyone says how wonderful it is to be pregnant but in reality the first trimester is just a survival game....
Just found you and it looks like our girls are only a week apart 🤩 congratulations! I'm really enjoying your channel!
Congratulations on your baby! Mine is 2 weeks old and he's my second 😊 for the Haakaa to be even safer and probably easier too is to put it in a mug so it doesn't tip over!
Congratulations on baby. And thanks so much for this video. I really needed it
Thank you so much for your realness. This is the first video that really helped me. And I have watched a lot!!
Thank you for being so honest about how you were feeling after because it makes me think I’m not totally insane 😭
Hey Docs. Please don't stop making these videos. You're wealth of knowledge is so wonderful to hear. Even just your experiences are great to hear. I know that having a new baby won't make making videos your priority, which it definitely isn't at all, but you will always have a viewer. Stay safe.
Thanks so much Doc( this video is such a realistic and eye opener for me. I hope that you and your hubby will be I good health and the baby’s too). Enjoy nursing and pampering your new bundle of joy and we are with you cheering for on👏🥳👍. Congrats again and happy parenting
I can only imagine how much you were already dealing with 1 week pp. Thank you for still giving the time and effort into making this video. 1st time mom-to-be, due in 5 weeks. Your videos have been a great help ❤
Thank you soooo much for this , really made me realize I’m not alone in all the breastfeeding struggles this first week 😓♥️
Congrats on your new bundle of joy! Thanks for being so honest and real! Still on the TTC journey and grateful to hear the truth especially coming from an OB.
Great video and useful tips. My son turned 2 weeks yesterday and video described exactly how I felt. Woman shall definitely have support during this period, my husband took time off and I can't even imagine how I would handle everything without him.
Just went through my 1st week postpartum. This video just feels so relatable and compassionate that I almost cried. Agree with everything you said. THANK YOU ❤
Congratulations! So excited for you both!!
Congratulations , so happy for the both of you. And thank you so much for opening up and telling the truth about it all. I feel like people don’t say how hard it could really be. Thanks for all the tips and sending a big warm hug.
Thank you so much! And you are most welcome. Just trying to keep it real and be transparent. I am an OBGYN with a pediatrician husband and WE have been surprised by things. So hope to share with others so they don’t make the same mistakes lol.
The hug is so appreciated. ❤️
You’re awesome, Sarah! Thanks for all of your help and advice!!
I love how real you are!!!
It would be really interesting to hear what you and your husband would recommend to new parents as advice before you had your baby and whether or not you follow your advice now? Like what are the things you used to recommend that you now and find helpful and what things you find really impractical now that you have a baby of your own.
Love the series!
This video is amazing, I wish you were my OB! In less than 24 hours I am getting my induction and I’m so nervous. But your videos have lifted my spirit and gave me so much more confidence. First time mommy here and I have no idea what I’ll be doing but I will definitely follow your advice💗 Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video! I’m 32 Weeks and my husband and I preparing for postpartum life; this was incredibly helpful.
I feel like this is a master class right here. Thank you
You're a great mama! And love your honesty!! ❤
I love early postpartum Sarah! So much realness!
Such a helpful and informative video! I love this channel.
Thank you for truly speaking to the difficulty of breastfeeding. I'm pregnant with #2 & wish I had your video for #1. Brilliant truths. Thank you, & brava!!
Thank you for making these videos! They're so helpful
I really appreciate your forthright honest descriptions and advice! About breastfeeding: I know many moms do experience the sore nipples etc. but it's not a given. I had some problems getting daughter to latch for the first five days but she suddenly got the hang of it and we were fine after that. Never had soreness or need to lubricate my nipples with her or with our second baby. I also just wore a stretchy sports bra and pulled it down on one side to free up the boob for breast feeding so that was super-easy and inexpensive.
Writing a novel and the hero and heroine are expecting their first child. I've done a ton of research so far and I think this is the most down-to-earth video yet. Thank you so much!
Having my baby boy in 6 weeks. This video helped me so much. Thank you!
Congrats to you both! Your advice was so helpful and real. I’m here adding everything you used to my baby registry 😄
Just don’t get the clippers 😂 Congrats to you on your baby!! So glad you are finding the videos helpful!!
❤️❤️❤️ thank you for sharing. Baby is 6 days old today and oh boy I am feeling this video. Thank you for sharing!!
I gave birth 5 days ago and had watched this before and now after, and the candor and realness of this video is amazing. Thank you. Don’t feel so alone. I’m so glad I found your page.
This was so helpful and honest. Thank you for your videos!
Hello and thank you for the videos- both obgyn and peds! I just wanted to add, that I was recommended by one of the postpartum nurses to file the newborn’s nails with a non metal filer instead of cutting the nails; so far it’s been helping. ☺️
So real! Extremely helpfull as I am going through my journey. As you said “ hang in there”
This was so informative I’m 21 and about to have my baby in June, thank you for this real advice !! Good luck with your babe ❤️
Literally laughed out loud about the postpartum poop 😂 (mom of 2yo here). Also loooved the Huckleberry app!! Congratulations on baby’s arrival!!!
Watching this video while breastfeeding my three week old! :) Watched your videos all through my pregnancy and am enjoying them again now in the 4th trimester. Hope your family is doing well !
Trying to wrap myself is a struggle. Yaas, THANK YOU for mentioning the burp struggle. I'm so glad I came across this video.
Congratulations on baby girl!!
I'm nervous about breastfeeding. It didn't work out with our first baby since he was born very small and couldn't suck very well, so I'm hoping this time we'll be able to do it, but yes, very nervous.
Super helpful info!! Would love more videos on breastfeeding for a new mom. Congrats to you both!
Saving this video to rewatch in 7 months!
Omg I just found you... 32 weeks in for me so it's great to watch your videos
Love from Italy
Thank you so much for this video. Congratulations on your new Baby girl. I know it's not easy posting this video especially when you just had a baby but I find your videos so insightful and helpful. They are so real and it kinda of gets me ready for what to expect after my baby comes. Please keep them coming and I would love to know more about breast feeding and what to do. Stay blessed and enjoy your baby☺
You are so welcome! I am so excited for you to meet your little one. I will ABSOLUTELY be doing a breastfeeding video here soon. It has been such a challenge for me-very rewarding, but very challenging-so I hope I can share some of the things I didn’t know that have really helped us get better at it!!
Big congratulations for you and your family!! So excited to hear the news! I have been following you for already some time and I am really moved by this video. All the best!
I love your honesty! Thank you for sharing
This is great info thank you! I wanted to add that I learned recently that when a car seat is not in the car it can be too upright and a sleeping newborn can cut off his or her air supply, so if I were going to leave the newborn in a car seat for an extra few minutes inside, I would keep a good eye on the baby or make sure the car seat is leaning as far back as it does in the car.
Your videos are so useful and informative. Thank you so much for doing this! ♥️
You are welcome. We are so glad they are helpful! Thank you for following along with us. We are so glad you are here!!
All the info in this channel is so useful.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and journey! Very helpful information. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You are so welcome! I am soooo glad it was helpful. There have been lots of things that surprised me, and I thought I was about as prepared as I could possibly be. LOL. Lots of learning on this journey. :)
Congratulations on baby! Thank you so much for this video. Im due in December but i have started to prep for postpartum and had no idea about the ice pads that fritamom offers. I just put a order in for them and the bra, thank you! Also I love all the tips you offered and wish i new all these things with my other kids. I appreciate you mama!
Aw thank you so much. We sure love her!! And I am sooo glad you found it helpful-it makes me so happy to know that these help other mamas. Thank you for sharing!! Made my day. Hope you are feeling good and enjoying pregnancy as much as is possible ;)
You can make padsicles yourself too: I used washable bamboo pads because they are softer. Squirt with aloe vera gel and witch hazel, put in a ziplock bag and freeze. You can use regular pads for this method just refold and freeze.
Someone recommended putting the Haaka in a mug to catch spills and I found it super helpful!
BRILLIANT. Why did I not think of this? Thank you for the pro-tip!! Such a simple solution!
Congratulations! I can’t wait to meet my little boy at the end of October ❤️
Congratulations mama!! I am so excited for you to meet him too! Do you have a name for him?
Congratulations on your little one. I really appreciate this video because I am 8weeks 5 days pregnant 🤰🏻 and this will be my 4th pregnancy BUT my little one with this new baby will be 9 years apart. It’s a refreshment for me and it will help me prepare mentally.
Congrats mama!! You are the pro here and I bet it is gonna be like riding a bike-it will all come back to you! Hope you are feeling okay, the first trimester can be rough!!
Once you start working on your pelvic floor if you can talk about how to strengthen your pelvic floor or help with recovery. Thank you for all you do and taking us along this journey with you guys ☺☺
Thank you, for your pro tips. I’m pregnant for the first time and I’m so scared about the delivery process. Congrats on your baby💕
Would advise having a doula and getting informed about what helps with labor and birth ahead of time. Counter pressure, being able to move around out of bed, warm water, being able to push on your side or hands and knees
I'm just over 32 weeks pregnant, and your videos have been such a help. I've made a list to annoy my doctor who is providing the maternity care, but I'm finding myself frustrated over the fact they don't take my concerns to heart. I've had nineteen broken vertebrae, so I'm worried that due to how messed up my back is, that I won't be able to deliver the old fashioned way, but they are so dismissive over the idea. Ugh, anyway, that's enough of my sob story, but thank you so much for these videos.
Great video! Much needed info, thank you 🎉
