Years ago, I recorded an album titled Manila Galleon Guitar Music. The idea was that the galleon ships, which were built from my home province of Cavite and plied the Pacific waters from Manila to Acapulco for 250 years, carried more than dry goods. We exchanged cultures with Mexico and other Latin American countries. This included music, dance, food and even some Nahuatl words (e.g. tiyangge, pitaka).
And our Filipino harana music, for sure sounds similar to some of the traditional Mexican love songs.
The Manila Galleon Guitar Music is a collection of compositions from the Philippines and Latin America. This one is titled Ponteado (excerpt) by the Brazilian composer Antonio Madureira. Backdrop is autumn drive in Napa Valley. Enjoy!
