      So it's the quality assurance that lacks, which slightly makes things better but still not enough to recommend buying it since you might be among the unlucky ones.

  • @BadgerBotherer1
    @BadgerBotherer1 Před 2 lety +9

    Nice review. I think you got unlucky there, because I received this tent a few days ago, and have just left it out for two days of the heaviest rain I can ever remember, and there's no sign of a single drop of water inside. I'm quite impressed! I did find the floor a bit flimsy, however, and water was on the point of seeping through from below. I bought a footprint to hopefully rectify that, although it would be better if they just built in a more-substantial groundsheet. Regarding price, I bought mine from Geertop's website, which cost me only £62 with no import duties from China, so quite a saving on the Amazon price. Cheers!

    I have used my geertop 1 person bivy on 2 separate occasions, each over a 4 day's and 3 night's period. I'm in Hawaii and so it rains pretty heavy during the night and mostly sunny blue sky during the day. Luckily haven't had any issues with rain/water getting into my bivy Wich is the same as in this video. By the way I was so impressed with my geertop 1 man bivy tent, that I also bought a second tent for my son, however he has only used his bivy once and he hasn't had any issues either.

    Hi - not sure if it's in this video but in your original review of the Geertop Bivy you had the tent set up wrong. Look at 1:40 where you can see you neglected to put the front pole thru the big arch sleeve, and you can see the sleeve lying flat in front of the pole. This doesn't change the waterproofness of the tent, but it does the interior volume.

    I have the geertop hooped bivvy. It’s okay if you’re new to bivvy camping, but it has condensation problems, and the ventilation does nothing against Aussie heat waves. I’ve decided to switch to the TAS bivvy with poles (this is what they call their hooped bivvy) and a good old fashioned hammock for the warmer months.

    so I picked one of these up cheap (£50, June 2022) seemed to be the last green one on Amazon, so maybe they were stock dumping. I'm a bit concerned now following the poor rain performance but I have silicone-based tent spray (from halfords I think) it worked pretty well on my other tents when they got older, so I'll give the geertop a good douse and see if it helps. I pack a tarp as well so if things get super bad I can throw it over I guess. Shame really, out of all the purposes of a tent, keeping you dry is number one on my list!

  • @stephenhands2108
    @stephenhands2108 Před 2 lety +2

    I must say I was quite surprised and somewhat shocked by the poor performance of your GeerTop tent, I think you must have got a lemon there. We sell a lot of these GeerTop tents, and our own version of it (STATION13), and we’ve never seen or had reports of any leaking issues, let alone the serious leaks your example suffered. Over the last 5 - 6 years we have sold hundreds of these tents without any issues so I can only assume your tent must be faulty - perhaps the PU coating is for some reason patchy. Incidentally, we actually sell this tent with additional guylines and pegs so that the foot end flysheet ties can be guyed out. This pulls taut the foot end and you do not get that flat spot for puddles to form. All the best.

    Truthfully, I don't trust any lightweight tent to be waterproof, all of them will wet out at a certain point and begin to sweat water through them. The good part of a bivy tent is it's quick to assemble and lightweight to carry, but you will have to waterproof tarp or plastic over it to prevent wet out, as you will with most any lightweight material tent of any size.

    Hätte diese Review früher sehen müssen. Der erste kleine Schauer und es Tropft spürbar in das Zelt hinein..
    Enttäuschend für den Preis:(

    Not good at all? Certainly changed my mind on purchasing it. You'd think they'd put these through waterproof tests, but apparently not?
    £100 quid to get soaked?

      Yeah I don't think they test them at all. Pretty appalling!

      Thank you for your comment Thomas, would you mind doing a review and showing everyone how your tent is superior?

    Several problems with this video
    1) This is NOT the bivy tent. The bivi tent is much much smaller. What you have here is the 1 person tent (as indicated on their website).
    2) Guylines issues: Everyone knows you MUST try your gear at home before going out. This, to learn how to use it and see if there's anything missing or things you have to provide from your side. Besides that, many manufacturers will add several ADDITIONAL anchor points for guylines. If so, the end user must get additional guylines. You obviously didn't do any of those basics steps.
    3) Setup: The guylines are not designed to stretch a tent properly. You blamed your bad setup on the guylines..
    4) Have you pre-conditioned the tent? Obviously not. Most low tech tents needs to be conditioned. This means to soak the seams and let them dry so the stitching swell and seal the seams. It's also a good idea to add some seam sealer to those tents.
    5) @5:40 we see a setup problem. The fly is not stretch. A perfect condition to allow water to get through...
    I'm not saying the tent wasn't without default. But you missed all the important and basic points. Therefore, your test is not reliable.
