Love your get to the point, no fluff, informative Rick Moranis esk delivery. Far too many people make segments like these about themselves, how hip, current and up to date their vocabulary of the moment is or about Their dealership instead of about the relay of valuable information. Thanks for this cut to the chase list of tips, features and navigation of these systems.

Hi all from Australia. Took delivery of a June 2022 build Mazda3 last August. This is the skyactiv x spark compression ignition 2 litre engine, 6 speed auto in top trim only. Not a true hcci engine but with an extremely lean(30 to 1) fuel-air ratio ignited by a rich mixture of fuel injected at the top of the compression stroke. It operates like this up to 4000 rpm providing maximum torque at 3000rpm then switching to normal stochiometric(14 to 1)operation from 4000 rpm to redline with normal revability. Fuel economy is 40 us mpg highway ( as high as 45) with urban economy 36 to 38. Our maintenance schedule is 6000 mile or 12 month schedule with severe conditions at half that. However very comfortable, quiet (48 changes to reduce noise and vibration paths in the body and subframes). Just drove it again on a couple of trips longer local running around, noticed the subtlety of the suspension tuning and rear axle is not jumpy. Nothing has gone wrong, everything works and the quality of the assembly/design is first rate. Blind spot monitoring easily makes up for the c-pillars and the driving position can be adjusted for anyone over 6 foot. Great distance car. Cheers

Hi James, another quick observation on the Mazda 6 speed auto. Many times I have found myself shifting down on the paddle and find the the transmission was already in the lower gear so I leave it alone until I need engine braking or quick acceleration without having to wait for kickdown. Tuned to respond quickly and very much the best of torque converter autos and smoother than any dual clutch system. Despite the rear suspension being non independent, much more durable and easier to maintain without the myriad of bushings in other systems. Great video channel, to the point. Take care.

Thanks for covering this useful topic. Having to activate the special, multi-push button for "service mode" to raise the wiper blades, then lower them, and how to resolve the inadvertent nudging of the volume knob "permanently" turning off the info screen are both indications, to me, of an unnecessarily, overly-complex machine (which, I'm sure, is industry-wide, anymore). When a vehicle you live with daily requires returning to the owner's manual for what should be a simple operation, they've gone too far. And yes, I still drive my simple, 22-year-old vehicle, wanting something new, but...

    • @JamesOrtonVideo

well its funny, I am in possession of an old 23 year old cherokee, I plan to revive for daily use, and have my 10 year old current daily, our 21 mazda 3 sits and used by my wife as she works from home, but nice for updated safety or long trips etc, but I actually think, the younger drivers really like figuring this kind of stuff out, tech or difficult to understand features, if there his a hidden trick to any new product, some people just gobble it up and, become more interested, its weird. one of those things this new auto tech, and sometimes there is nothing more fun than having a bitchfest online or in a forum for some. i.e. the facebook forum for mazda 3 2021+ there is hardly a nice word about the product on there. I'd love if they brought back the rear suspension from the Focus. It did need some extra upkeep, but it dramatically improved handling. Considering the car's audience (people who live to drive and don't want to drown in tech), I think it would be a good move.
Either that, or a new compact four-seater that's a bit 'zoomy', sort of like if a Volvo C30 and a Mazda2 had a baby.

Hi James, a great option to have available with Mazda’s own 6 speed auto. Paddle shifters standard fit allowing immediate downshift and holding until using the throttle on downhill or finish acceleration and reverts to D. You have the option of selecting manual also and holding a gear(very useful in hilly areas).Unfortunately after three years in this model and update(taillight led’s mostly) the option of skyactiv x and manual transmission in the rest of the Mazda3 range have been removed. Not enough people specified either( less than 3% for manual) couldn’t see the value. A very relaxing car and quite able to hit the redline. Still able to achieve .82 G’s on a skidpan on factory tyres. Enjoy.

      @user-3tf67bk46u Před 8 měsíci +4

I think you're wise to have reservations about it. Its longevity certainly puts a magnifying glass under frequent oil changes using high quality oil and filters.
I'm 'this' close to completely ruling out a new Mazda. For me, not making cylinder deactivation delete option starting in 2023 I think, was the final nail in the coffin.
Things that drew me though were exceptional interior quiet levels, a very rare assumption on most new vehicles, even in fairly high trims in some cases.
And I think their final product delivery of decent sound from their stereos has been better than most competitors.
I'm going in reverse I think. I'm becoming more and more weary of new tech. Live software updates that can brick your car, or certain aspects of it if you get off 'lucky'. Screens that control far too many aspects of the car, and if they go down (usually after wty) are prohibitively expensive..as in thousands of dollars. This is money we use to set aside for a transmission or engine rebuild.
Factor in the numerous radar or photo type sensor autonomy nannies and their super expensive "alignment" processes needed after parking lot scruffs (or less) and the insurance he said she said loopholes, etc etc etc. Cars are becoming far far FAR too complicated. And prohibitively expensive given the level of lack of trouble tree motoring we've, for the most part, been accustomed to over the years.
I wonder what is 'generally' the last year most cars were sorta close to simple and old-school. I used to think as recent as 2015 but now I'm not even sure of that. I think you have to go even older and then corrosion becomes an issue in rust belt areas (which is basically over 65% of N America. And many parts of Europe too of course.
Good luck on what you decide on 👍

Here's something that EVERYONE needs to be aware about the M3 normally aspirated 2.5 engine for 2023 and 2024 It's likely to apply to any of the other models using the NA 2.5 engine but I'm not positive. Mazda RUINED the drivability of this engine due to increasing the amount of EGR on the car, presumably for better emissions and maybe better fuel mileage. This information comes from a respected Mazda tuner. This results in inferior drivability and power at ambient temperatures over 70 degrees F. The warmer it is outside, the worse the engine runs and subsequently the worse the transmission shifts as it's confused regarding the unexpected lower output, sluggishness and hesitation of the engine. Now, I'm certainly more sensitive to this issue because due to my dealer working me me over in getting out of my 2021 M3 Turbo hatchback and waiting for more than 6 weeks for a replacement Turbo from port with NO clue from Mazda as to when it would arrive, I decided to go with the '23 Carbon Edition. Being early to mid may, ambient temps had not yet risen to where the drivability issues reared its head on my test drive. The only slightly good news is if you run Premium gas, as recommended by this tuner, in the car when it is hot out, the drivability issues are MUCH improved, so that is what I've been doing. Anyone who desires a responsive and powerful engine and is sitting on the fence about whether or not to get the Turbo needs to consider this. You will NOT be satisfied with these newer NA 2.5 engines in warm and hot ambient temperatures. Mazda needs to own up to this issue and release a TSB for it. Oh and to make matters even worse, the car has a "Fishbite" at cruising speeds all the time. Of course my local service department was "unable to duplicate complaint" for either of these issue. I've not yet had the time to go back and push that issue back on them. I have a Bachelors Degree in Automotive Technology and worked in dealership service for years so I'm not some noob in this arena.
Friends don't let friends drive Mazdas with NA 2.5 engines. 😉

What they're not telling you is you better turn that car over to a professional detailer from day one or get it wrapped, because your paint is going to start fading something awful during year four of ownership.
I have owned three Mazda3, and thet all looked terrible by year 6.
I currently drive a 2017 Miata RF Club mtx, and the copper red mica was beautiful until the end of year 4.
All of my cars are not garaged kept, and I live in Florida, so that doesn't help, but c'mon, man...4 years!
However, other than the beautiful, but crap paint, they are fantastic, very reliable cars.

Sorry to hear, It would be nice to go premium on the paint or corrosion warranty on mazda's. I do have a partially wrapped 2013, that I am sure helped save the rear fenders of mine, but in our area like yours we have a ton of salt from winters, rather yours from sea, they do have one of the most environmentally friendly applications of paint in the industry, but I get you, thanks for watching!

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 sedan, 2.0L Grand Touring. 250k miles. Super reliable. My sky blue mica paint had most of the clear peel off after about 7 years.

If you keep your cars waxed, they shouldn't fade. Waxes have UV protection and UV damage is what causes fading.

So has something changed? I have a 2010 Mazda 3 hatch that I keep parked outside. Paint is still in pretty good condition. It isn't red though, it is grey/silver. Other things haven't fared too well. The weather stripping is about done; faded and brittle. The dash on those models had problems and mine is no exception.

Turbos need a warm-up, and lesson the life of your engine. Stay away from turbos unless racing is your thing.

Annoying that you have to click unlock four times to roll down the windows instead of just holding the button. Also, I don’t believe there’s a way to roll the windows back up using the fob?

I have an old Mazda 6 from 2006., no need to click-click-click before pulling windows down or up. Just press and hold unlock for down or lock for up.
