How a Teapot is Made

- Assembling a stoneware teapot, from trimming the body, attaching the spout and finally pulling the handle; this process always takes a little longer with unfamiliar forms, but it remains a procedure I always look forward to.
A few details: the hole in the lid helps the vessel to pull air through as it pours, which means it won’t glug. As my pots don’t have conventional handles, like knobs or little pulled strap handles, this hole is pierced right in the middle on the top, making a feature out of it. The tip of the spout is more of less level with the gallery of the teapot, which means it can be filled up sufficiently without the liquid leaking out the spout. The spout also projects at a 45º and has a sharp lid, both factors that should help it pour nicely. I won’t say dripless, as the pot still needs to be coated in glaze and that changes so much, and at this point, I find myself not really caring if it even happens. Before attaching the spout, I soak its lower half in water, this greatly softens the clay and makes it very easy to blend onto the scored and slipped area on the teapot’s body.

*meanwhile in his head* “I’m a little teapot short and stout”
pretty tall tho
Here is my Handle here is my spout.
I was like, "The LIES! I was told 'STOUT!' " 😂
When I get all steamed up hear me shout!
Tip, me over and pour me out!
My toxic trait is thinking that I can do this in one try.
Simple fix: Actually try it, and do it a few times. That's how I went from spending 200 hours making a book to 30
It's much harder than it looks. I bought a pottery wheel recently and cannot for the life of me get it down but I will in 3 months or so
It only took me one try doing the teapot but it was a completely different shape than the one in the video, but that was a lot of trial and error with other art projects for my high school ceramics class
Everyone actually can do that. Especially those with art talent.
But it's different when we talk about "mastering" it. 😅
Need years of experience there. To make our skill perfect. Or near perfect.

It is really cool that we can make masterpieces from clay. It's really amazing.

Holy moly man this is actually unbelievable my mind is blown you have an incredible skill . can we see you use it 😂
Can confirm. I've made a teapot.
This is gorgeous.
I just had an epiphany. Clay was the old "plastic ". It could be easily moulded to shape, burnt to make it impervious. It made storage of water and food possible cheaply. I guess it contributed to the advancement of civilization greatly.
It's very breathable and keeps water cool. But they can't make bags out of it. Clay is still made and used.
Also many old kingdoms used it as disposable food storage like a fast food bag.
you have opened my eyes and bro im high rn its a bit too much ☠
few civilization used to store mummies 😋
Truly an amazing art🎉
As a ceramics student I can confirm: he makes it look way too easy lol

Exquisite work, would love a small vase for a single flower 🌸
I wish I could travel to where You live and buy at least one of Your ceramic products.
Super impressed by how seamlessly you added the the spout onto the piece. I bet it took you a super long time, but I can’t tell it was added on at all even when I’m looking for it. Also, what kind of clay are you using?
Yes I'm curious too, what kind of Clay are you using? I live in Canada so wanted to know where to start ... looks like a peaceful hobby!!

True Artist 🔥
Wow beautiful work
7 small holes insted of 1 big whole made cleaning thousand times harder
In the UK, and many other places, people brew with teabags. If the pot only has one hole then the bags clog the vessel. Tea leaves can do the same, so, there being many holes ISN’T out of the normal, whereas having one large hole is unusual. Hot water and soak is usually plenty good enough to clean a teapot out, as long as you don’t let the pot sit and fester for weeks after use… but that reflects the user rather than the object in my opinion.
U r doing a lot of hard work
beautiful work
Very talented 👏 ❤
