The high-end Sim Racing wheel market is abundant with options, and Cube Controls has been right in the mix as one of the first brands you’ll think of in this category for a long time. Their previous flagship GT wheel, the GT-X Pro, has probably seen more hours in the Boosted Media sim rig than any other wheel, so it is with great excitement that we check out its successor.
Coming in at 1.387,00€ the Cube Controls GT-X2 is a big investment with some very tough competition. Our expectations were very high for build quality, functionality, ergonomics and overall driving experience.

#cubecontrols #simracing #wheel - Hry
1350 euros thats where this review ended for me 😂
I like looking at things I will never afford 🤣
Seriously 😂
It’s so hard to find budget stuff like this. Even button boxes on Etsy will run you about $150 including shipping.
@@Forest12896 True! I always make my own and once you buy the controller board / switches and buttons etc you dont save much money. I do it cos I like building them and I can design exactly what I need I am not doing it to save cost. Basically the hardware is not cheap
the wheel is cool and everything. but i cant shake the thought that it looks like Buzz Lightyear and Cube Controls had a love child
To the rig and beyond!
@@Bert1986 🤣🤣
Ooooof, that's a pretty awful looking wheel, the white piece at the bottom looks very Playstation like!
Looks better all black though
Agreed
Very first thought, PlayStation gran turismo edition.
Im on Ps5, but would not want this wheel looks on my Ps5 😂
I think they shouldn’t have made it glossy. Maybe a gun metal grey would’ve been better
just bought this for my g29 so excited
Thanks for the extremely thoughtful detailed review on every product that comes your way. I watch to the very end of all of your videos and most products I have no intention on buying.
Thanks for the shout out Will! - looking forward to seeing you try out the DNR work 😎😍
If I'm paying $1350 for a wheel I don't want it to look like a toy.
Look at that Seneca Emira in the BG!
My first thought was that this was a controller add-on for the masses. The price brings it back down to earth and out the door.
regarding material choice: they built this wheel with the same materials but without the display and more buttons for the Italian Honda TCR team, so this is also a wheel that's extremely similar to a real racing wheel. Pure carbon fibre might have been heavier, which is why they chose this PA-CF bond material.
Carbon fibre has the highest strength and rigidity to weight ratio of any practical material. Hence why F1 cars use it for everything they can. There is absolutely no way in any circumstance that any form of plastic in existence would be lighter. It’s basic material science. Sure a real life TCR car uses a similar wheel, F1 cars and almost all other formula cars exclusively use carbon fibre steering wheels because they are lighter and weight matters in formula cars more than in TCR cars. The only advantage of plastic over carbon fibre is price and ease of construction. It’s only good for the manufacturer at the expense of the customer.
@@alecmillea4539I recon it would be impossible to lay the CF for this wheel because of the complex shape of the front face. It just makes sense to use injection molding plastic in this use case
1 word. Cost. It's like auto manufacturers making stuff out of plastic and giving it fancy terms. Plastic is still.... plastic. Just like "forged carbon fiber" has taken off. It's the cheapest form of it. It's like bragging your boots are genuine leather, when that's the cheapest designation of leather you can buy.
@@carsstuff9914 yes this shape is stretching the mould ability of carbon weave fabric. However, forged carbon fibre would be a perfectly valid option and capable of the assuming the shapes present in this wheel while being far superior to plastic. Also you could just design the wheel to utilize carbon weave if wanted. It simply comes down to a matter of cost. It’s the manufacturer being cheap. That’s all.
Been looking foreword to this, I’ve had the wheel a few weeks now and it’s great for me. Had a broken grip which cube controls replaced though
I've had this wheel for a few days now. It is my first high end wheel. Steering wheels are a very personal item so I accept that there wil be a lot of differing opinions. Aesthetics: It's unorthodox and I tend to dig that often. I like it in general, but not necessarily in every option. The white is too much contrast in my subjective opinion. The green is nice, but would clash in my space. I have the red because it's toned down from the brighter colors and matches my rig. The Black is nice, but to me makes it less interesting. I wish the black was gloss, I might have opted for that. I'll go over your points. The LEDs: NGL, I am disappointed in the warmth when using white RGB (looks slightly pink). It's not that big of a deal, but I was a little bummed tbh. The front toggles: The LED color is in fact adjustable in the Cube Controls software, not in Simhub. Rear toggles: I love these. They were a major selling point for me due to the way I have become accustomed to using a third set of paddles on my Fanatec wheels. I understand the concern of damage here, but I just don't know the propensity of that becoming a reality. I've had my share of mishaps but I also have built a good habit of letting go of wheel when I'm anticipating a situation where the wheel might go for a hard spin. I get that not all situations are foreseeable, but generally I think the vast majority of people spending this kind of money on a rim are dedicated to this hobby enough to have developed these habits. Could it happen, absolutely. Would I want a toggle that was too short to be used reliably? No. I have not yet made any adjustments to the shifter so I cannot comment on that other than I do agree they should ship with a tool that actually works for the intended job. Silly oversight. Materials: This depends. Ultimately, it needs to function as rigid in this use case. The aesthetic property of materials is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I do not agree that it "looks just like plastic". Sidebar: I frickin HATE forged carbon. Subjectively, I just don't like the look. I love proper woven CF, but it's not practical in every situation. This "forged" stuff is just unused scraps that get's swept from the floor and sold with Ferrari esque branding. /rant. Paddles: You can assign the clutch paddles to anything within the sim of your choice. In iR one needs to be assigned to secondary clutch if you want to use both paddles as full clutch and bite point, but you could also assign them to something else like looking left and right. Basically, it's done in the sim, not their software. Umm. 320mm was also a major selling point for me. Been using 320mm Fanatec wheels for years and I like that size.. that is to say, I like the significant change when going to a 280-290mm rim for formula cars. Price: Is this wheel overpriced? Yup. I think it is. I don't think its absurdly overpriced, but it is a bit high for what you get. Paying more for color is kinda bullshit TBH. I think this wheel should be like 100 euro less than the base price AND in any color variation. Value: 100% subjective. Even though I think it costs a little too much and it does have a couple things that could have been refined, I still really like it and I'm not one bit upset about spending the money. And its REALLY REALLY comfortable.
looks like a tomy toy my 3 year old would love
Great review will 🏁 Do you think most manufacturers will move to the 5-inch screens?
What a shame Cube Controls no longer have an Australian distributor.
Trak Racer?
Boosted Media, This made me so happy! I liked and subscribed!
Very unique wheel right here.
Hey Will, any plans to review the GSI FPE v2 (or the GSI HyperP1 for that matter). Looking at upgrading from a Leoxz XF1, not completely happy with the sharp edges on the grips or the angle of the paddles on the XF1.
Yep should have them soon hopefully.
I really like the wheel and I’m a big fan of cube controls, but I thought on there new wheels moving forward, they would incorporate Bluetooth functionality and the rechargeable battery to omit the wrap around usb cord for those that want to run wirelessly .
With the exception of wheels that have an LCD
Thanks for the review it does look nice but weird compared to other wheels it seems.
Got a question… I am about to buy my first ever “real” sim racing gears and of course I’m going through all your relevant videos @Boosted Media .. but I’ve got a question I don’t think I can answer on my own as I don’t “see” the cockpit I could buy…
I was going for a 3 screen set up but my space is quite limited and narrow. Now, I can see the stands on websites and they indicate which larger I should expect when “fully extended” but I can not see how much it would actually be because of the angle the screens on the side are and how much they stand out of the triple screen support.
Basically I should know how much a triple screen would be from the left monitor side to the one on the right…
I’ve got something like 118 cm in that space I want to fit the gear but I feel it’s very tight and most probably too small.
Now maybe I’ll have to go single screen because of that (or even VR)..
If you could let me know (or somebody else who has got the same set up) how long and large the set up is with say 28 or 32 inch screen, that would be really awesome.
It’s a bottle to the sea here.. But thanks to whoever can answer that
I had the same dilemma when I originally started planning my rig. It had to fit in a specific area and not intrude too much. I specifically did NOT want my side monitors swept back so far that line of sight woukd be off square much. I landed on triple 24" monitors. My OG rig was all wood but my current setup is a modified Trak Racer TR120 work integrated triples mount. The monitor angles are 121* and my eye distance is equal to all 3 when i rotate my head (22" / 56 cm). Total monitor width tip to tip is about 43.5" (110.5 cm). The total width of the rig however would be tip to tip of the side monitor aluminum extrusions which is 53" (134.6 cm). But... if you cut down the extrusions a little past the monitor mount that would trim the overall width to just about the same as the total monitor width. Maybe a smidgen less. My iRacing FOV is set at 153*. Hope this helps. Good luck with your build.
@@Lessenjrthanks so much for your answer. That does help! Have a good week!
I am wondering if you may be planning a review on the Conspit H2 Handbrake or any other of their products. The handbrake is Fanatec console compatible and absolutely blows the ClubSport v1.5 out the water in quality by looks of it. Would love to hear the best opinion on you tube
are you going to review the gomez hyper p1?
is this compatible with fanatec dd1 base?
Will - Thank you so much for stopping all the clapping. It has made your videos much better and less distracting. Bravo for listening to the feedback.
Brilliant video! I’m not really a fan of the white on the wheel. Could we get a review of the Rexing Mayaris 2 wheel?
I am also very interested in that rim
@@Lessenjrcomment on the next vid as well, to get seen 👍
Hi Will, can you confirm if this has multi position switches or just plain old rotary encoders?
Appears to be rotary only.
@@boostedmedia Ah okay thanks, I wonder why on these high end wheels they're only doing rotary only? I think even the new GSI FPEv2 only has rotary and it may be a small thing for some, but I can't bring myself to put down that kind of money when they cut that corner. Seems an unnecessary corner to cut unless it really would make that much difference to the price.
need a review of that blue beauty in the back
Dunno what possessed them to put those switches at the top back of the wheel like that
Will you review diy wheels in the future? Like the Pokornyi Engineering Brand.
Unlikely. The outcome is too dependent on the skills of the builder for a review to really be relevant.
Hello guys, sorry again to comment about another unrelated product again but have you looked into the GSI Hyper P1 at all? (if you already done a review I’m struggling to find it)
Should have one here soon hopefully.
Will you do a review of Rexing Mayaris 2 wheel?
Yep. It arrived a little while back. Will get to it asap
Hey mate great video. Was just looking at this wheel earlier, looks insane. Was just wondering if you would take a look at the eracing labs motion system. They are aggressively priced and seem like a good option. There ultimate kit and for under 4000 USD you also get traction loss and surge. Great Review again. (YT kept removing my comment when I added the link, its the first link after searching Eracing Labs Ultimate)
Hello everyone,
Guys, please help me, I'm a bit confused.
I own the Simagic Alpha Ultimate, I use it at about 55 %, mounted on the desk, a pretty heavy desk.
I don't have space for a rig, right now. Maybe in the future
Thinking about buying some solid wheelbase stand.
I have some questions, maybe someone with experience can help me.
First question : what's the difference between the FFB feeling between the solid desk, Ultimate mounted, like I have now, and some good quality wheelbase stand?
Do I lose some FFB details, as I have it now, on the desk?
Second question : what about the noise, vibrations, desk mount vs wheelbase stand?
In some cases, for example, Rennsport ( beta tester ) when I press the brake, the speed is under 10 kmh, it makes weird noises, hard to explain.
The same happens for AMS2, rFactor 2, LMU, AAC, especially when I drive over chicanes....
Does this happen, with a solid wheel stand, too?
Or with a good / great quality rig?
My desk, with everything on it ( TV 65 inches, as well) is about 52 kg.
Solid, but not very very solid 😊
Another, and last question : would it help If I replace the desk, with a heavier one?
Let's say 90 kg, with everything on it.
Thank you in advance, have a great day, everyone
Great video! But i feel Cube Controls designer should rethink his wheel designs... the last few wheels they released are a bit disappointing at that price point.
When are you going to review the Ascher racing McLaren wheels!?
Soon :)
I love the wheel, i like the red and green, i dont like the price. Typical from cube, i do love there wheels like the F-pro. Its just too expensive for me. Especially when companies are making priducts for half the cost. They make lack in a little quality compared but thats all. As sim racers we get bogged down like pc does with fps. You can get some cracking wheels with screens, this one is my favorite looking, just not in white. Im racing not sitting there looking at sim racing porn lol. These days i wont pay over £700 for any wheel. New or second hand. My f-pro cost £600 used. Absolutely cracking wheel.
I have a love/hate with their rubber grips. At first, I loved them. But as you said, they get slippery when sweaty and gloves, whether leather or more standard Karting gloves, they're also slick. They're slick with everything.
Great looking wheel but let down not having a carbon finish totally agree with ya 🤙
Might look sick with the red instead of white but damn it’s way too expensive!
I have the red version since I have plenty of red parts on my rig. It fits in perfectly. I think the white and green are too contrasting for the design. I might have opted for the black if it were gloss. I've only had it for like 3 days and it's my first high end wheel. Im very happy wirh it.
@@Lessenjr that’s pretty legit!
His palms are sweaty
Heal and toe gettin heavy
Theres skin cells in the grips already
Will has saidy
🤣
I’m never going to be able to discuss grips without laughing again. 😂
@@boostedmedia 😂😂😂
I think that shape-wise. this wheel should be compared directly with the Fanatec BMW wheel. Looks are fairly subjective, I liked the previous wheels of Cube Controls. That one is not my cup of tea.
DAMN! I have to buy my wife something expensive first, so i can buy this wheel without her complaining about the price 😂
Premium features and price with the look of a toy. I don't understand how these companies think they'll sell expensive equipment to only serious sim racers with a look like that
I would have bought this wheel but the switches on the back were wrong. It should have been buttons.
One think I dont like of my cube controls wheel is the design and loudness of the shifters. Really bad design that doesnt allow you to really dampen it properly. I wish all wheels whould have shifters like the esportsim fsw 3 wheel. Amazing.
I just ordered the gt neo.... Literally moments ago. Should I pause that purchase until I see this video?
Totally different price point and feature set so I'd say probably not. This isn't competing with the GT Neo.
I'm curious if I have a csl dd base is there any wheel that is not a fanatec wheel that is compatable with fanatec wheel base?
@@Rlaxoxmost of these are just usb wheels, so click them on your base and then the seperate usb in your pc
There are hubs that allow you to use any wheel. We've also reviewed a few 3rd party wheels that are directly compatible with Fanatec. Check out our reviews of Leoxz and ESportsSim
@@boostedmedia I was looking at the Gomez hyper p1 (Suzuki) but just couldn't decide. Ended up buying the neo gt for now as I figure it will be near impossible to regret and look to the p1 or something akin to the one in this video. It is oddly hard to find something that is 300mm, high end and has a screen that plays nice with Sim hub
to be fair... lately I've been desining wheels myself, I'm still a hobbist but my latest one is definitively better than this one and I'm not ego boosting myself... this one looks particularly bad for that pricing... maybe if it was like 400/600 euro would be different but definitively overpriced I feel.
That pricepoint is Fanatec Podium level. This wheel is nicer in every way. Button quality, rotary quality, grip quality, balance, functionality etc. and has a nice LCD. Value and aesthetics are subjective but this wheel is well beyond 600 euro.
@@Lessenjr I don't have the wheel in my hand and probably never will for that price but the feeling I get from the video is that it's just plastic... yeah good encoders but then if everything else is sub par I would not be happy to pay that price to be honest, and it feels like again they had a lot of good ideas but with bad making tho, like the positions of the button on the bottom and the toggle switches on the back. for that price I would definitely chose something else. To me that wheel feels like 600 euro at best max 700 I would not spend more than that to be fair
Can't decide if this or the cammus c5 is the ugliest wheel. Probably this because at least the cammus was form follows function.
You’re definitely not a Lewis Hamilton fan are you?! 😅
No time for mid field monkeys
Cut the Allen key
Think about that for a moment
Looks very PlayStation-y. Not my… wheelhouse. 😅
This is such a weird product. It has a cheap looking front plate that sticks out as soon as you look at it, even if you get it in black to match the rest of the wheel. The remainder of the body is made out of, essentially, plastic. It's priced INSANELY high. It looks cheap even at first glance.
I just bought a GSI Hyper p1.... which is absolute absurd money for a wheel. But for literally less than 25% more you get full CNC aluminum buttons, aluminum back plate, thick carbon fiber front plate, fully addressable RGB... etc. The GSI wheel is, almost subjectively, poor value for money given the crazy cost. However, compared to this wheel from cube controls, in a vacuum where only these 2 products exist, why would anyone buy this CC wheel? My comparision to the GSI isn't to paint their wheel to be a good product, it's to compare how poor of a value this is. 5 years ago this CC wheel sells with the huge screen and functionality. Now? Who is going to buy this with so many other great sim racing wheel manufactures out there.
On a side note - I agree completely with your comment. Who the hell though x2 non-protected switches on the back of a sim racing wheel was a good idea? I regularly grab my formula rim in awkward angles if I get hit or have to catch a crazy moment. I would break those things in a day.
Curious to hear if others agree with me. Anyone actually own this and have any thoughts?
1365€
OK Ciao im out!
jEEEEZ ulgy.
Any chance you review the GSI FPE v2? @boostedmedia
Simagic FX Pro is half the price of this people. And carbon. Just sayin. Why do these other companies refuse to lower their prices with all the competition now?
$1350 for an ugly, unchangeable finish, that has overspray, no carbon, no screen customization, very very very few buttons, even compared to Cube Controls other wheels, subpar LEDs, and so on. Nothing about this wheel justifies anywhere near $1300, yet here we are. These companies need to stop. Sim racing shouldn’t be a hobby exclusively for the rich.
Why do people buy stuff like this when there is actually a myriad of better products at better prices now? I wonder if it’s just lack of knowledge of what other brands are out there because I could never see getting this over a Moza or Simagic for significantly cheaper
Chinese vs European/American owned companies plays more of a role. Same as prices of European/American cars vs Chinese cars
@@user-qb5bd3kc6v that’s true when quality comes into question. But when China is owning the western world by providing superior or the same quality as the west for half the price. That’s major, and the western market needs to adjust
@@RaceZeus That is only possible if European/American companies lower the wages to Chinese levels, stop investing in research and development so they don't need much of a ROI, or have the company taken over by Chinese companies and moved over completely to China.
@@RaceZeusIf it would be that simple, Fanatec would not have that many issues and launching more competitive new products to replace the older pedal sets, shifter, hand brake, add steering wheels with display, RGB buttons, et cetera
It's not as nice looking as the GT-X3
Breath Bro you are talking like you are going to die 😱
God is that wheel ugly looks like a toy
That wheel looks bloody awful.
That is rather ugly and extremely expensive.
Yikes that is not a good looking wheel. Sorry Cube.
$1387.00 for plastic in 2024...big yikes.
Seeing the black/blue/white colors, my mind said it was a new steering wheel for PS5.😅
Boosted Media, This is great! Let's be friends and have fun together!
