- I review, breakdown and explain The Last Of Us Episode 2 'Infected'. I discuss the closing scene where we saw Tess get kissed by the infected person with Cordyceps as Joel and Ellie escaped and highlight the importance of it. I react to the ending and also give my theories and predictions for episode 3.

This moment really showed us how this infection essentially thinks for itself and has one sole purpose - to spread and survive! It was such a haunting/important moment! 😨 What did you think of this moment? Comment your thoughts below!
Yup
Same.
wasn't it clear even before that the infection's purpose was to spread? That's the purpose of every infection, to spread and survive.
Did you miss the first scene in episode 2? Where the mycologist in Jakarta, Indonesia was performing an inspection on an infected cadaver? She literally looks at the bite mark, sees cordyceps infecting the area, then pulls cordyceps out of her mouth then realizes what's going on.
I don't get how you missed that part
if i see one more person call it a "symbolism of tess' love for joel" and call that "romantic" im gonna start hunting people down for sport. its not romantic, its not symbolism, its just fungus trying to spread faster.
Still think it's weird that zombies "kiss" humans in order to spread the virus ☠️
Why did all the other infected run past her?
You'd think they would all be trying to kiss her to try and spread it, but nah it's just this one random who looked at her like it was love at first sight.
@@ceedee873 they're blind
@@1Insurgency1 Echolocation and pheromones, they're not completely blind.
That KISS OF DEATH scene literally made my skin crawled duuudddeeee 😵💫😵 who would have thought that the mushroom stems poking out of the infected mouth would look so creepy & disgusting at the same time 🤢🤮
So true! Totally agree with you - when it made contact it genuinely felt like you could feel it too!
Better than creepy and attractive... I think
@@BrainPilot I'm gonna pee
This is exACTLY the opposite of the ‘kids of life’
Joel and Tess had a bond but you can tell they never allowed one another to get too close. Neither wanted to suffer the horrible loss they both already suffered by letting themselves become close to someone again.
TWD touched on these themes a bit but this series is much better.
Yeah, I honestly think this show capitalized a bit on the paranoia TWD created--ep 3, I totally thought Frank would be like most TWD characters. Then when we later had dimensional characters, and finally some characters that genuinely reminded me of TWD, but by then I'd learned to understand I couldn't just assume evil. TLoU somehow managed to feel authentic by showing a variety of types of people, instead of just leaning into total misanthropy. I appreciated that. Even the villains had understandable motives besides "hurr durr doin' it 4 the evolz." Truly one of a kind.
I think in the game it’s stated they used to fuck
This thought had never crossed my mind before this scene 😭 but now I know I'd rather be eaten up than kissed by a zombie.
Omg I’m literally subscribed to your channel and I watch your ASMR videos. I never thought I’d see you here ❤
No you don’t
My first thought during this scene was--didn't Tess say she knew the people at this base? I imagined that in her face I saw a horrified recognition, like she was seeing a person she knew (maybe even someone sweet who had a crush on her). As for him, whoever he was, I thought maybe some shred of his dying, fungus-eaten brain still recognized her as well, and was drawn to her; the cordyceps using the last shreds of human connection between them to infect her too. It's so horrifying to think of being an unwilling passenger in your own body like those ants apparently experience in real life. Definitely an important moment! Chilling and haunting to an extreme.
Makes 100% sense
@@1jazzyphae you looking way too deep
That person has been infected for a long while
This whole video feels as if the author only had one statement to make ("The scene disgustingly shows us how the fungus can even faster spread by mouth2mouth infection.") but had to write an essay with 1200 words.
A week's passed since i saw this and this scene still upsets my stomach 😵💫
It's such an uncomfortable scen!
The to guys going at it in the third episode had the same effect this shows dead to me
Same!
@@neilbradley6571 😁😁
@@neilbradley6571 Nobody cares. Go watch something else, then.
Man, the Zombies on this show are truly terrifying and disgusting. Bravo. I love how these zombies look different than traditional zombies.
Because they're not zombies, in any sense of the word. When they die, they die forever. Zombies are reanimated corpses. These are humans who are infected with a fungus. They're still living human beings, just infested by the Cordyceps and it's controlling their physiology and their brains.
Its because they are alive and infected and not dead to become Zombies. And their infection also is different in each stage, mostly zombies are made out of dead or get bitten by infected to become dead... This infection causes by fungi and it directly hits the nervous system fast enough but it doesn't kill its own host. And the infection is different, infected people are constantly fighting in their own bodies with fungi-infected brains and minds control and can't resist the growth inside. instead, I have heard the clickers stage is more painful coz u can hear them cry and make noises when they are standing idle... coz the host cries in pain when the fungi is overtaking the rest of the system.
@@henaghosh3069 nah, the clicker just uses ecolocation so clicking is just it hunting
@@HokutoABeurre yeah it's true when it's hunting, but if u see an idle clicker standing.. it makes loud gurgling sounds like a grudge movie,, that's the point of when the host is helpless and in pain :)
@@henaghosh3069runners sometimes cry too 🥲 very unsettling to know they're still conscious
And, she let herself be kissed! Meaning, the infection from her bite was telling her to give in and speed up the process more.
Watched the episode again on my big screen the other day and did NOT realize the tendrils are extending into her mouth the closer the infected gets… sent CHILLS down my body.
I’ll just off myself if something like this ever happens
Same 🤣
To be fair... So would Tess
The tendrils in the neck are how the infection spreads. In the first episode when granny was biting, you can see the tendrils un-sticking themselves from the bite mark she made on the other lady. If this theory is true, it also might mean that Elly cant infect people from a bite mark.
It's so cool how we know what's going to happen, but they made it in a way that u can feal the exact same fillings u experienced the first time we played the game. It's amazing.
They've done a very good job!
Cordaceps already horrify me in a way I can’t put into words, and this scene took that to the next level. 🤢
Yeah... A little twist of biological evolution and we'd be no better than ants. We'd be toast. The idea of any kind of a fungus or bacteria or virus or anything like this controlling me, not killing me but CONTROLLING me, is horrifying.
cordyceps*
Rest in Peace Tess❤
More interesting than captain obvious' video is that if you listen closely to that stalker, it sounds like it's begging for help. That suggests that the host is still alive but has zero control over their body. That's more disturbing than the kiss.
Fuck that, if some fucking zombie tried to kiss me with a mouth full of fungus and I still have a fucking sentient mind despite the fact I’m infected. I’m LITERALLY gonna go full doomslayer
I like how tess says “oops” after showing her bite 😂
She said it in the game too
Even though I've never seen the show, I want to watch it even more.
When I saw this I was kinda suprise that the fungi had a benevolent way of spreading and kinda showing that is a more evolve being than a zombie type.
In general mushroom mycelium from many spores will interconnect to form a web with genetic diversity. I assume this is what the zombie is doing in this scene.
Pretty sure that was a stalker that kisses Tess and not a runner.
I see way too many people saying it was a Clicker, lol. It looked like a Stalker to me, too.
It could be because half of its face is covered so most likely stage 2 i didnt catch that good eye 😋
HBO couldn’t put a graphic sex scene in so they settled on this
hahah
I love how they expanded the infection and infected! They made it so interesting
fun fact, runners and stalkers still have some humanity and consciousness. it’s the fungus that’s making them kill.
You will always be remembered Tess RIP
Haha rip 🙏
That’s not a runner, that’s a stalker
i could listen to this song whenever i feel sorry for him
Go vote for this kiss to win MTV awards!!!!
WTF is wrong with you?!!
This is not a runner, it's a stalker! the second fase of infection between runner and clicker
Imagine sleeping, but your friend is infected, and now your friend is kissing you with mycelium
Kiss of Death either way I didn't care for her character but I have seen/played the game
I do feel like maybe the clicker was drawn to her maybe they did know eachother and he still seemed to have some type of memory or something
This is prob the best show on atm. Every episode is better than the last one. You get the horror, but you get a whole lot more. If they could have done a decent job with other games. ie Silent Hill, so wooden. Imagine a Bioshock, but 10 times better, as a series.
As good as the show is the game is sooo much better after playing through it immediately after watching the series.
I was horrified with this - pure, brilliant horror . Plus I really Anna Torv and really wanted her character to survive. I’ve not played the game so wasn’t expecting this! 😣
could also be a knowledge transfer, like mold does.
Tess loved Joel. As she was telling him to take care of Ellie she says, I never told you how I feel, meaning towards him. Later he tells Ellie he promised Tes to take care of Ellie as Tess was “family’ never saw a sign of affection between them. She seemed to be more like a sister. The sad, sad part of the infected “Kiss” was to put the fungus right into people and It knew she was infected. I found that more horrible than having to use the spores. She was a brave, caring woman regardless of how her and Joel and their group had to survive. It was not a kiss. It was a delivery system. And is was one of the saddest parts of this series. And there were many. Too many to name. Thanks You All for everything you did to allow us to enjoy it. At 83 I tend to enjoy all the wonderful people and moments in life.
Cordyceps got that unspoken rizz
the zombie said "help me please" before kissing her bro this scene was SICK
Watching the tendrils enter her mouth was chilling rip Tess 🥲
It really was - it felt like you could feel it!
@@BrainPilot so intrusive!
Put some RESPECT on TESS name plz cause the REAL story she went out FIGHTING not BITING 🤦🏽♂️
FR! I loved that they kept she was still bit like in the game, but for her actual death? She went down fighting FEDRA not runners and stalkers. It saddens me how they made her seem weaker
Bro this scene… I felt it in my bones 🤢
Same, it was haunting!
Warning ⚠️. This Video will contain spores.
0:26 pretty sure thats a stalker not a runner
Thanks daddy for explaining
I thought you were going to say that the infection forced her to stand still
I thought so too
Lol she was standing still so that she could have more time to strike the lighter to blow them up cuz if she had fought back that could have ruined the whole plan. Pay attention ppls.

Dude not much triggers me but this scene literally made me scream.
It was so uncomfortable wasn’t it. Those tendrils….
Infected got dat rizz 🥶🥶🥶
Kind of looks like the human is still inside and doesn't want to do it but he has no control.
So true!
Tess was looking at the infected as if she knows him. Maybe they were once in a relationship
This is one of the only a first shows/movies that have done things even better than an already great game. I loved that it was a horde chasing them instead of Fedra members coming. I also love the way they killed her off in the show better. Yea the unseen gunshot was pretty cool in the game, but a fucking kiss of death with those nasty things?? So cool. I was confused though, it made it seem like she knew the guy. Like I thought it was going to be a former bf/husband or family member but no it is even cooler. It shows the infected don't have to be violent, the parasite just wants to spread and it will do so peacefully too.
I don't agree with this telling the story better then the game, because it's not better at all, it's missing things and added unneeded things, mostly for cost and time effectiveness, but the show is absolutely great though.
If this is the fungus trying to spread faster, then why do the infected still Attack Ellie?
She is literally not infected, she is immune. I get what you mean but the reason hasn't been explained.
@@AG-JustYourAverageGuy then why did the fedra Apparatus Go Red when they tested her? If that Thing can feel that she is infected why Not the Zombies? I Hope they will explain it eventually
Maybe those fedra detectors check immune response against the fungi like Immunoglobulins and she isnt infected because the fungal reaction is already suppressed so she isnt forming any connection with the infected
Nah the virus counts her as infected
@@thibautklinger5178 it's because the fungus is with her but doesn't affect her. When you vaccinate yourself , the virus is inside you doesn't necessarily mean you will show symptoms or are infected/sick.
In some weird way it reminded me of resident evil when the virus turns into a parasite and comes out the mouth. I believe that was the 3rd movie? Was the kiss creepy yes but it was also cool.
That kiss tasted of porcini
My question is how do these monstrous funguses are able to control the human body without a brain and a heart???
Its sort of like a parasite i imagine. It overrides what is already there, such as a brain or heart
Call that a cordyceps kiss
Craig Mazin: The Fungus loves too. It makes more of itself. That's what we do when we love each other. A lot of us make more of ourselves. That's how the species is propagated. And there's this sense of, you know, what we are may look disgusting, and the way we reproduce may be horrifying and violent, but it is tender.
David: What does Cordyceps do? Is it evil? No. It's fruitful. It multiplies. It feeds and protects its children, and it secures its future with violence, if it must. It loves.
Why did she allow the zombie to kiss her? She doesn't pull away or move just kind of accepts it with mouth open.
I think it's so she could give Joel and Ellie time - and if she moved back then the infected person would have probably gone crazy!
It was absolutely unnecessary IMO. Just for the drahmah.😅😅 One more infected chasing Joel and Ellie wasn't gonna change anything.
Maybe she already started to lose control of her body?
finally i found this comment, this is all i was wondering about. Why didnt she just move out of the way and not let than weird creature enter her throat. She could still blow the place up without that lol
Idk why she let that thing to that. Screw the lighter just pull the pin on a grenade that’s laying around

I wonder what would happen if you grab and rip the tendrils out of its mouth
the host would rip you up into pieces and i think it is still alive just really struggling
It’s a stalker not a runner
That zombie got the rizz🥶👀
Yeah I think that's going to be the case!
Id say it was a stalker
Did you user a voice synthesizer for this?

Thank you for pointing out something very very obvious and looping the disgusting scene about 10 times... I actually thought I would learn something. And here I was, thinking that the cordyceps wasn't all that bad if it was capable of french-kissing !

Did someone else recognize that the infected person who gave tess a smelly tentacly gobble wobble smooch, looks like the person who chased joel and his daughter. I mean i'm sure its him, but it could be an other guy.
No that infection was 20 years earlier. So the one who chased them would be a bloater or clicker by this point.
If anything it just happens to be the same actor maybe
They did look a like!
@@varidian694 i know, i mean that it was the same actor.
In the game she'd been bitten for nearly an hour. And in the sheet on the wall in the show it said a neck bite was the fastest with maybe 40 minutes to 2 hrs being the most you get before turning. In the game she knew her fate, which was why she was so quick to keep them moving and in the show when she's going to the ladder she winces in pain going down
Her adrenaline kept the virus at bay because she knew how Joel would react and she tried to keep it together before finding the dead firefly/fedra agents realizing this wasn't going to be as easy as they'd/she'd hoped.
She too just wanted to hand Ellie off, one to get the guns, two so she could maybe later die in peace knowing the job was done, maybe have Joel or anyone in the QZ kill her if it got to that point. However seeing the dead fireflies on the ground meant she was f'd because it reminded her, oh right WE, Joel and Tess, kill fireflies just as we kill bandits and soldiers who get in our way, just like everyone else in this world, huh ain't that about a bitch of a realization. She saw that other people thought the same, killing government agents to preserve their way of thievery, thus further putting the idea of saving herself out of reach. That why she asked they set it right in the show, she knew the world was f'd either way judging by how they chose to live their lives as both black and white hats
She realized how they lived, hating the authority no matter what badge they wore, screwed HER, and anyone actually seeking help over because they adopted the kill on-site policy when it came to Fedra and The Fireflies.
Imagine realizing all that, seconds to process, as an infected, who was played by a male model fun fact, comes up and kisses the Cortyceps into your mouth and throat, ending at the brain, to "bring you into the fold"
No wonder Tess look horrified and confused, that was the hottest and deadliest kiss of her natural life
But it HAS mind of its own
I was having my dinner and that scene popped up 🤮
That entire scene, from when they got to the capitol to when Tess kicks the bucket, I did not like at all. I felt it was rushed and that the dialogue didn’t hit as hard and that the lines they cut out made it worse, significantly worse. In the game you can really feel the tension and the petrified feeling in the room before Tess reveals the infection, and then Joel’s reaction to it. In the show, it just felt like the actors were reading their lines and getting on with it. It didn’t feel genuine and it felt like it didn’t linger for long enough. The pauses were too short, the tones too different from each other, the reaction of Ellie and the lack of reaction of Joel just everything felt fake when in the game it felt like a documentary.
Why did she just stand there and let that dude kiss her?
Lost control of her body and mind
@@jobturkey7418no, she accepted that she was infected would rather die then turn and gave an escape plan for joel and ellie while also killing more zombies

❤️🔥
Perhaps it is cause she is still infected🤔🤔🤔
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS, THIS WASN'T A THING IN THE GAME
It remembers me that weird knights of sidonia kiss
0:27 i think that is a stalker🤔
Runner. Stalkers are essentially "nocturnal". Not really but they hide in dark places and ambush. They don't lead charges in broad daylight. At least in the game.
@@MrSoldierpants i said that because of the fungal growth on its face, i think very soon it will enter that phase
Naw, because stalkers are an adaptation to more dense and tighter areas where the cordyceps adapts the host to “stalk” their prey and even hunt them in packs. This would be classified as just a generic stage 2 infected, still on its way to be a clicker, but no where near the adaptation that makes a stalker, a stalker
@@Notawarriorsfan I get that. Just you don't see walkers in places like this and they also don't act like this as the other person stated. They are pack stealth ambush hunters and stay in dark areas. He is def an older runner or one that has skipped the stalked variant and is just turning into a clicker soon. Not every infected goes thru all 4 stages. (They don't all turn to stalkers)
This movie is so good
Yeah movie…

It's not a movie... Lol.

I refuse to watch this show, its to real and I can't! Literally i have an exit strategy ready to go when shit hits the fan!
How many times can u show the same pictures over and over again ? Lol..
I hope that everyone understands that this could never actually happen. It would take thousands of years of evolution, a constant requirement for ophiocrodyceps to evolve to be able to work in a human. There is currently no natural drive for the fungi to do this, even with global warming, plus the fungi is doing just fine on insects with their simple immune system and low body temp. Nature tends to take the path of least resistance.
famous last words
Fungi evolve very, very rapidly because of a short generation time and a very large population size (a colony of fungus can have a mycelium system that stretches over miles). They generate inheritable genetic changes VERY quickly in comparison to other species that evolve, like most mammals or avians or amphibians. It's exponential, in comparison to other species on this planet.
That's not to say that it would happen overnight, yeah, you're right there. But it wouldn't take as long as we might hope it would.
@@TheRealestEric Yes, even with the exponential degree in which evolutionary changes occur, there would still need to be a natural necessity.
I'm more worried about a comet.
@@rebimpskitzo8489 Like the guy said, a global rise in temperatures could provoke some pretty weird shit among plants and animal species. Fungi included.
You never know! But yeah, a comet is one of my main concerns as well. If we have the means to get a nuclear missile into space and could accurately hit it, that would make me feel a little better, though.
@@TheRealestEric I feel like we are going in circles here lol.
A rise in global temps has occurred before, and much higher than it is now, and C02 levels were much higher as well. I know the media wants to say this is the warmest the planet has ever been, but that is not true.
So what the "guy" said, it is WRONG, or at least a overly dramatized incomplete version of reality. Hence the point of my post. It is kind of like saying pointing a nuke at a comet would save us.
It wasn't a kiss 😑
How would you describe the action then?
Really, there shouldn't be any infected in any winter climates. It shouldn't be able to survive given that the infected humans don't take any measures to keep warm, layering up etc.
Say every sentence using the maximum number of words possible...

This didn't explain anything lol
What a “duh” video
So, it’s not so important. Click bait title 👎
Good ol' YT
She would not let an infected kiss her, at that point fungus was already taking over her body.
Or she knew if she tried to run away or react violently, the horde would've ripped her apart and her best bet was to stay still and get that lighter going so she could die quickly? Don't make stuff up. She still had three hours (tops) before the Cordyceps took control of her brain.
@@TheRealestEric it’s a sci fi, the whole thing is made up. Now what makes more sense? Three hrs and she turns instantly or it’s a gradual process.
@@kaydens6964 She doesn't turn 'instantly'. It's established that it takes about 12 to 24 hours for a wound on the lower extremities to turn you. 2 to 8 hours for a bite on the torso, arm, shoulder, hand (where Tess was bit, shoulder). Neck, face, 5 to 15 minutes (close to the brain).
The infection wasn't making her 'stand still' and she didn't LET the Stalker 'kiss her'. She knew standing still and hoping it didn't rip her to pieces was her best chance to die as a human being, and to keep the others away from Joel and Ellie.
Also. It doesn't matter if it's made up if they establish this timeline in the lore, lol.
@@TheRealestEric All she needs to do is dodge the kiss, it’s not a violent motion, Tess as we know would not let a monster kiss her, but at that point she’s already losing her humanity/muscle control, it’s a gradual process as cordyceps taking over, making the host a prisoner in its own body. This is well established in the universe as well as irl.
@@kaydens6964 If she moved away He would have tried again with force
