- Zach Miller of the Chicago Bears suffered a knee dislocation that resulted in him nearly losing his leg.
I'm a doctor and a sports fan and in this video I'm going to teach you some basics about knee dislocations and why amputation is a real risk with these injuries. It is by far one of the most devastating injuries we've seen recently, but there are still some valuable learning points in it.
Go check out the other knee dislocations i've talked about already!

I remember this game vividly. Felt so badly for him, but it sounds like he's doing well today. Modern medicine really is so impressive. Great video, as always. This channel is synonymous with quality content.
I was so scared for him during the rest of that game. Also, that should have been a fucking touchdown! Like sir we need to talk options, we may need to amputate. Did they at least overturn the call?? No. Fuck.
Todd Gurley Knee arthritis should be your next video
Brian deserves a lot of subscribers. He makes really good videos and I learn about body parts and how injury’s work
These videos make me feel smart
Watching that replay clip makes me cringe 😮
Especially because it wasnt ruled an actual touchdown
Adnan A 🤢🤢🤢🤮
Before watching it I was so fucking scared to watch it but after I watch it in like oh well... "im a pussy"
Zachary Gaming its still SO hard to watch

Doc always coming in hot with the knowledge, thanks for all of your vids!
Great vid doc!!!! Very informative.
Wish i had you as my health teacher when i was in school 😂
Thank you for doing this🔥🔥
Do a video of Rudy Tomjanovich. The person who almost got killed by a punch on an nba floor.
Kareem said the incident sounded like a watermelon hitting the floor.
Glad you did this video 👍
I remember that game. I watched his interview about the injury. I wished him the best.
You do a great job explaining this stuff. If you ever get worn out from practicing, you should teach like anatomy and physiology or something. You do just as well if not better than my professors at getting these concepts across🤙
There ya go doc! Show that injury so we can put 2 and 2 together lol great video once again!!!
I think I showed enough of it?
Brian Sutterer MD yup, just enough where we can feel the topic but not too much to gross us out...keep up the great work!
Scary shit, i am happy that he is still going strong
These videos that you make brian are honestly the best. No other channel is as tood as this one, i learn so much from your videos!!! Keep up the excellent work!!! Im your fan !!!
Thanks so much !!
Good*
I would love to learn more about the ACL! Really common in sports I want to see how it can be prevented and or recovery methods!
Hey Doc, you should do Todd Gurley's arthritis in his left knee. It was supposedly the same knee that he has ACL reconstruction on. I tore my acl 2 weeks ago and i'm researching what's the best option to limit my chances of developing arthritis in the future, would love your input!
Doc you're amazing
Zach miller was finally starting to have some good years in Chicago too. I was a huge fan and was so sad when that injury happened.
You should do Greg Oden's Kneecap injury, or how Brandon Roy's lack of cartilage in his knees even happened
hey bro, keep up the awesome work! as a starting out male nurse myself (murse, I'm sure you've heard of us), these videos have been a huge inspiration for me so keep on truckin with the good stuff!
Great to hear! Nursing is tough and us docs would be lost without you
I had the same thing happen. My knee bent back like that and it shattered my tibia plateau and tore my ACL as I came down. By the time they got me into surgery my leg was so swollen that I had really bad compartment syndrome and the Doctor cut my leg open on both sides to lower the pressure. Nothing changed, my muscles were no longer getting blood flow. For fear that he might have to amputate my leg, the doctor waited a extra 5 minutes. According to the surgical notes, with 30 seconds left my muscles started to finally get blood flow.
I then had to stay at the hospital for 7 days, with both sides of my leg still open. Which is a really weird feeling and site. Then they brought me back to surgery. Shaved of strips of skin off my thigh and grafted it to both sides of my leg. I was then sent home, and told that I had to have another surgery in a year to repair the ACL and remove the hardware from my leg. I spent 4 months off my feet. The nerves in my leg were messed up and my right foot felt dead. I had to wear a ankle brace to support my ankle which would give out once I started walking. It took me 2 years to walk normal again. My leg never was the same. My lymph system in my leg is shot from all the surgeries. I have to wear a compression sock for the rest of my life to keep my leg from swelling. If I get even the smallest scratch on that leg, it can break out into a huge infection. So I always have a supply of meds in case it gets infected. I've had 6 surgeries on that leg. I have been to a couple surgeons about getting my fasciotomies fixed, but either they have no interest or just won't do it. They say, your fine. Just wear compression socks. I'd kind like to have my leg look better and not like a shark bit me.
I was able to play soccer again, but then partially tore the same ACL, and meniscus when I was training some players. Had another surgery to clean it up and was told. No more playing sports or else I'd have to have a total knee replacement in my early 40's.
I can relate to Mr. Miller.
My wife had this same injury wake boarding a month before Zach. We we lucky to have an ER doctor who was a specialist for this injury. And saved her leg.
Can you do a video on rg3 knee
Do a video on Tiger’s Back or Leg , I guess it would be hard since there’s really no footage of any particular injury but hell I’d love to see you cover it
That was a catch. He even said it in the video.
Do the Emmanuel Acho injury from the 2012 combine
Do the Richardo Lockette injury.
Good video
Do Greg Oden's injuries
the worst part is they took away the TD. But I remember watching that game live, and while Im not a Bears fan I feltbad for the guy. SI did a long article about him, which was nice, he was kept on the Bears roster so he wouldnt lose his insurance and then they cut him the next year. I dont know if he plays or not now.
I remember when I had compartment syndrome.. I didn’t even break a bone it was just caused by stress to the calf overtime I had to have surgery like he was talking about shit sucks couldn’t move my big toe for 6 months I had nerve damage obviously the doctors caught it late but thankfully I’m ok today and can run and continue sports as normal.. by the way p90x your the shit for getting me back into shape
Hey I think I have that can you contact me
Please explain a lisfranc injury. It is common in football. Every year many players have extended injury time from lisfranc injury.
Can you do a video on the football concussion epidemic or a major concussion incident?
Could you do Robert Alford? he's supposed to be coming back soon, but I read that they might keep him out the rest of the season.😭
Do a vid on Davon Gales plz he had a bad spinal injury
Do Wilson Chandler Hip injury...
Miller was a hard working dude, it’s too bad he had to retire. He didn’t deserve to go out like that
Suggestion- talk about Todd gurleys arthritis
I had a gruesome football injury that almost led to my leg getting amputated. My injury was similar to Marcus Lattimore. I tore all ligaments (acl, mcl, lcl, pcl, both meniscus) and the popliteal artery. First surgery was 19 and half hours to repair the artery and now I have a bad foot drop and nerve damage. I also have a chuck a meat missing out the side of my leg because of tissues dying and the tissue eating it’s self. Similar to what Alex smith had(I just forgot the name). I can’t lift my left foot up and I can’t bend my left toe. So kneeing down hurts really bad. I’ve had over 8 or 9 surgery in total to repair my leg. People always ask how it happen, I usually say put a pencil in jello and snap the pencil or train tracks breaking apart completely. I could twist my leg and basically fold my leg the the complete opposite way. Terrible injury and my football career was over. Freak accident. Love your videos though!!
Brian have you ever done a video on soccer player David Busst? It was one of the worst injuries I ever watched growing up. If not, can you do a video on it?
What happened?
@@nofurtherwest3474 one of the worst leg breaks in football history. Luc Nillis was bad as well, similar to Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman’s injuries
@@adamhanford4036 Damn, how did it happen? Did it involve another player (collision)?
@@nofurtherwest3474 both were collisions, if you google them you will see the videos and images, just make sure you aren’t eating at the time 🤮
@@adamhanford4036 haha I will not look them up and use my imagination.
I have a question. Can Zach STILL lose his leg, should any other complications arise? Thanks.
Can you do Andrew Bogut's arm injury?
I don't know if you've done it (first video watching you) but could you do an analysis of the Bo Jackson injury? I think it's fascinating.
I did it alreay
Brian Sutterer MD awesome, thank you!

Santi Cazorla Achilles injury?
When Atlanta Falcons running back William Andrews injured his knee (Loooong time ago. Im showing my age), he had nerve damage that led to something called drop foot syndrome where the foot would not pronate. I believe he may be suffering from something like that.
But by jove that injury slow mo clip.. Made my knees weak..
When ur saying knee dislocation ia that the samething as a patellar subluxation?
Finally
Doctor can you make a video on Patella tendonitis injuries, I jumped up and landed fine during football practice and my knee felt funny like I may have strained it. This was in september. It still bothers me. When I play basketball and football. Is this curable?

@@nofurtherwest3474 its very bad it made my legs hurt when i watched it you shouldnt watch it.
@@twizzy5876 Ok i won't watch it.
I just injured my knee that's why I'm here.
If the bone does not break the skin, how is the affected body part at risk for amputation due to infection?
These are very rare injuries so I'm wondering how many doctors or sturgeons know how to treat this the best way possible?Probably not every surgeon can do this.
Jaylon Smith would be a great video.
Please do Alex Smith next.
Johnny knox injury should be next that was the scariest injury I ever seen
Dang all this injury talk makes me not want to let my kid play football.
He just announced his retirement a few days ago.
