Its $200 - 400 more expensive for a saw stop because it has special technology nobody else can use. If the law goes into effect the competition would put a cap on that price. No way they all go up that much.

TL;DR: MEN over 50 yrs lose fingers! I work in in operating room in the US. I must caution that the person who presents for surgery after a table or circ saw accident is NOT the kid in shop class as in this video. It is almost always a man over age 50 yrs who has used a power saw a thousand times before. Those are the people who get distracted by something else and lose a digit. Just a safety warning, as I'm in the group of very adult men who occasionally uses a saw.

Sure for a contractor or pro carpenter Sawstop is a necessary and affordable choice. But most saws are not $650 Dewalt they are 200-300$ consumer level saws used very infrequently, like my own. Adding $500 to that price is a non starter and I feel unfair. Though my saw will be good till I die in 30 years. Just be extremely careful, I do not get my hands over the table area when using it, usually 2-3 feet away as I am doing construction work not finicky woodworking

Capitalism is about having choices. Forcing there to be only one choice controlled by the government is what fascist and communist do. Thank God for some one trying to stop them from limiting choices. Let the market place sort it out.

Sorry that people do stupid things and hurt themselves. But that is on them for not being more careful not the manufactures fault. Accidents will happen and idiots will be idiots.
