(1420) Opening Warded Locks

- I get several emails every week about warded locks, asking how to pick them. Opening warded locks is super easy but most people trying to open them don't seem to recognize them for what they are: warded locks and not pin tumblers. In this video I go over the basics of how to recognize warded locks, point out their weaknesses, and show you how to open them in seconds.

I think it would be nice to make a review on your end all set of picks bypasses and tension tools. I'm just saying that because you brought out that really nice looking pick set out. :)
It would be cool but probably take forever lol
Bill has done reviews on, or discussed a number of the tools shown in his kit. Padlock combs, American lock bypass wafer buster, plug spinner, etc... But, it would be pretty sweet to see a front to back walk-through of what everything is/does! Maybe an idea for a video series! 🤞
This is the video that got me into lockpicking. Thank you for being such an inspiration and all-around swell dude. Have a happy retirement, Bill.
That sounds like a lovely vacation; rafting down the Gambia River till your eyes bleed.
i fell asleep at the computer last night and had a dream where you had some kind of meet-up, and there were like 5 other people at your lock lab. i remember there was a lock that was getting stuck somehow and i was convinced a shim would make it open. i kept fiddling with the key and was embarrased because i wanted to impress you by opening it. i dont remember anything else though. i want to say i think there was a beach involved? it might have morphed into another dream at that point
I just opened my first lock thanks to this video. Awesome. I’ve done it three more times in the last minute. Thank you so much!
Ebola for a cold?! Don't ever wanna tick-off BosnianBill!
It's just gone 12 here so it is now 2019 here in Australia. Happy new year Mr Bill. Nice video as always. 👍🤘🖖🍻
Love the rave finger light you used XD
Just watching this out of nostalgia during the holiday season 2021; if you check these Bill I hope you and the new family are doing well this holiday season. The first Christmas after a loss can be tough as it’s such a family focused holiday; I wish you all the best. 🎄
Haha, you crack me up, Bill. I'm in the UK but never seen that chocolate padlock before. Awesome gift.
I appreciate this video, as basic as it was. It was something I never thought about. It's the simple things that you miss. Thank you.

Happy New Year's Mr Bill, and family. Have a great New Year's
So it a Choc-o-Lock....... Best wishes for new year Bill keep em coming.
What I want for Christmas, Bosnian Bill to make a couple of videos for Christmas and New Years. I sincerely missed out on him releasing new content as a new picker. LockPickingLawyer got me watching but with all sincerity it was BosnianBill and LockPickingNoob who gave me the confidence to buy my first Sparrows pick set and start with padlocks 🔒. So far I’ve shimmed locks, bypassed locks, and city raked locks. Please come back to us some day Bosnian Bill.
Very helpful, appreciated
Fun old,lock. Great pick.
... watching this coming up on Christmas 2020....
Thank you!

Happy new year from sweden
Very cool chocolate lock! Love it.
Love the chocolate lock, happy new year.
Love the tool case. Is it still available and who sells it? Thanks.
Good luck with the mortal combat Bill, and the nephews! I would hope by now, your brother-in-law would know not to mess with you, but some folks have to learn the hard way! Thanks for the video Bill, and a happy new year to you and yours!
Where did you get your case in this video? It looks like the perfect case to organize all your tools. I also notice that you have a traveler's hook for getting through door latches, very nice. I have one as well.
Aha. I needed this bit of info. Found a set of warded picks for $9.95 and I'm golden.
Just ordered one from Southord.
@@brendancarlson1678 how have those held up? Just purchased mine
@@AllMedia13 They work for me on occasion, I just never figured out the right technique.
I got myself another Bi-Lock.👍🏽 Happy New Year Bill. 🍺✌😎🇦🇺
Bi locks are evil things!
Hi BIll, Happy New Years. What kind of case do you keep your by-pass tools in?
Thanks for making the informative tutorials. Do you have anything on Multi locks or American 2000 series?
I always think, what a clever kitty bill has, he can even knows to talk into the microphone!
At least on this particular ending bumper.
Am I the only one?
guess that chocolate lock might be susceptible to heat attacks...of the mouth kind. thank you for all of the time you put into your content. Have an amazing 2019
Hey Bill, Where did you get that nice pick case? I haven't seen it before and I like it.

Peterson Bookcase Lockpick Carry Case, I Believe. Couldn't find where I'm at though.
could you do a video of opening a warded lock without the master keys? I haven’t seen anyone do that yet.
Happy New Year Bill! Who makes your comb picks?
Pretty sure they are from Southord.
I almost did a spit take on that ebola crack.
Oh ok thats what this is, got an old rusted masterlock 22 off a relative with no key here and didnt know what it was
What about skeleton keys? Do these warded keys work for those as well?
Happy New Year. I like your pick pouch. Where did you get it
It's this www.thinkpeterson.com/the-book-case-nylon/
That chocolate lever lock is funny and cool.
You might want to retink that ebola plan. Just a thought. :)
I've opened similar locks with just my standard tensioner tool.
Wiener?
That lock is gooood chocolate I got one shaped like a pistol same brand.
Happy New Year Dark Arts....
I imagine the fake rivits are a byproduct of the casting process, where the vents would have been. Could easily be wrong of course.
Could also be ejector pin marks
Those looked like vents to me, but I don’t see why there’s be three vents. Definitely an artifact of the casting process, along with the seam.
I’d be surprised if hitting it with a hammer broke it on the seam, though. In warm conditions I’d expect it to fail at the thin part next to the shackle, and in cold conditions I’d expect a corner to break off whole, or at least crack badly.
I do agree that a few blows with a small hammer would open an aluminum lock body like that. But two wrenches prying the shackle apart would be quieter and faster.
I love your videos bill keep up with good content coming hope the ebola plan works! hahahahahahah
I got a rock.
-- Charlie Brown
What pick case is that
I got a GSP Ghost set, finally not the shit set I was using from amazon.
THANKS! Peace All! *~- **
The ebola joke was nice. Respect
hahaha..made short shrift of that erm..Hershey lite !!
Hi there. I was wondering if you could do an update on how you are after that one dude slit your throat? I was VERY worried when I saw some swine had attacked you. How long did he go down for? Life I hope?
Love from the UK.
Everything is back to normal. I'm back on full duty and left with nothing but the scar and memory. The perp is still awaiting trial and could remain in that status for a very long time. Heck, I'll probably be retired before he goes to trial, and by then his lawyers will have it pleaded down to littering.
happy new year big boss,I know you are busy but I want to show you a picture of a lock which I am interested to learn about its mechanism .I don't know how to send it's picture to you, maybe you can help me to know how should I send it to you. or maybe you can start a forum in lock lab's site so your fans can share a thing or two with you, like their personal tricks and new ideas. so if there is a better way to contact please let me know. this will help many of your fans like me to learn more. thank you
While the only warded locks that are built today are made to allow stamped keys, and can thus be operated by straight skeleton keys, I would think that it would be possible to make a cheap warded lock that would require an attacker to impression a custom key or have a large set of "try-me" keys by designing most of the mechanism to use a key with a thick "blade" but (assuming the blade of the key starts vertical) having it pass through plates that would require that the actuating tips have slots ground 55% of the way through from the left or right. If the warding reached more than 50% of the way through the blade, it would be impossible to make a skeleton key with slots on both sides because there would be nothing holding the tip of the actuating portion to the rest of the key. If a company were to do that, do you think you could open that as quickly as a typical pin-cylinder lock with security pins but nothing exotic like the Medeco swivel pins, etc.?
Absolutely! It is such a good idea that someone actually did it about 100 years ago. The design is so successful that it is still being done today for high security locks. We don't see them too often here in the US, but in Russia, Bulgaria and Poland they are commonly seen on people's front doors. Also, Abus has done this (I think in their Alpha) and in Europe this design is used on bank vaults with VERY long keys - sometimes 300-400mm long! THAT would be really difficult to pick.
@@bosnianbill I know that's how warded locks used to be made. The "problem" was that if one covered a key blank with lamp black, one could determine where it needed to be cut. While that was definitely a weakness, I would think the time required for an attacker to do that would exceed the time required to defeat most common locks, and laminated warded locks should be really cheap and easy to make. Maybe the existence of crummy warded locks, like the existence of crummy number-dial locks, has resulted in a lack of interest in producing quality warded locks.
It would’ve been funny if the guy sent Reese’s candy instead of Hershey’s.
So it is impossible to pick warded locks? All you can do is use theses skeleton keys then?
Did your brother get you Dengue Fever the year after that?
Why am I afraid Bill's babysitting technique is to chain the kids up with some Pewag and a Mul T Lock, hand them a pick set and then check on them every few hours?
I like the mortal combat prize.
Can we see the bypass bag bill cool bag
Reminds me of a Slaymaker.
I can’t help but wonder if the chocolock is functional.
You should try to pick it with the chokolade bar
OR Pick *ChocoLock* - (Chocolate Bar) - With TEETH! =D
@@kareno8634 that can also work
Gotta get me a few sets of those warded picks, but they are waaaay over priced !! 😪😪😫
for what they are, yea they can be a little expensive. sparrows has a nice set of them for 12 CAD ($9 USD), and shipping to the USA from canada is only $4.50 which is damn good. sparrows IMHO has the best quality for price
I got a drone, a pagoda rake set and a set of auto jigglers.
Anyone know what case that is?
I bought it from Peterson a few years ago. I don’t see it now on their website. Several people said they use DVD cases.
That chocolate lock is almost too cool to eat.
Wonder who won the mortal Kombat competition
Ebola huh?? LOL! 😂😂🤣🤣
The chocolate lock should be called chocolock.
I got two 11 pin ruko padlocks and a ruko d12 and a Yale y210/51 padlock, and a 16 pin ruko, and a 6 pin ruko and 3 euro cylinder's for Christmas and i made a video where i show Them all
Yeah...warded locks are a quick pick with skeleton keys.
so, 2 years late for the meme and bosnianbill wil become ugandanbill. heh
elbola chocolate locks
.
EBOLA
Don't you like your nephews, Bill ?. Why would you give them Hershey's chocolate ?. It leaves an aftertaste like vomit.
Why are warded lock picks so shitty? You can twist them really easily. Why doesnt anyone sell real keylike, solid metal warded picklocks? They're all mostly garbage.
When I was in Jr. high back in the 70's I found that Slaymaker locks could be opened by filing down all the bidding except the end one. That looks to be the same type.
