First off I'll say that the Gobots toys were far superior to a LOT of the first wave G1 Transformers toys. Yeah I said it. Courageous was introduced in the 2nd mini series/arc of the show. Not only did they do a darkest hour arc early in the series, but also an origin story for the Gobots race along with uncovering a surviving ancestor for each faction. Many of the bot designs and transformations were unorthodox but very interesting. Tricycle kaiju, bots with the entire passenger space as the head, a six car combiner team that had the feet hands and head built into the bots. Staks, Good Knight, Night Ranger, Tri-Trak, and Fliptop for example would all benefit from modern engineering.
True they could benefit form modern engineering but sadly no company wants to take a risk aside from repaints
Oh man, I had every single one of the Grungy and the suits, and my brother collected the Guardian suits with Courageous. I LOVED these things and played with them nonstop.
Wow, I had the red/blue/white one as a kid. I havent seen those in 30 years. I knew right away as I remembered you could flick out the wheels on its chest before you did it. I must have liked big robots. I still have my G1 Jetfire and Fortress Maximus from that time. This however was lost to time.
These are so fragile something probably would have broken if it survived
Same for me up until all my stuff got stolen recently. At least I have my memories of them.

Yeah Go-Bots ruled! Yes they were also transforming robot cars, but they were doing other things... the power suits, the gobot walker base... plus they were little, you could fit a while team in your pocket! Good toys!
I had courageous! So many memories with that one. Gobots are definitely under-rated!
My mom got me a Grungy when I was a kid. Had no idea he was from GoBots though, since I never saw an episode with the power suits. Also never had any other GoBots, and had no idea they were supposed to go in him. Mostly had Transformers.
Great video as alway I remember that I had blue one in my childhood, I liked the gobots almost as much as the Transformers. I will try to add some gobots to my collection of Robots .

I had courageous back when I was little. My grandmother got it for me in the box set. But I didn't use it for the GoBots I used it for my GI joes. You could put the GI Joe figures in the power suits and they fit really good. I used to have a mecha Godzilla I used to pretend Cobra built that and then GI Joe came back with courageous the fight the Giant mechagodzilla Cobra designed and built. I had so much fun with this set but over the years I have no idea what happened to it I have some pieces but the suits are gone the main body is gone. But just last year I bought courageous off of eBay really good shape even got the box with it. And then I never knew there was grungy the renegade version so I went and got one of those too got a really good deal all the parts and the original box as well. They're both on my display in my toy room but this time they have GoBots in them and not GI Joe's ....lol

Gobots are fun and still affordable. Sadly 3p does not give them the MP treatment they deserve

Thanks Tydirium, for showing these giant classic Gobot Power Suit Combiners. I'm a fan of the animated series and had a few favorite Gobots back in the old days. Nice this turns into a jet too. Leader 1, Cykill in the main torsos, good choice!

Very cool review! I'm so glad to see a longer review on the Power Suits. I had the Grungy Power Suit, and it always went toe to toe with my Transformer combiners and Trypticon. It looks great with your Go-Bots filling the pods out.
THANK YOU for focusing on the blaster guns too. I had completely forgotten about this, and I've had the power suit's gun sitting in my bag of random transforming toy parts for DECADES. Mystery solved!

I never got into Gobots myself and didn't know about the power suits. But I like they way they look, always a fan of Japanese mechs

I don't recall seeing any Gobot lines in the toystore back when I was a kid of the '80s. I think this line is far more rare than the vintage Diaclone-based G1 Transformers line. Will someone please make this Gobots line back again with improvements? Toecutter was a disappointment,though.
Seemed Gobots were real early 80s but Transformers lasted through the 90s and still going
The orange/red hands definitely goes with Courageous and black ones Grungy
Oh man! I loved mine growing up. I'm not sure which I had. If I remember right it was the one with grey feet. Sadly my vision is to far gone to see which one in the vid it was.
Grungy the black version had Gray feet and Courageous had Red feet

I hate that I was such a snob about Gobots when I was a kid but now I just hope someone makes proper MP scale versions. It's too bad KFC's Toecutter didn't pan out.
I was one of the few that loved the cartoon as much as Transformers. Sad about KFC not cutting it
I saw "Toecutter" and instantly thought of Hugh Keays-Byrne's character in 'Mad Max'. I'm assuming you're not referring to him, but was a GoBot actually named that?

I had the Courageous back in the day. Battled Zod a lot as I recall.

I had the limbs to both versions as a kid - was never able to find the torsos at all. (Kay Bee Toys pullin' Target level bad ordering practices before Target was a thing!!) That said, I guess that the guns also came with the torsos, cuz I know for a fact that the limb critters never had guns!!
I think that Bandai America did the "Grungy" repaint to give the Renegades a level playing field - yeah, let's just bloody IGNORE Puzzler, who WAS the Combiner for the Renegades - because only the original Courageous version ever appeared on the show.
And oh em effin' gee, that fugly Panosh Place Voltron...a part of my childhood I would prefer to forget ever happened. 😆😆🤣🤣🤪🤪 But, despite how fugly it was, it was a solid option and the first that was compatible with them 3¾" pilot figures they also had. And it's probably the cheapest option available nowadays. 😞😞😞

The feet has missle launchers, which should have the springs removed for the north american versions.
I always wondered that but can never find any examples of this having the firing mechanism in there

It was Robo Machines in Europe and Machine Men in Australia
I had the good guys set, And you had the hands on the wrong figure. It gose Black Hands Black Parts and Red Parts Red Hands.

I do understand and that is why these get mixed up I guess. I matched them based on all of the mint in box examples so they must have shipped matching my set up rather than cartoon
its the same toy with a different paint job.. someone was lazy :P
It's a shame that Tonka cheaper out and just released a recoloured version for the Renegades, rather than the tank version from Machine Robo. They did plan releasing it, but it never saw production.

The Gobots Power Suits first came out as the "Battle Armor 5" set of the Machine Robo toyline in 1984. Meanwhile, the Constructicons first appeared as the "Constrction Robo" set under the Diaclone toyline, either in1983 or 1984. So, the Constructicon toys either appeared first or at roughly the same time.
Seems like about the same time but Hard to tell which hit the USA market first
