The President has demanded the Police Chief resigns, but he's held out so far, unllike the Defence Secretary, who has quit amid the scandal over detailed warnings from India that weren't followed up or shared. The number confirmed dead has risen again to 359 and there are still bodies yet to be identified. We now know much more about the attackers. Most were well educated and well off, one had studied in the UK and Australia. We have been to a copper factory owned by one of two wealthy brothers who blew themselves up in luxury hotels. It's believed some of the bombs may have been made there.

So many innocent lives. Murder is never the way, mass murder/massacres/genocides even more so. These bomb blasts made me remember the 2-3 times serial blasts rocked Mumbai killing 300-500 people or even 700-800 each time and injuring many more. The media reports which had their wailing families still haunts me. My condolences to those who were injured/killed and their loved ones.

They aren't very intelligent to focus on their differences, which are so trivial. If it isn't a fight about religion, it's a fight about whether you're Tamil or Sinhalese, even though all Sri-Lankans are both. Or about politicians. Or about money. Or about land. - well-to-do families from a Muslim background, well integrated, children with 'overseas' experience, in a country without direct military involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria or other 'clash of civilisations' conflicts, that has finally made peace through brutal means with its Tamil/Hindu/Sinhalese/Buddhist faultlines experiences an atrocious terrorist attack of significant planning, scale and magnitude.
Without conflating issues, Blair was criticised for separating this type of terrorism from 'foreign policy' interventions, flawed though they were. Fifteen years or so after the (last) Iraq War, and some eighteen years after 9/11, we all need to sit back and look at why accommodation, if not peace, has not been achieved. Are these things connected - or not?
No one has the answers just not, nor probably for years to come. But solutions must surely lie with the progressive Muslim/Islamic community, who have to take ownership and de-toxify the narrative of hate and division. This is not some esoteric theological debate, but one of global order and mutual inter-dependence. It is about leadership.
I am not in the least bit interested in which God will provide in the hereafter. Rather, I am more interested in how we survive on this planet together.
