- Mt. Pinos is an absolutely beloved Southern California winter hike. In perfect conditions, hikers can attempt the Mt Pinos to Sawmill traverse - a ridge line trail that offers a glorious snowshoe route with views down into the valley and all the way across to the Eastern Sierra mountain range. For anyone looking for the perfect Southern California winter hiking trail, the Mt. Pinos snowshoe is a must do!

Finally, I was able to hear almost all of Elise’s words with her beautiful singing voice. The balance of background music was great. Beautiful scenery. I lasted visited Mt Pinos in the early 1980’s to see the California Condors while they were totally wild.
Wow that is so cool -- it must have been amazing to see a condor up there! We only saw crows, but even they were quite beautiful floating on the wind over the white expanse of snow. Glad you liked the song! ❤️
Adam & Elise, you have captured the picturesque & serene mood of the forest like no one else can. In So. Ca., a place notoriously difficult to find such a mood.
Set on a canvas of delicate and wispy clouds, giant snowy pine trees & untracked snow fields you hiked. The crunching sound made by your snowshoes, brought me to those classic scents found only in forest pine needles, bark & resin. The woody, resinous, and fresh aromas that permeate thru the forest transported me to a certain peace & calm. And for the pièce de résistance, Elise’s calming & soothing voice seemed to travel about unencumbered through the forest.
To many times we hear there’s no place left in So. Cal. we can go to escape the responsibilities of modern living yet, with research, determination and passion you found such a place.

I love it! I know there is something to be said for eating healthy, and I try to do that a lot of the time. But there's also something to be said for doing things that bring you joy and keep you young at heart -- I am def going to go Brown Sugar Cinnamon for my next batch in your honor! --A
That's one of my fav go-to hikes, not only in winter but when it's super hot down in the Santa Clarita Valley, it's "always cool at Mt. Pinos!"

Cool stuff! Am so jealous, I really, really miss the snow now that we live on the gulf coast! This is also a good reminder that every outing doesn't have to be a hardcore slugfest and that getting out and just enjoying the beautiful trails/mountains is totally worth the effort!!

Your video Brought back some fond memories. I had taken my sister and her family snowshoeing and sledding there several years ago. The kids had a blast including the adults. Perfect spot for snow ❄️ activities with the family , gentle slopes and wide spaces and no crowds !! Thanks.
That's so great you guys did that! We know exactly where you sledded, because although there was no one at the trailhead when we arrived we saw tons of happy families laughing and sledding by the time we got back. What a great place -- very cool you took your sis and family there! ❤️

I am simply freaking out. My niece, her husband, and their young daughter recently moved to Frazier Park. I was there on March 10th, as my sister and I made the detour from Pasadena to visit them. That area looks ripe for adventure. Thanks for this great feature, which I shared with my niece.

I got to enjoy a perfect snow hike up Mt. Washington and then down the southern Presidentials in the White Mountains a few weeks back. It was GLORIOUS.

I am so glad you are getting a couple of great winters down in the San Gabe's and beyond. To think I lived up there for 25 young years without really tapping into it all. Skiing yes, and some hiking but nothing like what you are doing. Good stuff. Carry on! Skiing tomorrow at Mt Rose, Reno.

It is mind-blowing how big the West is. I have been road bound the last few years. Tourist. It is also mind-blowing how small it is now.
Since 08 youtube has shrunk it. But where we go has been trod since 1800s. Natives before that.

Also, would it be weird to use a little propane and stove setup to warm a pop tart? I personally don’t think they need to be toasted, but that gives you the choice of room temp, frozen (place in the snow for a bit), or warmed up. What a versatile snack
Haha you're darn right it did, Colby! And yes it would be weird to warm a pop tart with propane, and yes I am absolutely going to do that 😂 We live for weird, and it's a great idea! Especially since we'll be bringing our little propane heater on the road with us for camping anyway once we leave LA, this will be a totally doable thing. --A

Hi Peter! Having been through some of those cold, wet British winters myself, I think California's dry crispy snow in the sun would feel surprisingly warm to you even though it's technically lower on the thermometer. For me at least, it's cold dampness that really chills my bones! --A

Nice views at the top! I went hiking the other day and when I got to Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area to hike, it was on fire! They were doing a controlled burn and they were burning to the canal on the north side. I wanted to hike the southern loop on the south side of the canal but it was too smoky because the wind was blowing the smoke my way. So, I drove to another place where there was a trailhead I haven't been on and I did a small hike. Unfortunately the trail wasn't marked so I just winged it. The trail was supposed to go about 2 miles according to an old timer I ran into when I got to the trailhead. The trail was supposed to take you to the Kissimmee River but I could not get to it as far as I could see. I was following where they roughed up the ground for a fire break. I wish they would maintain these hiking trails better here in Florida! Thanks for your video. I agree California has a lot to offer for hikers. I visited many of the National Parks when I went there years ago. Hopefully I'll get back there some day!
Joseph that's crazy about the fire! We really related to that, because some years out west we have so much smoke in the air from big forest fires that it's almost impossible to hike. But you did the right thing -- just find a trail that's not too smoky and take a short one. Good for you! ❤️

Mt. Abel and Mt. Pinos are among my very favorite places. Haven’t been there in years; I’m overdue! Gorgeous day out there! Do you happen to know/can hazard a guess as to what mountains those were WAY off in the distance, snow covered, when you were on Sawmill? The Tehachapis? The Sierra?!
You definitely gotta go back and visit, Caroline. It was so beautiful there, in every direction! The mountain range you can see in the distance from Sawmill is the Sierra. Not sure if it totally came out on camera, but with the eye you could vividly see all the beautiful snowcaps of those 13 and 14 thousand foot peaks! ❤️
One of my fav places for elevation conditioning. Way less crowded than Baldy.

Yes Jeff! We have two new songs, and another we're working on that should be going into videos in a couple of weeks. The recent rains have been kind of a bummer in keeping us out of the mountains, but fantastic for our music and that will pay dividends once we start doing some really epic climbs this summer! ❤️

I've been holding my input for some time now on the pop-tarts. Not that my 2 cents should have any impact but 🙂you have to go brown sugar cinnamon, and the crust is as good as the frost! Frozen with wine I have not experienced. Please let me know if you keep that down.

Haha we've actually discussed what we'd do in that situation, and I would definitely use the poles. It probably wouldn't go well for me, but I'm pretty darn handy with those things so you never know! --A

Sure, Victoria! If you're ever wondering what gear we wear and use, you can always click the link to our gear page. As for snow shoes, we actually rely like our MSR Evos. They're ultra-light and easy to use -- perfect for beginners. And both of us wear Salomon X-Ultras as our go-to hiking boot in summer or winter. They work great with the snowshoes! ❤️

I role some butter and frozen blueberries into my peanut butter tortillas. I bet they don't have butter Pop Tarts (like butter croissants) or blueberry Pop Tarts with peanut butter and butter. And what were those multi-colored chemicals sprinkled on top?
