We’re Adam and Elise, a couple who believes that adventure is the best therapy. We’ve climbed Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro in gale-force winds, hiked Iceland’s famed Laugavegur trail in a sleet-storm, and run through Death Valley in 130 degree heat. Through it all we’ve laughed, cried, bled, bickered, and grown ever closer as a couple. Live Hard x Love Hard will inspire you to get into the wild and outside your comfort zone.

If you go at the right time, this waterfall can absolutely pop off, and, beca...

Wow! Amazing! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
It's our pleasure, Greg! We were so delighted to discover this seasonal gem, and love sharing Cali waterfall season with you guys! ❤️
It could be the camera angle, but my wife and I were both nervous watching the video starting from 5:13. We're glad to see you both had a blast at the waterfall in the end! Stay safe. : )
Thanks Robert! Yes the slabs are pretty steep in some areas, but fortunately we train regularly climbing on slabs and were able to keep it very safe. If you guys ever want to do this one, approach shoes are a good choice to ensure strong traction on the slabs. ❤️
What an accomplishment! I attempted this route with two friends in April about 15 years ago, but we turned around at Iceberg Lake because of avalanche concerns. Ended up setting up a nice camp at Upper Boy Scout and heading back down the next morning.
Thanks Evan, and good for you for turning. We've done the same on Whitney in winter a couple of times before because we know there's real avalanche danger in several areas. Luckily we had absolutely perfect conditions this time, though even in perfect conditions that final 400 still felt scary! ❤️
A blast watching you two…❤
So glad that you saw and liked this one! It is one of our all-time favorite hikes without question. We may go back this year and try an even longer version of it that includes Moose Lake in the fall, and also at some point potentially try it as a two-day snowshoe hike in winter with an overnight stay near Pear Lake. ❤️
Thanks!
Thanks Paul!! ❤️
What a great video again ... Wondered about the butterfly as we have the same species here in the Bavarian Alps. The waterfalls troughs are just stunning.
I would love to know what kind of butterfly that was if you find out! One of the things I'd like to do in early retirement is spend more time learning about wildflowers, butterflies, and birds so I can tell you guys about them when we film them. ❤️
Remember these moments when couple is struggling. Lafe can be the best or the worst.
That is well said, and very true. Thinking about these beautiful times can really keep you afloat when things are hard. ❤️
Hello, is that Death Valley in the distance? Great Views!
Amazing views from up there, right? You are seeing desert in the distance, but not all the way into the valley part of Death Valley because there is a mountain range in between. However, you can see part of Death Valley park which is in that mountain range, specifically Telescope Peak, which is the highest point of Death Valley NP and an epic climb in and of itself! ❤️
You guys are to much…fun and beautiful…🎉
Aw thanks Paul! That was such a memorable day because it was SO hot out but the natural features were so amazing and we didn't want to miss any of them. Will never forget it! ❤️
Really wonderful hike, thanks for sharing it.
So glad you enjoyed it! We were really looking forward to sharing this one with you guys, because it just seemed like such a miracle out there in that hot and desert-like terrain! ❤️
I do not see any evidence of bad weather.
Colorado is tricky like that. Thankfully no thunderstorms/lightning that day on Maroon, but some rain did catch us toward the bottom on the run down. We def learned our lesson on Elbert when the sky looked clear to us but some Coloradans looked in the distance and said it was gonna thunderstorm soon. We sprinted off the mountain and they were dead right -- thunderstorm with hail!!
Nature is so amazing, and so are the two of you! Thank you for sharing these amazing parts of the word we have never, and may never see in person - and taking it to the next level to show us the best parts! Love you both, and always praying for your safety and well being.
Thank you so much! We truly love sharing these places with you, and it means a great deal to us to know that we're in your prayers. 🙏❤️
Love it. I did the canyon route last summer. It was amazing
Awesome! So glad you got to have that experience -- it really is just astonishing in person. ❤️
This is an amazing video.. 😃
Thanks very much -- even after experiencing it ourselves. we still can't quite believe that this place actually exists! ❤️
Amazing! Looks like a water park ride in the middle of the forest. Nice music, especially for the butterfly. Thanks for sharing!
Bob did you see the comment with the story about kayakers riding the teacups? Apparently some people take your water park ride idea literally! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Just saw it, Adam.
That sequence of waterfalls at @5:35 wow!
Ya we felt the same way -- we've done adventures all over the world, but never seen anything quite like that before. ❤️
Another spectacular video, thanks guy, I really enjoy those mountain views!
Thanks Miguel! Lots more mountain views coming up now that we're based in the Sierra!! ❤️
This was once a “secret spot hike” that most river outfitters on the Forks of the Kern would hike their clients into which I assume they still do. It has also become famous in the extreme kayaking world. There is a story of a NZ kayaker that miscounted the drops and paddled off the last waterfall - free fell and landed upside down between two rocks -one on his stern and the other on the bow. Apparently he survived.
Oh my gosh that is a fantastic story -- thank you for sharing it! We had no idea that kayakers even rode these, but can certainly see how one could get swept over those big falls. Amazing that he survived!! ❤️
That cold water looks good! In a heat wave down south.
Oh my gosh we've been reading about that! Hope you're jumping in some rivers and waterfalls yourselves. If it's any consolation, we're up in the Sierra in Bishop right now and it was 108 yesterday. I guess at least it's a "dry heat," but it didn't feel dry with the amount we were sweating out there! ❤️
wow what a amazing waterfalls it seems everyone you go to is different.
Thanks Geoffrey! Yes we are so blessed here in California with a massive variety of terrain, and it seems there is always a new gem to discover. The peak of waterfall season doesn't last long after the winter rains and snows, but we always try to take full advantage -- so glad you're enjoying! ❤️
"I have a rope" Talk about heartwarming words - you would not believe how many people head into the most rugged of terrain without a simple ROPE. ;-)
Haha we would definitely believe it, Russell, because we pretty often end up helping people who are lost with our GPS, or who are stuck somewhere they didn't mean to be with our rope (or else Adam just physically lifting them!). And to be totally honest, we once went on a traverse hike without a rope due to the beta saying it wasn't necessary, and then found out that it would have been necessary for us and had to turn around. We only needed to learn that lesson once! ❤️
I always love the seirra stuff. The scramble on the knife edge was terrorifing. Keep at it!
Thank you! And if you like a good Sierra knife edge, just wait -- our ascent of Mt. Russell coming up Thursday after next! It was a thriller. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Yeah you told me about that. It sounds spicy!
Dumb. I don't understand adrenaline seekers.
That's ok, Lucy. They probably don't understand you either. But hopefully we can all get along and try to understand one another rather than casting judgments.
Pct ever? Just wonding 😅
That's a great question, and you definitely know our mindset! We haven't done PCT yet because of work (though of course we've hiked many individual parts of it on our adventures), but one day when both of us are retired it is something we will very likely attempt if we're physically able to. We talk to PCT-ers all the time, and have huge admiration for them! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard haha I'll definitely tune in for that
Looks great, thanks Adam for showing the "backside of water", to steal a line from the old Disney Jungle Cruise Ride. I thought of Adam as I was eating Pop Tarts on a recent camping trip. Thanks for sharing.
Kim that warms my heart -- I was chomping a pop-tart myself just about 12 hours ago on Mt. Russell! We did it in one day so it wasn't while camping, but I certainly do love them on camping trips as well. What flavor did you go with? --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Adam, I generally have gotten the Cherry, I have pan fried them on a camping trip before, but this last trip I had Frosted Chocolate Fudge, but I am not nearly the Pop Tart Connoisseur that you must be. I was bummed that I could not make at least part of your hike to Baldy hopefully you had a good turnout. Take care.
@@kimcozean9066 Turnout was great, and you'll make the next one! And people brought pop tarts!!
That was beautiful but very dangerous 😳
Ray, please remember that we brought a rope, and very carefully checked the waterfall and the teacup we swam in for any hidden currents before jumping in. Not sure if you saw the whole thing, but we made sure to show ourselves doing that in the video too.
loved the torrent of water and the video
So glad you enjoyed it! We certainly had a great time making this one -- just pure fun and pleasure pretty much the whole way, and we wound up playing at that final teacup waterfall for over an hour! ❤️
Another great waterfall adventure! And showed a lot of respect for moving water, which was awesome. Stay safe guys!
Thanks Colby, we will! We're all about thinking safe right now, because we have Mt. Russell coming up soon!! ❤️
Cathedral Pick is a great challenging route to hike. I did a couple times and I really enjoyed it.
Excellent! We will for sure be back for more. Can't believe we never knew before how tremendous Santa Barbara hiking is! ❤️
What an incredible place.. I never heard of it till now. Thanks for the Trek..
So happy to share it with you! One of our biggest joys is finding hidden gems like this, especially ones with seasonal waterfalls, and lucky for us the western U.S. is full of them! ❤️
Love you guys. How hard was this hike? This area is close to me and I would like to hike it but I’m not in the best shape.
That's so cool you're in this area -- we really love it there and will definitely be spending more time in Kernville in the future. The hike is very doable, just a few miles round trip without too much elevation gain. Probably the biggest thing to worry about is the heat, because obviously it can be scorching in that desert terrain. So you should start super early in the morning if possible, and bring lots of water or a water filter. Pretty sure you would love this hike! ❤️
fLUTTER BY'S :)
Love them!! ❤️
❤ GR8 VID ~ LOVED IT ❤ We're up on the west side of Mount Rainier on a raging river .. great to see you guys ❤
Amazing!! It must be absolutely gorgeous up there right now -- we're planning to get up there ourselves in about a month! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard you'll love it .. July & August are definitely the best weather months up in the Pacific Northwest !!!
Love you guys❤
Thanks Paul -- what a nice thing to read on a Saturday morning! ❤️
Past Kernville on Sherman Pass Road. The east side there is a Cascades. Big twin waterfall. It's steep down to bottom of both off road. Kernville to 100 giants. The best one to swim is Rainbow 🌈 Falls. Deviks Postpile. Low water flow.
We're in Bishop now, Dan, and thinking about going to Rainbow falls in the next week or two! ❤️
Such a beautiful place! Funny, we have a local road here called Kernsville Road. Adam, you are so brave to jump in there first to find the current 😮!!
It really was an amazing place! Thank you for the compliment, though honestly I felt totally safe and secure once I set up the rope. Even if the current had been stronger, no way I was gonna let go of that rope! --A
What scramble should i do to get into scrambling?
That is a great question! The "mountaineer's route" up to Strawberry Peak in the San Gabriels would make a really good first scramble. We have a video on that one from a few years ago, so you can see exactly what it looks like and how to get up the final scramble safely. It's a lovely hike, with just enough class 3 sections to give you the feel of it without being too scary or tiring. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I saw that video. It didnt seem too bad. Ill look into it, Thanks!
Thanks guys. Really great video. Really keen to try this. How long was the whole trip? And how was the way back down? Awesome job. Keep up the good work
So glad you're going to do this one, Andy! We could not recommend it more highly. It is simply epic. It took us about six hours including filming, and the way down is just a nice cruise around the back side of the mountain -- very beautiful and relaxing after quite an intense climb up! ❤️
That looks like the best one yet, although all the waterfalls have been gorgeous - I love the cup effect and the different water flows between them.
Yes Catherine, we felt the same -- it was so unique to see all that swirling water in the teacups, and of course to have the opportunity to get into it as well. It was one of our favorite waterfall hikes in a long time -- so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Hey guys, I have never heard of that place before. It's magical! The scenery on the hike out was really different than one expects for the Sequoias, but so beautiful. I loved going under the waterfall. Thanks for the video! I hope you are getting settled into your new lifestyle.
Thanks David! Yes it's really hard to believe that just a week ago we were all climbing up Baldy together, and now we're posted up in Bishop just loving mountain life! So far it's going great, and hopefully we're acclimating well for our impending attempt on Mt. Russell! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Woah, Mt. Russell is a good one! I have never been, but have looked into it. Class 3 with a knife edge near the summit I think, and a never ending slog up a scree slope! Sufferfest time!
I have never heard of this hidden natural wonder.
Ya it's not well known, but during waterfall season before things dry up it is an absolute classic! ❤️
Nice! Beautiful place. I wonder how your subscriber hike went?
Oh my gosh, thank you for asking -- it was truly amazing! A huge turnout of amazing people, and everyone got along well and made friends and crushed the hike. We took some footage and are actually going to post a small video of it this week!! ❤️

I love to go, go. go too, but it's more than okay to stop and check out the butterflies. I love the under the waterfall shot!
So glad you enjoyed it! Ya increasingly I'm finding that I enjoy the small little details, things like butterflies and wildflowers, as much as the epic backdrops.
