- We had one day to tour Washington D.C. and you know what that means - it's time for another LiveHardxLoveHard city marathon tour! We created our very own marathon run/hike around the entire city of Washington D.C., making sure to hit the most famous tourist destinations including: The Washington monument, the Lincoln memorial, the Thomas Jefferson memorial, the National Mall and Capitol building, Haines Point, the Pentagon and Pentagon memorial, Theodore Roosevelt Island, and even the Exorcist steps!

Thanks very much! We honestly also hadn't realized how much there was to see in DC, and how truly beautiful and abundant all the parks and running trails are. It's an incredible city, and my daughter's been doing runs around it for four years so she really helped us in drawing up the perfect marathon route! ❤️

Just wanted to add how touching the Pentagon Memorial was and your touching tribute to those lost. The benches remind me of the 168 chairs of the lost in the Murrah Federal building Bombing Memorial in Oklahoma City in 1995. Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏻

Thanks Nigel! It really wasn't too hard, because we just took it at our own comfortable pace and had so many breaks for snacking and filming that we never even felt tired until about mile 20. ❤️

Also DC is such a great place to go running, also, I have to say you guys missed one of the best runs and places and that is the National Cathedral it's such a special place , I always take a different way back down and usually get lost such fun, enjoy your time there it's a really special place , thanks so much Larry Owens
Thanks Larry! Yes you are totally right about that -- my daughter recommended the cathedral, and also Rock Creek park and embassy row. But if we'd added all of them too it would have turned into a full-on Ultra! Actually, maybe we'll go back and do that at some point! ❤️

Watching this after returning from Kearsarge Pass, which I did because of you guys. Somehow that seems like the perfect way to wind down
Colby that is awesome!! How were the conditions going over Kearsarge? Is there still a lot of snow? We're hoping to do the full Onion Valley to Rae Lakes marathon in a day soon, but it's so long that we don't want to be battling snow and post-holing half the way. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard a good amount of the trail is dry now, and the snow that was present was mostly passable with boots and poles. The last half mile was the only time I put on spikes, because it was definitely not a place you’d want to slide unless you wanted to end up in big pothole lake.
Funny enough, I was also looking forward to doing onion valley to Rae lakes, which originally I planned on doing as a backpacking trip…but Kearsarge pass went better than expected, so I think with a bit of training, doing it as an epic day hike would be even better! Give it a month or so and all the snow will probably be gone and the lakes completely unfrozen

There wasn’t as much natural beauty as usual but all the monuments and places of historical significance offers a different kind of beauty to enjoy
It really does. Of course we normally are traveling to find big mountains and other great adventures in nature, but we do really enjoy exploring the sights and culture of spectacular cities sometimes as well -- making sure we don't go totally feral! ❤️
A stop start marathon would be Twice as hard as normal one i feel, well done

Thanks very much! Yes for most runners the continual stopping and starting would be brutal because it's very hard to get in a rhythm. For us it's not so bad because we're already used to having to stop often on mountain adventures both for route-finding and of course filming, so our bodies have pretty much adapted to it by now. ❤️

Thanks Paul! I'm so proud of her, and even though she doesn't like being on camera I begged her to just be able to put in a couple of seconds of footage to share with you guys, and she said ok. The whole ceremony was incredible. We left our Airbnb a little after 5 am, and were already down in the national mall by six. It's the perfect time to be there -- no crowds at all, just us and a few other early morning runners! --A

Thanks Mike -- glad you liked it! We left our Airbnb a little after 5 am and made it to the national mall by around 6. By running we got through the whole thing touristy part by around 7, and yes there were virtually no people at all -- just a few other runners. As with other popular cities both here and abroad, the secret is starting just before dawn and doing the most popular parts first! ❤️

maybe you guys already covered this in a previous video but any advice on how to become a batter and long-lasting runner? Beginner here trying to get started.
That's a great question! In our experience, the biggest key is to start slowly and progress very slowly. We both have the kind of personalities that lead to overuse injuries if we don't force ourselves to progress slowly. So that means that in terms of adding distance to your runs, don't add more than about 5-10% per week. If we had done that, we would have avoided a lot of injuries as we were building up our distance abilities. ❤️

A 'Republican Party" describes a group of people who emphasize individual freedom & individuality itself over equality of all.

Yes we actually started even before sunrise, running down from our Airbnb in the dark to be at the White House just as the sun came up! ❤️
