This whole thing was a big prank by a german comedy show, they wanted to expose the odd german award shows, where they are so desperate for famous attendees, they give awards to random hollywood stars basically just for showing up.
It was a pretty funny stunt in my opinion.

For those asking how no one recognized him as a bad impersonator: it was an elaborate prank, set up by a comedy show to get an award. no one backstage actually saw the fake Ryan Gosling upclose.

Joko and Klass, the master minds of this prank knew that this guy (his name is Ludwig) doesn't look like Ryan Gosling at all. But this made the joke even funnier. :D

He has a resemblance to Ryan Gosling, like he's his less good looking younger brother.
As mentioned by others: It wasn't the look-a-like who planned it for a long time. It was the team of Joko and Klaas (the two he dedicates this award to), two german comedians, who planned all this, inpersonating a management company and convinced the producers that Ryan Gosling is actually in the city. So the producers made up a new category for the award, only to have another big celebrity on the show. The guy was, if I am not mistaken, a school teacher and was known by Joko and Klaas.
And no, the award is not compared to the Oscars at all. But now they want their award back.
I think, the whole prank was great.

the prank was planned from the tv show "circus halligalli", not that guy. also they just called there and said he would only come to the awards if he wins a price and they agreed.

The funniest part to me is the fact the all of Conan’s staff, producers and stage people were tricked into believing that dog was ryan goseling. The dog showed up to the studio, they prepped him in the makeup room , and briefed him on the conversation topics. When he got on stage , Conan was fooled as well. Bravo Dog ryan goseling, Bravo!

The best was, that they founded an not existing PR Agency, and made the Event managers believe that Ryan is interested in that, and wants to come. And of course to get that Impersonator into the building and on stage.
It was a prank from German comedy duo and not from the impersonator himself :D
