I feel like other hosts tend to rely on the humor of being scared of animal guests but Conan just has a natural charisma and humor and actually interacts with them

Conan is the only late night host that isn't pissing himself afraid of the animals. He gets in there. He lets the expert talk. He actually interacts with the animal.
Expect for the snake, he caused every problem with that segment

My husband wanted a third dog. I didn’t. He spent a year trying to convince me. I wouldn’t budge. One day he said “let’s get a red-headed husky and name him Conan O’Brien.” Sold me on the spot. Three years later, he’s the light of my life and lives up to his namesake.

I wish the wildlife experts would tell the audience what they tell kids at a birthday party: "Wild animals can be very shy and easily startled, so please don't make a lot of noise."
They get desensitized backstage. Animal ambassadors are also chosen based on their temperament. So easily startled and scared animals don’t come on shows.

I’ve worked as a veterinary technician for about 13 years now, I want to say about 10 years ago at my old very large specialty hospital we treated one of Conan’s dogs. His dog was fine in the end but he did need a procedure and Conan was there every step of the way, usually it will be assistants that deal with celebrity pets. He was a class act all the way, super personable and I remember gave tickets to a show/behind the scenes to the specific doctor/department that helped his pet. What stood out to me is that I happened to be in reception when his dog was discharged and he thanked all of us and even made a hilarious joke at his dogs expense (don’t want to say the joke because it directly references the procedure the dog had and I still feel like that’s patient confidentiality). But anyway, my point is that you can tell his animal love in these clips is real and if you can ever get an insight into someone’s heart it’s through their kindness to animals. Love you Conan ❤

These animals may have been desentisized backstage before the show but it is still shocking how calm they are when Conan handles them on screen.

@@JHazard1000defanging is actually super dangerous for the snake. They dont stop making venom, its some that they have to make in order to eat. Instead it just causes them to lose control of their venom control entirely and it is horrifying what it can do to their faces. That snake was clearly extremely well socialized and even when it was close for comfort it was only displaying curiosity not aggression. You still need to be careful of course but if anything he probably was just interested in the warm stage lights

Notice how the cobra never expanded it's hood, usually when it does that it means danger.

Also it was likely defanged or the poison glands had just been emptied.
jimmyguitar2933 king cobras have hoods. We saw it slightly when they first picked the snake up but then it became more focused on getting away. Believe it or not this is a baby sized one!

Both of them own and work with venomous snakes and they would have never had Conan do something like shaking a doll head around nor would they have had that snake near the audience like that. In fact when Chandler shows his king cobra on tours he has the snake enclosed in a room with just him while he holds it up to a plexiglass window for people to see. I don't know where this guy got the idea that the stuff he did would be ok.

I forgot how much I missed this show. I started watching him when i was a kid in the 90's.
I had the same face about a bird once, walked into a pet store with my husband for reptile supplies, their giant male McCaw decided to fly onto my shoulder, it took 45 minutes and 5 employees, after it bit through my husband's hand, to get it off me 😳 anyone came near he started screaming lol.. I'm pretty sure I should just go buy him now tho lol clearly he'd protect me 😂😂. It was interesting and oddly fun and flattering lol.
