- Ankle lymphedema or ankle swelling, foot swelling, and toe swelling are some of the most complicated and stubborn areas to manage lymphedema. Lymphedema treatment varies for each person, so you may need new ideas to try to get rid of swelling. In this video, I share tips and tricks on how to reduce leg lymphedema, specifically in the ankles, feet, and toes.
*these techniques are used for those who have gone through standard lymphedema treatment, or complete decongestive therapy, and still have stubborn issues. They are not used as the first line of treatment. see videos below for standard lymphedema care

Kelly I am happy to purchase directly from you.Or where can I get Komprex pad and top foot pads?
I'm 74 years old now and I started having swelling feet about a year ago for the first time in my life. I did all kinds of research about it and I found that eating a lot of salty food makes it worse, and that if I drink more water that it helps alleviate it some, and that if I take vitamins and herbs to improve circulation that they help a lot. So I've been taking 800 IU of vitamin E every day (d alpha), one capsule of Hawthorn Berry Extract, two capsules of CoQ10, one capsule of Hibiscus Extract, two capsules of Dandelion Root, 5 grams of Vitamin C powder (dissolved in water), plus a good multi-vitamin every day. Plus I've noticed that if I sit around a lot that it makes the swelling worse, so I try to keep moving as much as I can. I hope this helps someone.
I’m 73, my doctor said my lab work showed my sodium was low. I told her I rarely use salt. She said increase it because sodium is necessary. I started to use a little salt…..now my ankles get puffy. Can’t win for losing.
@@mchapman132 Doctors know nothing about nothing. Yes, you need salt but you have salt problems because Magnesium and potasium are unbalanced and "doctors' know nothing about minerals even when lack of them or unbalances can practically kill you. The body can't function if trace minerales are not OK
@@gloriaiarango - my mom died last year at 96, she drank wine, beer, whiskey, ate the fattiest of meats, loved the fat. She never smoked.
She ate whatever she wanted, never listened to the thinking of the day….low fat…..low carb…..low sugar…..etc. she was healthy until about 6 months before she died peacefully.
I’m doing what mom did. Doctors make money on sick people.
You are smart!
I love your methods💕
Thank, thank you! You have changed my life. This is really working for me I hope this can be a long-term fix.
These are the best solutions I have seen for my ankle and upper foot swelling. I spent five weeks with Rehab Specialist and my right leg looks and feels 60% better. I need more to maintain my treatment for the ankle area. Thank you Dr. Kelly!
Where have you been all my swollen CVI life. LOL. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I can’t wait to try these tips.
Thank you. This was incredibly informative and helpful.
Thanks this video was very helpful to me. I have stubborn foot swelling and now I have ways to get down the swelling. Peace and Happiness
Very helpful and easy to do. Excited to start using them.
Very helpful and simple to do. I can't wait to try your ideas.
I so appreciate the tips!! Especially the ones to help the ankles!! My lymph swelling is below the knee & my ankles & feet are the worst! I learned so much from your video and am excited to try these tips!
I'll try
Hi Kelly, Thanks for the demonstration video. You took your time to explain and demonstrate everything. I have lymphedema and most of the swelling is on both thighs, both calves, both ankles, and both feet. The therapist I have seen are always in such a hurry and don't really explain or demonstrate anything. Your video was very informative and educational.
Thank you for these tips. I really need this advice
Thank you much! I suffer from swollen feet and ankles all the time.
A dozen years ago both of my legs from the knees down swelled up huge. I finally spent 2 weeks laying on my back in bed as many hours per day as I could with my feet high up on the bedroom wall. At first I only spent time in bed with my legs prone but that didn't help. That's when I decided to get gravity on my side by putting my butt against the wall with my legs pointing straight up. It worked. I had the same problem a few years later but only in one leg. I was able to correct that just by sitting on the couch with my feet straight out onto the coffee table. Right now my right foot has been swollen for a couple weeks but it swells even worse during the night when I sleep. 2 days ago I started moving my foot in all directions, spreading my toes and holding those positions as hard as possible in every configuration for a few seconds. That activity has made a huge difference. Today my foot is almost normal size after doing that for only 2 days.
THKS...SHARING WORKS
O My Goodness my 84yr old mother suffers from Lymphedema especially the Left Leg,took my mom too therapy for 2mths 3days awk so I could learn how too wrap my mom legs, thank you soo much im subscribing now thx.
Very good information I have this problem with my foot.
I wish I would have seen this 3 years ago when my medical treatment was horrible ,they never listened to me about pain on the top of my foot .and I went thru 6 month of horrible pain until the winter weather finally made my swelling go down ...THANK YOU for posting this for future reference
NO WAY, DOCTOR'S NOT LISTENING? PROBABLY LABELED YOU A DRUG SEEKING PATIENT. I'm so sick of hearing this same story over and over again. Im so sorry for your experience, it echos mine, thats been going on for 25 years.
@whatadollslife - Most primary or even cardiac doctors do NOT know about lymphedema - it is a hole in their education. My cardiologist prescribed Lasix for lymphedema, which is not an appropriate treatment and did not work.
Seeking out specialized care is worth the effort. Many physical therapy practices have CERTIFIED lymphedema specialists who have the expertise to help. Also, some medical centers with strong cancer programs have lymphedema departments. For example, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC has the one I have been using.
Best of luck!
wonderful for this specialist advice. I have noticed that wearing my racer sneaker with an old, worn, tommy copper heel out anklet, under regular short socks, over 8 hours, reduced my ankle, instep and toe swelling for up to another eight hours and overnight into the next morning at least.
I love those swell patches 👍🥳🤩 I have a bunch of different shapes of those from small to large. Great for reducing swellling and prevention of scar tissue after breast surgery.
Great info! I have found that laced sneakers can help as well
Don't forget that what you eat impacts how much you swell. I got rid of all of my swelling when I gave up all processed foods, table salt, eating fresh veggies and some chicken or fish on a intermittent fasting diet. Boring yes! But I have lost 25 pounds and have normal sized ankles and legs every day. It is worth it. I am 64 and feel 20 years younger without the pain and swelling.
Please share diet plan, thanks so much🇿🇦

Good information about supplies, and techniques, for swelling reduction.
I need this .Great idea. I will be doing this asap
This is very very helpful 🙂
I am glad I came across your channel, however I am a male and I have been suffering from swollen and painful feet and ankles for the last few years. It keeps alternating on different foot every few months. Doctors haven't been able to figure out the cause or why it's been happening. They keep treating it like a trial and error. Recently I went for a lymph nodes massage therapy. It took time but it subsided, the pain and swelling. I was wondering what would you recommend for someone like me. Thank you
You're a blessing!😀
Thanks for this video ❤❤
Great video,thanks
Great video!
Thank you very useful links tips.
Really helpful I’ve been strugling with guarments as I find they don’t fit propperly so this will be a good option when my feet are swollen tight.
Very helpful thank you.
These videos are awesome.
Love the tips for the toes which was extremely effective and reduced the pain significantly.

BEST info I've ever ever heard!!! Are you in the Manhattan area?
The tip about using foam to apply pressure under the bandage is great!

This is probably the best video I’ve seen on this topic, and I’ve watched many! Thank you!
thanks for that tip for the top of your foot I find it so hard to target that area with just my compression socks alone I will add that to my stocking routine
Looky there! 😂👀 you have 5 toes! Lolol! Some people have 6 toes 🤣🤣🤣 not me though! Whoo hoo! Thats a great idea for swelling in the feet! Thankyou! ❤️💕💕💕 I tease alot, but I do get serious also! Lol. Never fear, the best lymphatic nurse is here! Right on this channel! God bless you for sharing your expertise with us! ✝️❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💞
Great info. I am watching from Trinidad and Tobago.
Thank you for the suggestions around toe swelling... I've had the most stubborn swelling in the toes, and look forward to getting that addressed using this approach with the grey foam cut to size, and applied with the bandaging over the toes..
I bought an adjustable bed after I broke my shoulder and had to sleep in a chair for weeks. That bed is wonderful. If I have a stuffy head, I raise the head of the bed a bit and I sleep well, if my feet and ankles swell I raise the root of the bed so my feet are above my heart as I sleep, that works well, reducing the swelling. I found exercising helps but not enough, adding the raised feet at night and within a few days, I notice my feet are back to normal. I'm 71.
Just did that as well and it's a godsend. Got the Mainstays adjustable base from Walmart, which is much cheaper than the other ones on the market but does a great job.
Very nice thanks😊
Thank you so many suffer from this
Thanks for sharing
I've had edema for a very long time and never realised what it was until over a year ago. I have swollen ankles and feet and some tightness in the legs. I came across some interesting info about mini trampolines/rebounders and purchased a really good bungee model. Believe it or not by just bouncing up and down I'm managing my edema. 1/2 an hour per day split into 2 quarter hours with stretching exercises in between for 15mins is helping a lot. I may with time try an hour 4 times a week.
Rebounding has been proven to be great for lymphatic drainage. I have noticed the difference since I took up rebounding. If you look at the benefits of rebounding it is absolutely brilliant. Good for bone density, balance, heart, circulation, oesteoporosis, arthritis and much more. NASA did a report on their astronauts who were getting oesteoporosis and found rebounding worked wonders! You can purchase bars to attach to rebounders if balance is a problem. I don't have that issue so can work without one but for those who need that extra support it is well worth getting that add on.
One last thing it is gentle on the joints and apparently exercising on the rebounder lubricates the joints. If you have physical problems it is always best to discuss with a doctor whether this form of exercise is for you. I made my own judgement call and I don't regret taking up rebounding.
Thank You for the info on the rebounder :-) 10/22/22
Exercise is always very good.
Lymphedema and Edema are not the same!
Thank you very much

Need such good tips NOT just drugs only! 🙏💐🙏💐🙏!
I use compression socks with pouches for each toe, just like gloves, and also five fingers shoes, it’s the best for me, very confortable.
Best thing I did for this was was lay on a bed on my stomach so I was comfortable taking all pressure off my feet and I just slowly did some foot exercises that helped bring down the swelling cooled water like an ice pack helped too.
First off, thank you a lot for your videos, your advices..you are amazing(my physical therapist recommanded me to follow you)I have a question :when is a good time to wear the compression socks(I have to wear it because of my lymphedema),so…during the day when I stand alnost of the day during different activities or during the night?thank you again for your help and support!
Drink green tea every day and lots of water as well. These two things really help me profoundly. I have more swelling on days that I don't do this.
Lymphedema and Edema are not the same.
I suffer from this foot and ankle swelling off and on for years. My research told me that it's to do with kidney and even heart conditions. I have tried stockings for deep vein thrombosis and this helps to reduce the swelling considerably but it doesn't cure the root cause, which for me is the kidneys. Just how much is it the kidney and how much due to lack of exercise or walking due to underlying causes. Thanks.
Thank you so much. I have Lupus and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and over the last year or so my feet/ankles sometimes get extremely full of fluid. Like you stated, even with using compression hose it doesn’t help the ankle area much. Thank you for educating me. Your ideas will be so helpful.
I have EDS also. My legs swelled up & started leaking which developed into ulcers. I nearly lost my right leg a couple of years ago. Please make sure you keep suitable compression on your legs & keep your legs well moisturized to keep your skin healthy. I never want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. Good luck, stay healthy.
How long do you need to keep the bandaged compression on?
In your links, you included Swell Spot toe compression, but you didn’t cover it in your vid. I’m very interested in that product but need more info and having a hard time finding it.
These are all brilliant techniques and demonstrations, especially the one for the toes. Thanks for the careful step by step demonstrations and overall thoroughness of this video.

Hi Kelly. The swell pads dorsal come in two sizes small 10x14cm and large 10x19cm is that the distance across the top of the foot? Swell pads for the toes come in 3 sizes small 22 cm medium 25 cm and large 32 cm based on circumference. Is that the measurement over the top, 2 sides and the bottom of the foot?
Hi I’m 61, I had a blood clot which caused a wound on the outside of my heel. I had to have 2 surgeries a month apart and lost my baby toe. I have peripheral neuropathy so having the sock part/toes of a stocking & any kind of sheet on my feet is awful. I cut the feet out of my compression socks. My vascular surgeon told me private that compression socks don't help and to stop wearing them. I'm getting laser surgery on my veins. I'll look at some more of your videos. Appreciate your doing this for the typical average case. Would have been nice if you mentioned what level of compression on the socks.
