I had two stock Harley seats crack from side-to-side, midway back with less than 10K miles on each. I weigh 185 lbs. Base was plastic. I replaced both with Mustang seats which have fiberglass bases. No more problem.
Years ago, I had a Kawasaki Vulcan seat with a very soft filler that felt great for the first 15 minutes. After that, I was sitting on the steel base. I sent it off to a specialist who shaved off the top 1.5" of foam and replaced it with high density foam which felt hard for the first 15 minutes and after that, it was extremely comfortable. It stayed with the bike when I sold it.
Never, ever buy a seat that feels good on the showroom floor. Take it for a long ride.
I haven't tried Saddlemen yet, but I have their saddlebags which are very high quality. Yes, I got them from RevZilla.

I absolutely love my Saddlemen step up seat. I had a stock solo seat on my 07 V-Star 1300 when I bought it, I rode it that way for 3 years while searching and researching different seats. Finally I saw 2 different CZcamsrs (Blockhead & Her Two Wheels) recommend the Saddlemen step up. I checked them out and decided to go with them. The day after I got it I took a 350 ride. 110 miles each way to a fund raising run, then 130 miles on the run. The first 300 miles I said to myself that I could go another 200 miles no problem. Well that last 50 miles was unbearable. However I haven't had any similar issues since and I've put 250-400 miles on in a day numerous times since. I believe that I just broke in my seat on that first ride and it now fits my tuckes perfectly!

I put on the sportster I had. I found it a bit hard but I picked that seat out more in an emergency because of its looks. I was in the middle of making a long trip when I got because my stock seat kept making my leg fall asleep. Mine was a step up. I actually used it on some rather long trips for a long time and it did a great job at hiding the damage I had done to my paint when I was hauling luggage with the stock seat

At the very start of this video the seat on the right looks extremely comfortable and appears to offer lower back support. I put a 2-piece Mustang seat on my Harley years ago and I like it just fine, but that 1-piece Saddlemen seat looks even better.

looks don't gain comfort, Hardest seat made don't buy it if you have sever back problems & sever arthritis in the back ! This seat gets soaking wet you need a heated sofa seat to dry it out, still a crappy seat ives place saddle soar on it to soften it up left it in the hot sun 24/7 still remained very hard . Takes a rhino to seat on it to loosen up. If your selling your Harley, it is a great looking seat to help sell your bike. Not the solution for touring.
