- The modified 600bhp Subaru WRX STI built by Prodrive and driven by local hero Mark Higgins sets a new Isle of Man TT car lap record, hitting top speeds of about 170mph around the 37.73-mile circuit. I was kind of insulted that parts in the middle were completely out of order. Just show that main corners, some heli shots and some low shots, keep it simple.

Mightily close to Michael Dunlop's average lap in the superbike race, awesome.
Not if they were racing. Dunlop turned a 133.9 while slowing to enter the pits and averaged with two stops 130.685 mph. If Hutchy had pushed him, I bet he'd have been deep in the 134 range, maybe his postulated 135.
I've seen a few videos of Higgins giving journos rides and he makes a point to tell them the bikes are faster, and giving them credit to helping him go faster. He specifically mention Plater told him about a line to avoid the worst part of a jump that unsettled the car all the time.
Now it is slightly faster the Dunlop's 600cc record of 128.666.

Mark has only ever done 8 flying laps spread over 5 years or so. Pretty impressive 👍

Why is the sound on and off?
I'm not even close to this man's driving skills, and it's beautyful to see and hear, but still...this doesn't do it for me like the bikes do. Empty track, four wheel stability, rollcage...compared to dealing with other riders, riding on two wheels, and yourself being your own airbag. Still more respect for the bikers :)

It would be interesting to put Higgins in Sebastian Loeb's Pikes Peak car around the TT circuit, I'm sure he would smash the outright record with ease........
i totally admire mark higgins drive , fantasic, ithought we might see a 130 lap from him ,but what i dislike is the hype that subaru has givin this amazin lap,a world record ?yes it is but there is no competition, what would be cool is to let it open to other manufacturers, maybe a half dozen cars leaving at say 2 minute intervals, or more for one flying lap, then who ever sets the fastest time really has something to brag about .
when mike hailwood was alive it was mooted that he would do a lap in a formula 5000 car, but that was a long time ago, tony pond set an amazin lap in a stock rover vittesse many years before subaru got into the act .
dont get me wrong i think its a amazin thing that subaru have done but i think its a little one sided
editing was poor ... some of the audio didnt match video but i still enjoyed it ... amazing driver and prodrive need congratulating for an amazing build too

Didn't "Smash lap record" at all, it broke class record. TT lap was avg @ almost 134MPH
A car can only qualify to attempt a car lap record, nothing to do with bikes because not being a bike makes it ineligible. Still pretty quick though and there's more time to come from the car he's only done a couple of laps in it.

@@gizzync1525 What does that actually mean? You can compare the times as a set of numbers but what does that achieve? Most of the bike classes are slower than that car around there, a slightly higher spec car will beat Hickman's all time record. That will probably be next.
this is the first year this car has been here, with not a lot of development, once they've been here and done more laps this think will be getting 130 + mph laps , people forget the bikes are here a lot more and have more time to develop the machines

Dunlop's lap time was from a standing start, not a rolling/ flying start lap and not on an empty track either. still impressive for a car though.

yes it is. Very reliable apparently!
its probably the "tetra" radio , as used by all the officials on the TT course, its a secure digital system as used on the IOM by all ermergency services, and utilised during TT week as a main communication link to everyone involved in the running of the e event, from the C,erk of the course right through to the marshal points and all the travellimg marshals etc etc.

Around what Mark acchieved. The record for the Bikes sit at 133mph, It's a sub 17min laptime.
I think the record is just under 17min....so this is very bloody impressive.

with you there, I could edit it better, and I cant edit......although I do live on the IOM, pity they didnt speak with someone to get it in the right order, or sync the sound etc...poor show, at least the bike footage gets done in correct order so it follows the progress around the 37 miles correctly...!

I just looked at the bumps, I'm pretty sure an F1 car can be set up to handle that. And even if it couldn't go flat out most of the time, it would still be much much faster than 600 hp Rally car.
f1 is not designed for any kind of bumps. The front slitter,aero wings and mini wings are specially designed for down force as soon as you add bumps into to equation then it's a recipe for disaster. Have you never seen it when a f1 car gets lifted ever so slightly and it flips or takes off out of control. Don't get me wrong i like f1 cars but they are meant to stay planted on the ground.

The TT started of as a car race and Subaru put a lot of money into the TT so they can do stuff like this, Mark has only ever done 8 laps of the course at speed spread over 5 years or so and already done 128.730 in a brand new car. That's pretty impressive
