600bhp Subaru WRX STI and Mark Higgins smash Isle of Man TT lap record

- The modified 600bhp Subaru WRX STI built by Prodrive and driven by local hero Mark Higgins sets a new Isle of Man TT car lap record, hitting top speeds of about 170mph around the 37.73-mile circuit. I LOVE the silent moments. To me, It represents the focus a driver must maintain to ride the limit.
I didn't think this was possible but with an average speed of 128 mph this car actually matched the average speed of the super stock 600's. And the average speed of the superbikes is only 132 mph. That's incredible, I was not expecting that!
What is the cost of the car compared to a work’s bike?
100% more traction for cornering and braking
Still impressive but so are the bikes

But the car looked like it could go a bit quicker, while the bikes look like they're absolutely giving it 100%
The difference between 1st and 3rd on the super bikes is about 30 seconds, and this car pretty close to that pace. Amazing.

Asphalt jumps are so perfectly precise compared to gravel jumps
I have prodrive replica P11L springs on my gm5, and even with the kyb struts...it's unbelievable how balanced and more stable it became at all speeds. My dad rode in the car and couldn't believe how comfortable it was and how it handled.
I liked the audio on this it made it mysterious

Nothing on the bikes for me but well done to Prodrive and Higgins for putting on a great show. Awesome car.
Thats why he's the only driver they use on the very pacey or tricky driving sequences in the Bond movies. Lovely humble lad aswell...him and Ben Collins have done a fair bit a driving training with Special Forces both us and the SAS lads.

think that's a mix of turbo surge and wastegate flutter. I could be wrong not 100% sure how this car is setup
Big Hoyle Nice try, the "stu stu stu" sound you hear isn't the turbo spooling, thats the air going back through the turbo to keep the boost down when letting go of the throttle...

Umm Yeah! One does realise. It's a once in a blue moon event and has nothing to do with the actual TT.
And then Michael Dunlop went round around 42 seconds faster per lap! Scary!

Hopefully it won't be covered by flies. You can see in the 4:48 all the flies on the windshield. If you check Higgins twitter, there is picture where thousands of flies on the bumper.

Leob for me would destroy the record plus the record is bullshit anyway as Higgins is the only one to do it every year
Pikes peak isn’t anywhere near as historic as the Isle of Man.

At least 2 of the in car cameras had audio - who ever edited this either was extremely lazy or did not get paid. I hope we get a full lap from the front bumper cam but for some reason we never get that sort of thing, even though it should be an hour or so work and then just a dump to youtube. Oh well.
I wish I can drive that car on that course.

If only Subaru made a production WRX STi for the US market with a 6 or 7 speed semi automatic paddle shifter transmission, Id be more inclined to get this car.
