I'm an American Orthodox. I think it's kind of a shock for a lot of Orthodox here when they realize Russians are not all that religious, especially because we're constantly hearing about this big religious revival, churches being built, etc. for the last 20 years.
The soviets destroyed many churches and any religion was persecuted. If you visit Moskow today you will not have problems in finding opened Churches and monastries filled with prayers.
If you look up Wikipedia most Russians are Christian it's Russia's official Church Russian Orthodox so I was thinking there would be more Christians

@@thabithuwel2135 "why is everything so bad in this world" isn't him being ungrateful, it's a simplified version of the problem of evil. an argument which any religion claiming to follow a god along the lines of the abrahamic one still has to overcome.
it's basically: if god is all powerful, all knowing and omnibenevolent - why is there so much suffering, pain, violence etc. (just talking about that unrelated to "sin")? accidents, infants with terminal diagnoses, animal suffering, you name it.

Now these months later the is raging again in Ukraine The many new Fallen Innocents, a 1000 year old mafia family conflict of death & destruction, Viking vs Viking... You said it well "Mortal life killing to survive, Please be gentle to the ones that never understood " It seems the older people have kept their faith & had enough epiphanies, trials, judgements & seasoned tribulations in life to avoid the dissapointments & depression that younger people likely struggle with trying find or choosing some identity in a semi closed society with restricted access to todays global reality.
