  • Absolutely gorgeous evening! The foliage is starting to turn in the mountains of New England, so I took a quick trip after work over the rivers and over the woods to grandmother's house. Circled the house a couple times while they waved at me, and turned back. Fun to play with those elevation changes!
    Yes, I need to clean my windscreen. :-)

    The smile on Grams face seeing you fly over was priceless for me. Super cool!

    That's good to know. I like this JetExec chopper's spec except for the hour range, but keep hearing how difficult it is to get parts for the T62-32 engines built back in the 60's. I heard there were up grades in 2014, so if I got a JetExec kit, put out in 2009, it looks impossible to get whatever upgrades were made after that date.

      It should have over 2 hr range - it burns 15 gph with passenger and has a 40 gallon tank. There have been upgrades, and in fact I've been working on doing those upgrades for several others the last couple years. They are definitely easy to get, we just make them to order. Again, none of this ever went through the factory anyway, so nothing changed there when it closed.

      Sounds like the JetExec community is solid on sharing info and keeping everyone flying. I'm trying to get a handle on a fair price for a 2009 jetExec kit. It's suppose to be 30% complete, but after building several experimental fixed wings, I've found that most inexperienced builders underestimate the amount of time it takes to build certain airplane kits. But it sounds like this chopper kit doesn't require a lot of time since it's mostly a bolt together. His -32 is suppose to be a fresh zero time rebuild. No avionics. I didn't see any doors in the pictures. Kit has been in a hanger. Not sure how long jet engines can sit without needing replacement bearings etc. Asking 86, but will negotiate. I have many questions on this kit. Since it's winter now, my first question is, do these have an option for a cabin heat from bleed air? @@Aerohead

      @@ginginthing All good questions, and I have helped some people in purchasing or upgrading their ships in the past, so I'm happy to have a conversation if you want. Feel free to send me an email, AeroheadG8, at Gmail.
      For the heater, I think the most common is to use a Webasto or Espar or similar and just run it off a gallon of diesel - they run forever on that, and are thermostatically controlled and everything, so it works well. I haven't installed one yet, but I've been eyeing it for a while, might do it this year.

      Thx Aerohead for the reply. The next big hurtle is apparently, a helicopter endorsement. I have had a private license for over 50 years. Since I was an A&P mechanic maintaining a flight school, I got my license for the price of fuel, which was at $1.50/gal at the time or around 500 total. That's almost what these schools are asking for per hour of dual training in a chopper. With my current third class fixed wing, I would only need 30 hours but still, they should be able to retire off of one pilots student training. Are there any CFI's that train in these JetExecs or Rotorway recips, or use simulators to help cut down on costs? This kind of takes the fun out of flying your own experimental chopper, and may be a show stopper for me at almost 10k for a privates on a chopper. @@Aerohead

      @@ginginthing Yep, there sure are. I trained in my own helicopter, with a CFI in the right seat. They charge much less per hour than you'd expect a flight school to charge to use their helicopter. I can definitely connect you with some of them. @josephpriolo1514 is one of them.

    Thanks for the ride. Love that ship. What's your fuel burn with the turbine?

      @Aerohead  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks! With a passenger, right around 15 gph.

    Is there any factory help and parts for these with the new factory owners, RotorX? I'm interested in buying a used ship, but am hesitating on getting one because I can't even get RotorX to respond to any emails or phone call messages I've been leaving over the last two weeks or so. Might go back looking for a Mosquito.

    • @Aerohead
      @Aerohead  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah, unfortunately RotorX is currently out of business. The JetExec was never directly supported by them anyway, just the parts it shares with the piston version. There's talk of them changing ownership and coming back online but nothing concrete yet.

      @@ginginthing Of course. That being said, I was never worried for a minute when the factory closed, because it was never a part of my build or maintenance. In our experimental world, we all help each other and we're in charge of making sure it's safe to fly. There's enough of an active community to keep us all flying anyway.
