- After 8 weeks downtime waiting for some repairs to a part, I'm back to doing airport pattern work. Things are really feeling smooth these days, and I'm comfortable with the standard maneuvers around a Class D airport (other than my misunderstanding in the video...). I expect the next time I upload will be when I venture further away from the airport, or perhaps when I do my first solo cross country, which is the very last step before my check ride!

The picture in picture was pretty Neat !
And It all started at Bob's Cafe with Walt and Dave Domanski shown a drawing on a napkin by Don Hillberg and his Turbine powered helicopter RotorMouse
This was super fun to see in person.
Good going Adam! All the best!
By the way, watching this after, it was SUPER obvious that he wanted me to take off down bravo taxiway, but in the moment it was loud and I didn't understand. Go easy on me internet! 🙂
I most likely would have asked for a departure from the ramp but the way you did it is just as good for a training mission.
@Tom-zs6bb I do often do that now, my parking ramp is right next to that bravo taxiway, so depending on wind direction. But that first year I mostly stuck to the taxiway and runway directions. I know the guys in the tower well and they knew I was training, so if there wasn't any traffic, they would give me the runways.
@@Aerohead I have flown into airports at which the controllers seemed to think that helicopters should operate as if they were fixed-wing aircraft but I never understood the reasoning. That being said, the way you operated in the video was perfectly fine if you chose to do so. And if I didn't mention it before, I enjoyed your video.
@Tom-zs6bb thanks so much! I appreciate it! For me, having a good long gradual transition through my h-v curve when I was starting out was comforting. The helicopter was shaking out its first hours too, so if I had an engine failure on climb out, having the runway out in front of me would be a lot better than the trees next to the ramp.
Flying 101: Use clipboard and WRITE DOWN INSTRUCTIONS. Do not rely on your memory, that is why pilots are trained to use checklists. Best practice for ALL pilots.

Have u ever flown a heli ? Both hands are on the controls. On larger helis there are 2 pilots or have an autopilot.
Nice helicopter!
Thanks!
For a self-confessed beginner you did pretty well, I think.
Thanks! Have done a lot since then. I'm hard on myself looking back at these videos.
That’s a pretty chopper!
Thanks!
Did you have time in a piston RW or did you go straight into the jetexec?
Straight to the JetExec. I did also do about a dozen hours in the piston during my training though. But I started on the turbine.
Lots of guts fly that toy .. that altitude
Such a tiny cockpit.
It sure is cozy!
Is this Ed’s old ship?
No, I built this one myself, but I do know the new owner of Ed's ship.
@@Aerohead KISS no longer makes the conversion components do they?
@Tice Nits That's correct, they do not.
Terrified sensitive the controls. I can see that. You over do it ? You lose it.
This was very low hours for me. Take a look at some of my newer stuff, that smoothed out. :-)
Show.
