Keanu Reeves had a global hit with his action-packed movie The Matrix, and none of his movies since then really lived up to how amazing it was. That is, until John Wick rolled around in 2014. This action-packed shooter with a simple plot became a surprise hit and introduced the world to some awesome gun-fu action.
The movie does raise a few questions though! Like how did they manage to get the producers to get off their back about worldbuilding details and love interests? How does anyone feel safe at the Continental Hotel? Why didn’t Viggo stick around to make sure his men took care of John Wick, and why did John make a deal with Viggo just moments later? Also, why didn’t anyone Google Baba Yaga?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to John Wick! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Have you thought about making a pitch meeting where the roles are reversed? The boss guy writes the script instead and tells it to the script guy (for a really bad movie)
This should be the la la land one
and the movie would be Disney's 2022 Pinnochio
That would really work for movie where every aspect is geared towards some corporate gain
I think that for that bit they should swap clothes too
@@budgetbajur so not just actors?
Thanks for the love, Ryan❤️ I love to hear you’re still a one man team, it can be exhausting but it shines through in final product, keep up the great work on both channels!

LOVING JOEL IS TIGHT
"Making it hard to ruin this thing" statement by the producer means a lot
“You’re making it really tough for me to ruin this thing” love this line.
Right? Even Ryan has to admit this movie is damn good.
“You’re really making it hard for me to ruin this thing.”
And that would be the highest compliment I’ve seen pitch meetings give a movie, you know Ryan liked it when even the producer character can’t ruin it.❤❤❤
producer character? He is real. I see him on the TV
Dont worry, the sequels have his back.
I fully agree I love that first John wick film I own the first three and am seeing number 4 today
Actually walked out of chapter 4 last night
@@johnjohnson8669 Loads of other people did at my screening too. When the credits came down.
"You're making it really tough for me to ruin this thing," is the most perceptive joke in the bit. Well done.
Came here to basically say this. So, well done.
Seriously. I loved that one.
A moment for Lance Reddick, whose reserved performance did much to add to the dignity of the Continental and its mythology. R.I.P.
the pause, the face, the line, the delivery " okay some people better die for that" came out so perfectly
hope we get the 4th movie soon and a 4 movie compilation after that
This movie should have ended with the first one, tbh. There is just so much you can do with a dog revenge story

The dog moment is top tier, but the Baba Yega "how droopy are his breasts, just say when" is one of the greatest jokes you've ever made X'D
I exploded with laughter from the moment right after, where he so casually asks, "So what does the droopy breasted witch do next?" I just couldn't.
Such a simple easily preventable mistake that I am honestly surprised they didn't just simply proofread lol.
@@TextureOfCouch It was on purpose. He wasn't the boogeyman. He's the guy you sent to kill the boogeyman. They said that in the movie.
@@kj-marslander I get that they said the line you mentioned, but it was not in the context they originally thought in which it was said.

"We're going to keep that going up till about the high 70s"
"What Fahrenheit?"

That has to be one of my favorite jokes you've ever written, gets me every time
They did kill his dog.
Was about to write this exact comment 😂
Honestly "What does the droopy breasted witch do next?" it's one of my favorite jokes of all the pitch meeting 😂
I haven’t watched any of the John Wick movies, but when you said the Russians called him Baba Yaga, I spit out my cereal. As a massive fairytale fan, I know exactly who Baba Yaga is, and Ryan made it even more hysterical with the hand elevator going down his chest, “Just say ‘When’ so I know.” 😂😂😂
That was a baffling choice, they have nothing in common. I wonder how the writers came up with that.
@@petertapola8097 proper lazy research?
That shocked me, too. They had to have some people on the production who knew that. Did no one correct them?
I love that last part, it's one of the funniest lines.
Wasn't she the witch that rode a morter and pestle and had a hut with chicken legs?
The “fist fight with a 60 year old” had me bent over laughing so hard
The "Oh pow pow pow...pow" gets me every time. Ryan you're hilarious, keep up the fantastic work.
I lose it every time I hear, _"Well, okay then!"_ 😂😂
Came looking for this comment 😂
Oh, changing the catchphrases to gun noises is tight!
The face when he hears that the dog was dead is STILL literally the funniest thing I’ve ever seen today
And then the Doggy! At the end 😂😂😂
You laughed?
It was also good acting and timing! Lol
is there a best supporting actor award for youtube video?
Neck and neck with his reactions at the Twilight Pitch Meetings: "You know this makes things worse, right?"
From what I’ve heard, there was some major reticence from the studio toward killing the dog, but the creative team stuck to their guns and were like “No, without that John is just some guy flipping out over his car getting stolen. The audience is gonna think he’s a psychopath. But if his dog dies, everyone instantly connects to John as the hero because of how much they hate the bad guys.”
(Also, I REALLY love the behind the scenes look into your process, and I hope you keep doing it!)
"Let's bring his dog back though. He's recovered after a costly treatment. It was all a dream. He's okay. The bad guy missed; people miss all the time. He visits an ancient wizard lady who revives the dog but it costs a part of John's soul. The dog was also trained in gun fu and only pretended to have been shot but really he dodged the bullet. Keanu was in the Matrix, right? So maybe it was part of the simulation?"
"... Are you done?"
"How do I manage to sell this movie to children?"
"You don't."
"But... but money though. Hey maybe the dog wasn't a dog, it was a decoy."
"No."
"A robot. John rebuilds it. It was undead the whole time and he's a necromancer -- the Baba Yega thing?"
"Sir, lets just try to make this one exclusively for grown-ups because if they like it, maybe they will want more of these."
"A hologram! We could at least get a PG-13."
"No."
The "powpowpow" catchphrase is still one of my favourite jokes Ryan ever made 😂
......pow
@@YourResidentPersonWhoDoesStuff that's the most important one, to me lol
I loved the John Wick pitch meeting because it's such a contrast to the others, with it basically being, "Stop trying to touch my story, it's brilliant already."
Yeah. I could tell when I first watched it that he actually really liked it. What with the "you're making it hard for me to ruin this" joke.
Frankly, the real pitch meeting might had been like:
- OK, so people better die for this...
- Oh don't worry sir they will.
- John kills for 1,5 hours while his dog died?
- Yes.
- I'm absolutely OK with that. What are you standing around? Greenlit, founded, get rolling!
No matter what crap’s going on in my life, watching Ryan’s pitch meetings makes me smile, and quite frequently, laugh too.
Yeah I also am taking a crap while watching this
Genuinely, I have the same reaction. Always lifts my mood
Oh, laughing quite frequently is *tight!*
I usually only watch ones for ones I've seen, but sometimes I'll watch pitch meetings for movies I've never seen because I can learn about the movie and gather enough context clues and I just like his style of humor!
Don't worry about all the "crap" in your life. There's always help. I'm here for you, and let me tell you, you'll make it if you stop being a terrible person.
The dog reaction plus the "Wow wow wow" replaced with " Pow pow pow" was EPIC
I have to agree, that slow transformation from giddy happy to "someone gotta die!" was great!
Alot of someone
The fact that Ryan does all the work from writing to editing what is probably the best show on CZcams is beyond amazing.
Ryan’s a real one.
Ryan is the best ❤
Thats what happens if you dont aim to be a corporate YTber with a super tight schedule and tons of employes, but actually care about the stuff you do. xD
One might even say it's...
...TIGHT!
I met him once and asked if it was difficult to do all that. And he said...
"It's super easy! Barely an inconvenience!"
"Somebody better die for that"
"Oh don't worry they will"
This really is the perfect summary of the movie.
That look on producer guy's face after being told about doggo murder is still perfect.
Thanks for everything you do, Mr. Ryan.
I'm still looking for a Highlander pitch meeting.
Just the original first movie, though.
They should have made only one!
i'm still waiting for a primer pitch meeting :o
Boost for Highlander.
The one he did for No Time to Die was great, too.
Definitely seconding (or rather thirding) Highlander!
More classics please, and fewer current ones (I often haven't even seen yet)!
This I think is one of your best older meetings. "You're making it so hard for me to ruin this thing" is an amazing line.
I've seen the pitch meeting for John Wick a few times, it's probably my favorite so far. The look on the movie producer's face when he finds out that the dog dies & his reaction still makes me laugh.
Hearing Ryan switch from normal speaking to doing the Pitch Meeting “oh”s was truly a gift 😂💜
Watching rayn saying oh, oh, oh is tight.
It's honestly remarkable how iconic so many of his mannerisms are now
Have you ever had someone from the cast/crew/production team reach out after you release a pitch meeting about their movie/show?
Edit: Except Shang Chi
This!
We're definitely going to enter an era of writers who are thinking about the Pitch Meetings and Honest Trailers as they work on their scripts.
@@EmperorSeth We can only hope.
Probably Shang-Chi since Simu appeared in one video. Pretty cool.
I do entertainment content on a much smaller scale that he does, and have people from productions reach out to me a few times a year for various things. So I am sure he gets easily a couple per production
These revisited pitch meetings really give Ryan the chance to explore his creative side. In this case, he had time to draw a dog.
And he better not have destroyed that dog artwork...
I love how Ryan included the background scritchy-scratch sounds of drawing the blue doggie whilst his 'John Wick' Pitch Meeting's audio played in the foreground. Exemplary attention to detail!
Gotta love how polite Producer Guy is when he thinks Screenwriter Guy is pitching vehicles. He’s a good guy.
Something that was pointed out in a video I saw just a few days ago. The dog that John takes at the end of the first movie you kind of have to look close but that dog was Marked to be euthanized the next day so John didn't steal somebody's dog who was at the vet or whatever for care it was a dog that was about to be put down which makes me love that character all that much more ❤😁
Absolutely, this was the best Pitch Meeting. The dog moment was 100% a defining moment. This Pitch Meeting was the initial one that I could show my mother after she watched John Wick and now she loves your channel and work and can always pick out your thumbnails and say "Oh! Let's see The First Guy To [Use Chopsticks or Get a Haircut or something]!"
I love how in this one, the producer and the writer are fully on the same page the whole way through the pitch. John Wick really just did everything right.
I love Joel Haver, especially his animations.
I love that they never bothered to correct Babayega throughout the four movies
That was one bell that could never be unrung.
Like John Wick redefined it lol you grow to just respect it in the context of the movie
To be fair, there's never a scene where they show John Wick's bare chest...he might have droopies.
@@jarink1 LOL!!! Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read that or it would definitely have come out my nose.
When Ryan started explaining about the head tilt, that was so uncanny to see him switch to the character of Producer Guy so effortlessly.
Producer Guy's transition when he hears about the dog fills me with joy every time. Good man, Ryan! And now I see you mention that very moment in the end :)
love the drawing of the dog!
1. Are there movies that you want to do a pitch meeting for but feel as if you have missed the the opportunity because of relevancy?
2. Have you ever considered doing more older movies or TV shows from the '90s?
Having a crossover with time travel reporter guy would be amazing and it makes my brain do the dopamine..
Ryan's ability to do speedruns of movies with great charisma is immaculate
He makes it look super easy.
You misspelled 'tight'
Don't you mean " Tight " ?
@@creopictures honestly, it's barely an inconvenience to him.
@@creopictures Super Easy. Barely an inconvenience..
Ryan is so good at heaping just the right level of humorous scorn on plot contrivances and illogical series of events that each movie deserves.
I am one of the many who consider this my favorite Pitch Meeting! Producer Guy's reaction and line when he learns the dog is killed, plus the takes on the catchphrases were especially funny. 'Pow pow pow, pow!' had me rolling! Last Christmas I played this on my phone for my family, and even not knowing anything about Pitch Meetings and maybe not even John Wick, they thought it was hysterical! Please keep up the great work.
"You making it really tough for me to ruin this thing" always crack me up, no matter how many times i rewatch this lol
The “Pow, pow, pow… pow!” Gets me every time 😂
1:33 - 1:55 Is absolutely one of my favourite sequences from any Pitch Meeting ever.
Also the "Doggy!" right at the end.
This has always been one of the strongest Pitch Meetings, along with "Cats," and a couple of the "Twilight" ones. Thanks, Ryan, for another great reaction!
The fact we didn't immediately get a John Wick 4 pitch meeting really shows that it must have blown Ryan away too much for him to find any errors. Which is very understandable, it was incredible!
That Dragon's Breath sequence 🥰
So its not utter garbage like the third ?
Ant man 3 must have blown him away too, since he made a pitch meeting revisit on antman first
@@kingplunger6033 jw3 was good tho
These films are ludicrous garbage.
JW 4 is BRIMMING with errors and plot holes -.-
One of my favorite pitch meetings of all time.
My first time seeing this Pitch Meeting. I can see why this is people's best loved one!
4:08 "Pow pow pow... pow" is my new pitch meeting favorite quote
This is by far my favorite one. I watch it randomly all the time. Not even for the dog, it just has the best opening lines out them all. Too funny. Been waiting for you to reload this one
When Ryan answers how many people do all the scripting, filming, editing, etc at 7:20, he points at himself five times, which means that the work is all done by him and four of his clones.
Which pitch meeting took you the longest to make? Which was the easiest? Really enjoying these Q&A’s!
Good question.
I bet the easiest (without counting the watch of the movie/serie) is Velma, he didn’t even had to wait for it to finish
I agree, his reaction to the dog being killed was a universal human moment. I'm not even a dog person and I was like, yup, we gotta kill everybody now.
6:45 Favorite moment in all of Pitch Meeting is the Frozen one when he asks "An entire castle made of ice?" "Yup." "Well where's she going to POOP?" I laugh every time and show it to everyone who hasn't seen it.
Reaction at 1:35 - priceless! "People better die for this."
I’m definitely in agreement with this pitch meeting being one of my favourites. That moment after being told the dog died was perfect. Captures the shock and utter desire for vengeance perfectly.
And it works because there’s an attempt “to ruin it” by adding too much information or a love interest and yet there is push back to keep it just a great movie.
Thanks for pointing out that absolutely ridiculous thing about John Wick’s nickname. As a native ru speaker from Belarus, that thing absolutely killed me. Especially since Wick also supposedly from Belarus and his name is Jardani Jovonovich, but literally no one is called like that here, ever.
And also the fact they didn’t even manage to put a stress correctly, as it should be bAba yagA, not YAga.
I like how subtle it is when the pitch meeting is talking about a movie thats actually great rather than a hot mess. You have plenty of jokes still but somehow it leaves you still wanting to see it for yourself.
“You’re making it really hard to ruin this thing”, is still MY personal favorite joke ever from Pitch Meetings.
QUESTION TIME:
1. Is the Emoji movie your most hated movie for pitch meeting so far? if not, which movie is it?
2. What pitch meeting you've made so far are you the proudest of?
3. What makes you choose a particular film over other films? Is it popularity? I don't seem to remember a Pitch meeting for any horror movie yet marvel and DC are both fully covered
Have a great day!
You have Pitch Meetings for the Halloween franchise
I think The Happening is technically a horror movie although it sounds pretty silly
IT, A Quiet Place and The Nun all come to mind, I could have sworn Birdbox got one too. I suppose you could consider those more action then horror though?
@@Heroshand i was thinking a bit harder modern movies... you know... conjuring, sinister, annabelle, insidious, hereditary, la lorona... blumhouse/A24 production... those films are packed with stupidities and plot holes
No question - But I have to say: Cats the Pitch Meeting has always been one of my favorites. It just boggles the mind that this movie was made, and the Pitch Meeting really brings that out. The seductive shoulder movements always have me rolling.
I love them all, but Cats is unbeatable.
Very awesome. This is probably my favorite pitch meeting he's done, too; seeing him actually like the movie by being 'unable to ruin it', and the 'kill the dog' moment, just made the video so satisfying and fun. The other pitch meeting I love, but I can't remember which one it is, is the one he shows off his kitty in.
Thanks for your moral love and support I really appreciate you mine fan.
Loved these Pitch Meetings, Ryan! Doing Hollywood a favor, and a super hard, completely inconvenient job for them.
How is he doing hollywood a favor
@@jameshill4589 he's making them look like a bunch of fucking dumbasses with their lack of originality, creativity, and logic

Ryan is truly a one man army
Bro this will always be my personal favorite. All the jokes were spot on, the way the story was woven into this short was perfect, and John wick is such an incredible movie and you even exude that through the short obviously outside the few hilarious plot holes. Still kills me after the 1000th playthrough! You're the man Ryan George!
Holy crap man I thought you had a whole team behind you how are you not exhausted like all the time?! Surprised you still work under screenrant tho it sounds like one side clearly has a better deal in the relationship lol. We love you and your stuff man stay awesome
I think it was also funny to see Producer Guy’s smiling, “Everything is okay and TIGHT!” mood shattered completely when the dog moment came. It’s like even he’s not impervious to how hard that moment hit.
This really is a weird job and I liked the doggy picture, thank you for being such a funny dude and entertaining us!
Lmao that facial expression changed when you heard the dog got killed was PERFECT! And then the timing of the "Ok some people better die for that" was perfecter!! 👍👏
I absolutely love so many of your pitch meetings, but your reactions from the Breaking Dawn pitch meeting is probably one of my top favorites. Everything from the "it's just a potential reality" to "explaining Jacob's, thing with imprinting."
These older pitch meetings were so freaking good!!
never ever EVER apologize for that dog. He’s a good boy… just doing his best
My brother and I just saw John Wick 4, and I had to watch the pitch meeting for John Wick again, and it was like the YT algorithm read my mind and had this video on the front screen when I opened up YT. The John Wick Pitch Meeting is my favourite Pitch Meeting. Happy to hear that I'm not alone in this.
The dog drawing's pretty cute if you don't focus on the eyes and the snout too much and at the same time. Looking at one while ignoring the other still keeps the overall dog looking pretty cute. But, yeah, that combo definitely has Freddy vibes 😂
I love when he revisits his videos, I rewatch them all anyway, but this is kind of like watching a movie with director commentary turned on! Also "Pow pow pow... pow." 😂😂😂
I'd love to see pitch meeting bloopers. With both characters reacting to the mistakes to make sure it doesn't make any sense.
Always hoping you get to doing a pitch meeting for the Death Note movie. That movie was absolutely made for Pitch Meeting... and if it wasn't made for Pitch Meeting, I really don't want to know what that monstrosity was made for. Anyways, love your work as always! Excellent work, Ryan! ♥♥♥
I imagine it would have a very similar tone to Dragon Ball Evolution, with both the Producer Guy and the Writer Guy having idea whatover of what theyre talking about but still going though with it cause its a popular product.
Its always nice to see how Ryan does his thing. A peak behind the curtain to see how the unhinged magic is made.

I’m really enjoying these revisits to classic Pitch Meetings! It’s like watching a DVD movie with the director’s commentary, except for the talking over the whole thing to the point where you want to slap the director even though some of what he says is interesting. Keep up the fantastic work!
That was the first pitch meeting I ever saw and the format completely amazed me. It's parody, critisism, fun facts and plot summary, all of this in only five minutes.
"Some people better die for that," was my ring tone for a short while after this originally aired.
4:02 I particularly enjoyed this bit for the way it subtly diverges from their normal personalities without truly leaving them behind.
The first Pitch Meeting I saw was actually the Casino Royale one, in which it partly takes place in the British wing of the studio. I like those off the wall random divergences from the normal script.
Your style of comedy is just top notch, you consistently make me laugh. Thanks for the entertainment.
I was absolutely elated when you switched up your tag line to "Pow - pow pow pow.....pow"
Absolutely genius!
Developing your comedic style by working within the constraints of a small green screen is tight!
(Also I agree that Producer Guy's six-second pause during which we see him take in the information about the dog, immediately followed by his call for retribution, is one of the best PM scenes of all. So thanks for mentioning that so I didn't have to.)
*Pitch Meeting with its recurring jokes is genius-level proof that the secret to comedy is TIMING.*
Thanks, Ryan!
(And the ADstronaut is the funniest way to be sold at on the all of the utoobs)
I love that your enjoyment of John Wick shined through in the Pitch Meeting.
Our love for dogs is so primal and deep that someone said "let's make a movie where somebody kills some guy's dog, so he gets pissed and goes on a murder rampage," and every human said "yeah I can see that, that tracks, yes, make that movie now."
John Wick 1 is basically the perfect movie.

Hi Ryan! Please do a Pitch Meeting for the Room! I've been asking for nearly THREE years!
And that's a nice dog picture... Shame something were to happen to it!
Question 1: What’s the most fun you have had making a pitch meeting?
Question 2: If you weren’t a CZcamsr what job would you want to have?
Question 3: When filming do you film producer guy and screenwriter guy separate or do you switch through characters?
I have always loved watching you. You have always make me smile and laugh. Thank you. Loving you is super easy barley inconvenience.❤
It still makes me laugh so hard when the producer guy finds out that the puppy gets killed. The slow fade of the grin, blinks. Serious face.
"Ok, some people better die for that."
"They will!"
"Oh good. People like dogs better than humans..." A true statement indeed.
I've seen these Pitch Meetings all over the CZcams reaction channels... I've seen a few here, too, but I wasn't subscribed until today. Ryan, you are one of the funniest people on CZcams. This is more than a talent, man, this is legendary comedy. I'm not exaggerating at all. Not relying on hyperbole is tight!! These are ON, all the time. You're always ON. I've never seen a Pitch Meeting video and thought, "Eh, that one was a bit of a dud," because NONE OF THEM ARE. Holy shit!
I have ONE critique. And honestly, it's highly trivial, it's not even really a critique - it's very, very nitpicky critique, but that's how hard I had to look to find one, so please don't take it as a criticism. This is a VERY low batting average, here. Because that's how high the bar actually is with your content.
I just really wish there was a throwaway line in here about how the Continental's doctor is played by Randall Duk Kim, who also portrayed The Keymaker in The Matrix Reloaded. :-)
Obviously, he's the guy who sutures John's wounds in JW1 and JW3, before heroically ASKING to be shot...twice, despite the fact that the scene makes it very clear that this man stopped the exact SECOND he was supposed to. That's some rough shit, but you know what the real tragedy is? That adjudicator didn't give a single fuck about the doctor.
I hope Chad Stahelski gets to direct HIGHLANDER
There can be only one
Thanks for all that hard work to give us some great material. Love what you do, keep it up!
