Well, all that players came from the great Yugoslavian school and strong Yugoslavian league, and many of them were U-21 world champions, playing later for the best clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Juventus, Parma, Lazio, Napoli... Also, the war just gave them motivation, so the success was quite expectable.

I remember when I was a kid my mother bought me the blue Croatia kit from this world cup. I would wear it all the time, it's still one of my favorite jerseys.

Croatia was the best team of the WC. They actually played better than France in that semifinal. If it wasn't for Boban's mistake who gifted the 1-1, they would have gone the final. Football is cruel most of the times.
Ćiro (the coach) also made a mistake for not putting Prosinečki in the game from the very beginning, not to mention that Bokšić was injured and didn't played in that World Cup. Bokšić was a world class striker, just like Šuker

What is the relation with the merit of winning a WC ?!
First, there are French overseas territories in Africa since more than 500 years, thus there are black French people. Maybe these players don't really represent France because France is mostly white but the fact is that France isn't white people and Europe only. So stop with this type of racist comments which shows your lack of knowledge about France.
Second, Croatia had the easiest possible course. In 2014 they failed in group stages because they faced Brazil and Mexico, if this year they faced them they would have surely lost. I don't know why they've won your heart, if you wet your pants because a little team reach a WC final by beating weak teams that's your problem but don't say that they deserved more than a team who have beaten a great team like Belgium.

Croatia, like Holland have talent that perform at the top level. They will win a World Cup, probably not in my lifetime or yours, but I think it will happen. They are world class. In 98 I went for France, but Croatia was the team that showed the world that with heart anything is possible.

As non-Croatian Fan, this is a great memory while I was college kid in school . We woke up 3am in the morning to watch Croatia's quarter and semi-final. We called him the man who can play the violin with his left foot.
My college team mate bragged that he can scratch his ear with right foot, when playing football.
They beat Argentina 3-0 today, possibly knocking out the likes of Messi and co in the group stages of the tournament. Incredible team!!

Back then, we've had so many leaders in that team. Each one of them could pull the team to the victory if needed: Boban, Šuker, Prosinečki, Asanović, Bokšić, Stanić, Jarni, Vlaović - even Bilić and Štimac as defenders and Ladić as goal-keeper - all strong personas. Almost all of them renown coaches and football figures now. Today, who is of the leading kind? Modrić, ok. Who else? No one else. That's our problem today. I wish them luck. They're going to need it.

France barely made it in the finals due to their early loss in the last world cup. The fact that the final was in "Stade de France" brought another level to the game. Homecoming sort of speak. Then Zidane scored 2 times with the head which was insane to think about Brazil, the current champ. France went insane that night.

Nobody knows why except Blazevic himself?! If Prosinecki played we would probably be World Champions...When he played with him against Netherlands for 3rd place we won that match and INHO Netherlands was the best team on that tournament..

Had Šuker jersey when I was a kid, lost it.. But couple of days ago I found one from Zvonimir Boban & bought it. Simply the best jersey we ever had!

Brazil was weakest ever and in Finals and against that team we could won it all! Boban was injuerd and he was begging Blazevic to change him for Prosinecki but Blazevic didn't want to hear about it... After that Boban lost that ball 16 meters in front of our goal and Lilian Thuram scored 1st and minutes after his 2nd goal that were and still are only 2 goals in his international career...

Compare to how small Croatia is - our football standards are world class, don't forget that our u17 national team has beaten France and Spain recently, so this means for us that our time is coming. Also current Croatian national football squad is absolute power, we're football nation - and you won't find on this planet that so small country has so respectable football players and so great football tradition in just 20+ years since its Independence. That has nobody achieved it yet. Greetings.
