Learning the insurance here in Australia was such a change from in the US. Have lived in several states, but moving here was DIFFERENT.
And thank you for the shout out! You have some great subscribers.
FYI, we women who are not 20 something and refuse to be draped over a bike nearly naked… struggle to build our channels. 🤷🏼♀️
Just keep doing what you’re doing Robin !
👆👆👆
Folks, please subscribe to this great channel.
You are most welcome, Robin. I hope my small channel helps you out a bit. Stay the course. Your channel will do great things. Eric
Love Robin!! Been following here for 3 years now and love her stuff!!!
Thanks for the insurance reminders Eric.
I’ve been lucky. So far, I’ve just added new scooters or motorcycles to my existing policy. And none have been over $140 a year. I’ve been with the same company for 53 years. Once or twice I’ve shopped other companies who said they can give lower prices. But no one could come close. Advantage of a long-term business I guess. And no tickets or accidents.
Liability was my big concern. I have an umbrella. And I self-insure physical damage to my bikes. Different than my cars. And as you know, You can’t get medical coverage for yourself, at least in Pennsylvania. So if you’re right, you should have a good health insurance. Unless the other driver is at fault. Then you’ll be covered by their medical coverage.
I guess the lesson is as you say, do the right thing. Get good insurance. And save yourself the aggravation. And look before you leap.😂
Great info Eric. A few years back when I added a bike, I found that by upping my coverage, the price actually went down. I talked to my agent about it. They told me, that the demographic that carries high insurance, was lower risk, than the demographic that doesn't shop for or buy higher coverage. Good reason, just like you said, to check the cost of upping the coverage, people might be surprised at the answer.
You completely get where I'm going on this video. If you knock to see if somebody's home, you may find amazing results. All it takes is a little homework. Safe travels on your journey.
I'm so lucky. I'm in that grey area between e-bike and motorcycle. I keep up with traffic, but don't even need any documentation. No registration, insurance OR licence required. I pay absolutely nothing to ride except for original purchase price and six dollars a month in electricity. lol
You have managed to dodge the whole system! Well done, Randy!
This was very interesting, VA insurance rules are stricter than NY which surprised me (the suspension of driver's lic). We do have to turn in plates for lapsed insurance though, but there is a short grace period to do so. Credit scores absolutely can help or hurt insurance premiums. Highest costs for motorcycle insurance by far that I've ever heard of is in British Columbia, gov"t insurance, and they don't even kiss you first 😳🤣. Good stuff Eric 😁👍👍
I hear in Canada that it's terrible to have insurance. Today's topic was just a few thoughts on what I've learned over the years.
What a great and informative videos that was Eric!!! I have FULL coverage in all my vehicles period, not because I can afford it but for the piece of mind it gets me. My plan has even gear replacement if I let’s say skid down the pavement and gets destroyed… Shopping around and do reasearch OUT OF YOUR time is worth your money…
Roughly $600 for two bikes… Good credit, home ownership NEVER ticketed( never caught🤟😜🤣🤣)!!
Hopefully, this video saves a few bucks for a few. A boring topic till you need insurance. 😉
Nice way of explaining the insurance issue Eric....hey you better let that turtle out of the freeze bud....hes turning a little blue 🤣🤣
Come to think of it, he was turning a bit blue! Thanks for stopping by, brother.
A very interesting video about insurence in the state - especially the part about if your insurance lapses it takes out your licence too. Here in Australia, you get your licence. then you get your insurance and whatever else you decide to get. Good Video Kraken!
It's an odd topic that varies so much from state to country. I hope my thoughts help someone in their travels. Thanks for commenting.
In Florida it is nuts you don’t need insurance on the motorcycle unless you making payments. Fl does the same on the insurance reporting on cars to the state, no insurance no license. I pay for full coverage on all 3. There is a fellow vlogger here in Florida that had an accident with no insurance, he is going to be paying for years.
That's insane, Peter! Wtf! I'm glad you can afford the right insurance to protect you and your family financially. Thanks for commenting.
Awesome advice Eric, you should always source insurance on a bike well before even buying it so you'll have a idea of your monthly billing.
I had a viewer who went out and bought a sportbike I did a walk-around on before checking for insurance quotes, he was shocked at the prices he was getting before leaving the dealership, on top of that he's in his early 20s.
Poor kid 😢
Ouch! This is exactly what I was talking about. I feel sorry for the young man.
Great advice! My insurance went up after moving from California (Bay Area) to Memphis. Uninsured drivers make it more expensive for everyone else
They really do. I would have thought Memphix would have been less expensive? 🤔
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures me too! I was shocked. I am insured with USAA. They tend to have better rates anytime I have checked. They said the losses in Memphis are larger due to uninsured motorists
That's a beautiful bike. Yeah, here in Nevada, our rate went up 40% 😡 Great video👍🏼
40%!!! What the heck caused that to happen? Thanks for stopping by.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures
Well, the problem is they started handing out driving license to anybody who crossed the Border🤷🏻♂️ So now the increase of accidents in Las Vegas is ridiculous.
Insurance in Australia is a rip off. Great shout out. Another wonderful informative video Eric. Thankyou for sharing
I'm just dusting off a few old thoughts to share. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yeah, Eric. It pays to shop around. I recently reviewed my insurance policy and found a full coverage insurance at a reasonable cost and it even included Road Side Assistance 😊 It's interesting to hear regulations in other places. Awesome shoutout. Ride well. Cheers
VA is a ball buster. I'm kind of glad they are. I'm happy to hear you have solid insurance with roadside assistance. When you need it, you need it!
Great tips on insurance coverage Eric. Pays to shop around too, some places give multi-discounts depending on how long you've been insured with them and/or discounts if you have coverage for other things other than the bike. I carry full coverage on everything. Chances are 9 times out of 10 the other person may not have insurance, and you and your family may be left holding the bag.
A little bit of homework can save you some serious money. I hope this video helps a few.
Added my two motorbikes and vehicle on the same policy, got the cheapest rates doing that.
That's a good point I should have mentioned. if you have multiple vehicles with the same insurance company, you usually get a decent discount. I hope you are doing well.
Robin is good people, and those tips are GOLD, my friend!
I always shop insurance before I buy anything - with 2 wheels OR 4. Some people just look at a car/truck/bike payment and think that's it - but there's insurance, gas, repairs, etc. that have to be factored in. Virginia is one of those weird ones where you can be self-insured... Maryland AFAIK doesn't have that.
Thank you, John. VA is not playing on this issue. I'm trying my best to educate folks on what is in front of them.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures You're providing a valuable resource, lemme tell ya!
Insurance in Canada (mainly in British Columbia) is extremely expensive and something that annoys me is the fact the driver’s records have a minimum consideration (other than speeding tickets) in regards the premiums. They basically go by C.C.s and your pristine driving or riding stats don’t matter. In BC the insurance is basically managed by the province so we have little wiggle room. One of the reasons our premiums are so high is due to the mandatory 2 mio 3rd party liability. Yes … 2 Mio ! and they often want us to increase to 3 Mio as an option ! (I often say …. If I cause a damage that is more than 2 Mio with a motorcycle I will be dead, so no thanks) Great video amigo
Based on other Canadian's comments here, your insurance system sounds like a nightmare! I was just dusting off a few random thoughts that might help someone.
Damn VA is not playing around! I'm not really mad at that, I'd rather have that than someone uninsured hitting me and leaving me holding the bag. Good topic!
VA is rough! They are NOT playing around here. Thabks for stopping by, Ben.
Thankfully the GTR was insured. 😊
It sure takes the pain out of an incident. Im glad you had coverage.
I’m going through this now for home and auto. Insurance can be difficult for an old house due to the replacement cost of the materials used to build them way back in the day. I have Progressive for the bike. Seems to be the best rate for me. Very good info Eric!
Thank you, RJ. I appreciated the support.
Phenomenally helpful video! Thank you! It sucks that DC only gets 3 major companies that insure motorcycles in the district, even Harley does not!
That's crazy! I never knew that you good folks were hampered to only 3. We need to go for a ride soon!
Solid info Eric!!!! So many dont even consider this. I price insurance for all my stuff every year.
Thank you! This issue is overlooked by so many folks.
Solid intel Eric . Motorcycle insurance here in Ontario is extremely frustrating to deal with. It's very expensive and they have taken seasonal coverage off the table for some reason which is ridiculous as our winters crush any hopes of riding all year. So now we are forced into higher cost coverage .Its criminal in my opinion . Side note... another wickedly good thumbnail
I'm sorry to hear this about Canadian insurance. I have to say, there sure hasn't been any good vibes coming off the decisions being made in Canada of late.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures Oh man, you've got that right !
It's like the clowns are running the show .
Interesting to see what difference there is with insurance in different countries. It even changes here between states in Australia.
I have so many questions about riding in Oz when I get there. It's a whole different can of worms to ride in another country. And thank you for commenting.
Good job, good advice. A life time of research and experience all wrapped up in 13 minutes. Now, to go and find Robin!
This video ran a little long. But, I had much to talk about. I hope it helps someone in their mc travels. Thanks for commenting.
Great commentary on bike insurance Eric it sure pays to shop around. Robin is a gem I agree she should have more subscribers 😎👌
Just sharing a few dusty old thoughts. I hope Robin's channel takes off!
All good points. And i appreciate you input on this topic. Im trying my best to educate folks on the art of motorcycling.
Kinda weird Allstate hit me real high and it made me leave them I was so mad. And I was with them for years
It's happened to me a few times over the years with Allstate. I have no allegiance and will switch to another company at the drop of a dime. Thanks for stopping by.
Erick
Robin is originally from Texas😊
Thank you! I did not know that. No disrespect intended.
Virginia seems really tough on no insurance violators. I kind of wish other places took it as seriously. All of the incidents that I can name were with uninsured motorists (in Georgia). They always seem to get away with it. In my one motorcycle wreck (where I received a broken back) the wreck was not my fault but in the state of Georgia, if you hit someone from behind it is your fault regardless of what they did (with rare exceptions). Luckily all I had to do was pay for the scratches on her bumper so she could continue on with her practice of stopping in the middle of a highway to talk on the phone. That way so she could take out more motorcycles. She never even hung up to call 911, someone else had to do that.🙂
That's insane! VA is not playing around here. That said, we still have our fair share of uninsured motorists. Be safe my friend.
Great tips. I've also found that if make one payment anually I save a couple hundred bucks.
That's a tip I should have mentioned. Great call, Jerry. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Very good and valuable information Eric. Somethings i never though about.
Glad it was helpful! I sure hope it gives a few folks something to consider when getting insurance. Thanks for stopping by.
Think mine on the TriGlide is around $430 a year for full coverage.
That's about what I pay for my Electra Glide.
Good video Eric. I'm lucky as my daughter is my Ins. agent and I get 24/7 service. cheers Dave
That's awesome, Dave! You're lucky to have a daughter help navigate the insurance road. Thanks for watching and commenting!
We pay yearly here in Canada and we only ride 6 months a year, it’s anywhere from 900 to 1500 a year! Size matters has nothing to do with experience.
Super sport bikes are cheapest to ride! Friends I know who’s ride them pay 700 to 900 a year on a 500 cc.
We need to do at least 2 million liability here. Credit doesn’t affect our insurance they cannot do credit checks here! I am with Teachers Insurance Plan but meh only save a bit but I keep my house insurance separate that’s a trick here in Canada do not bundle!
It's so odd hiw Canada vs. the US handle business. I'm sorry tobhear it's so expensive for you. Thanks for stopping by, Gloria.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures We are use to it, Canadan 2nd largest country in the world and we pay highest Cellular rates too!!! It’s just the way it is!!!!
Thanks Eric.
Thanks for stopping by, Larry.
Way to go Eric, great informative video!!!
Thanks for watching! Just dusting off some old thoughts.
Great advice as always, thank you
I hope it helps a few folks out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
QBE insurance in Australia is good my R3 was written off $350.00 my innsurance & excess never went up first accident ever, im in my mid 50s a DSP pensioner. selling my MT as i bought an ecconomy bike a Kawasaki Z 125 Pro
the extent of my permanent injuries, if i drop the MT for any reason i may not be able to pick it up, & if i can its gonna hurt me, ive found a buyer for my XT 250 a 2016 toning down later in life.
I'm sorry to hear this. I had back surgery about 2 years ago. If I go down hard, it will most likely be my last ride. So I ride with extra caution. I sure hope you enjoy the Z125. It's a great bike.
You’re leaving out the most important number….. Congrats on hitting 5000 subs! 🎉
Thank you, Tom! A blind squirrel found a nut! 😂
My full coverage insurance on my Road Glide Limited is pretty cheap. Now if i get a sport bike, i don't even want to know. 🤣🤣 Nice video Eric 👍
Don't get a sport bike! 😂 I'm glad to hear your insurance is cheap up your way.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures Yeah, I wouldn't get a sport bike. I probably would be able to ride it all hunched over. 🤣
Not bad price for insurance but I understand what you are saying when you compare it to your HD. We shop for car and mc insurance every few years. We are pretty lucky in PA that our rates are relatively low when compared with other states....
I'm glad to hear it's cheaper in western PA. Thanks for commenting and watching. I really do appreciate you. 🙏
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures 💜🤗 as we do you!
good stuff brother !!!
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed it.
Shopping for bike insurance here in the UK it is slightly less complicated than what you have where you live but getting a good deal can be hard and frustrating. I can bundle all my bikes onto one policy which can make things cheaper but you have to be careful as sometimes it isn’t. We also have to list modifications to the bike like suspension, exhaust and any tuning as this will again affect risk . I fitted new shocks to my streetglide and the person at the insurance broker said it was a performance modification so I needed to pay $300 more . I switched to Harley’s own insurance and they didn’t add the extra which was a bit odd as HD insurance is the same broker as my old one just with a different name . On the subject of DUI if you are prosecuted and found guilty in the UK the fine (normally about $1000) and the ban 12 months and upwards depending on your level with a extended driving test a possibility insurance gets a bit tricky. I have known people who are paying out in a month for third party what most people pay for fully comprehensive for a year.
That's sad that they tax you for an upgrade that makes.you a better rider. Shocks make the bike perform better and keep you out of harm's way.
Wait, there is such thing as motorcycle insurance? Hahaha. Wow, the laws regarding bike insurance seem excessive in VA. I think credit reporting agencies should have never been allowed. The old black list books, that were deemed unconstitutional, did the same basic thing as those credit reporting/personal information gathering agencies do. I think it is very sad when a company is allowed to charge someone that is already struggling financially more because of it. I'm glad I would pay less, but it is not fair to others. It should be based upon whether a person pays or not. Don't pay your insurance premium? Then cancel the policy, but don't charge the person MORE when they are already trying to hold their head above water. Ah the greed of so many American companies and the politicians whose hands are in the pockets of those companies. Good information, Eric.
I think the message here is just to be aware of your laws and the ramifications. Every state is different. Thanks for stopping by.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures That is very true, each state has very different laws on many things. That is a good thing.
Good info as usual
I appreciate the kind words. Just dusting off some random thoughts.
I’ll go check her out and subscribe 😎👍
Thank you for taking a peek! 👀
I struggle to understand how it is legal to sell a policy that doesn't cover the full third party loss (fleet coverage policies are a different ball game). Does that mean if you have fully comprehensive, your insurance covers and claims back? Do you lose no claims discount because of this? Do they sell a policy to cover the shortfall in this case?
Your question is complex and I'm not an expert on insurance. If you are in good graces with your insurance provider, they normally offer one grace incident. If you have two incidents, you will lose you no claims discount.
Insurance varies widely from state to state. So much, that it can be polar opposites from one state to another. So I really can't comment much, as my knowledge is based for VA only.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Eric
Eric how do you like your ninja 400 RR trying to get my hands-on one like hen's teeth can't be found do a review on? The bike please.
Jay. I freak'n love it. I haven't had this much fun on years. I'm going to shoot a video about where I bought it and how much I paid. Look for areas where you can fly and ride home, train, bus, etc. Expand your radius. I do it often. If I can help, hit me up!
