    I had a roof "repaired" using this product 3 years ago and I'm sitting in my bedroom with water dripping through my ceiling. There is a 5 year warranty from the company that did the work (Mr. Roof Repair in Toronto) and I have a call in to them. I'm wishing now that I paid to have the roof repaired by replacing the plywood and flashing.

    Nice to warn that this stuff lasts only about 2 years and to get a real roofer. My roofer put down a failed torch-down. Next this really cool "new" product with no fix. I'm here to learn as much as I can. This stuff might give me options. Get the leak fixed while I'm trying to find a good roofer. I'd like to find an honest one too, but that might be asking too much.

Did I miss or you didn't say how much time it needs to cure ? Anyway, since it works underwater, it will work on foundation when I install the vents and cover back with dirt.
    On the other hand.... I can't find it locally so I'll postpone the repair a little longer.

    Here's a serious tip for all type roofs where underwater repairs are needed , sweep away any lose gravel , next pour a circle of masons mortar around the repair area , the mortar will create & watertight dam & you can " bail " out all water from the leak area , spud & dry the area , 5 course the split/puncture in a 100% clean & dry environment , after finished you shovel up the mortar into a garbage bag , or come back when it's dry & pick up the cured mortar & toss in garbage , the mortar trick will work when water is a foot deep , I've done it many times .
    Oh btw Karnak makes good products , I remember back when they used to tape quarters on the underside of each bucket lid , probably before most roofers time but it was a sales technique that made roofers want to open a new pail of mastic constantly , that would of been in the late 70's & early 80's era .

      Why would you suggest tar on any non tar roof....

    • @michaelledford4751
      @michaelledford4751 Před 7 lety

      Detu Maki because when water is pouring inside the building the main concern is stopping the leak ,not a material reaction that takes weeks to happen ,no wet repair is permanent to begin with so weather it's a pvc,BUR , Hypalon ,EPDM , Coal Tar pitch etc a true repair is required in dry weather .

    • @detumaki
      @detumaki Před 7 lety

      Michael Ledford pvc and tpo can be welded in water below 2", which your roof would never pass ibc if you had that much water. not that it doesn't happen. but still, tar? i mean I've had a gut shovel water back enough to reduce the pound to a workable height just long enough to patch. there's so many better ways to stop the water
      bentonite (works but... well yeah you're using kitty litter), self level silicone which works in seams and small holes and is neater and won't cause chemical decay which you have to cut out, but it won't work well on gashes. you can take a probe on a membrane roof that is anything but adhered and hook the probe through a hole, lift the membrane up enough to dry and work with, you can take eternabond which won't root any above mentioned roof except tpo and sticks even wet, and sticks quicker, easier, And cleaner if you're willing to spend the cash. you can use butyl based caulk like liquid nail, water cut-off, mastic seal, etc and it sticks under water to the wettest surface (apply spit to finger for this trick), you can even take a piece of small metal cut 2"bigger than hole, line both sides with mastic Tape then use stitch screws with washers. this will temp attach the membranes with a seal that will be water tight for at least a few days (more if you hit deck but that's a situational thing) and none of these rot the membrane, except the world's least chemically resistant product tpo. and heck metal is way cheaper. plus plastic cement would have to always be cut out and replaced on every roof type but tarand some foam. that means metal (corrode finish), tpo (chemical deterioration), pvc (deplasticizes it), hypalon or cspe (chemical deterioration), epdm (dries and cracks), urethane/silicone/acrylic/non-tpo thermo based roofs (dries and cracks). i mean heck 9-1-1 roof patch is cheaper and will soak up water. but honestly if your concern is just cheap shotty one shot fixes for one product fits all, eternabond works on all non-tar roofs with none of the mess for about as long if not longer than tar and in all cases could just be patched over and buried, unlike tar which has to be cut out on the above mentioned roofs before permanent patching.

Ive got a flat roof and a leak into a hand made shed with no slope so water stays on top. I dont know where the leak is so im planning on just sealing all at where all the sheets end.

    In your experience with rolled roofing, is the leak typically the seams? I have rolled roofing on porch roof. It’s leaking near the corner where lots of water runs off. I put a tarp on it abt 5 months ago but it has finally evaded the tarps ability to keep the water out. I’m going to fix the entire roof eventually but for now just need to patch it. Should I just cover all the seams with this? Of course if I see any obvious single spots I will apply. But again, are the seams usually the culprit?

      +Doug Guertin Ive been using Ultra 19 for 7 years in water on a daily basis for repairs. It just takes a skilled trowel to press it in. use a large lump, apply pressure to push the water out to get the initial stick, and then smooth it out to make it look good before applying membrane. It is difficult, yes, but a skilled hand and a strong trowel has no problem.

      I fear that after so many years you've never applied underwater. That is something we learn in less than a year where I'm from. There's so many tricks. On a light pool you can push back water and quickly spray primer to push out residual water, then even when the new water comes in your pooky can work. There's heating up the plastic cement nice and hot so you can put it down and it actually keeps water back, aiming you trowel it in right i suggest a margin trowel myself.

      @michaelledford4751 Před 7 lety

      +Detu Maki for the price vs performance increase if your using white elastomeric coatings it's worth the cost to buy Garland Corp product called white knight .
      If you have access to a Tremco product called sheeting bond that shit will work at the bottom of a swimming pool ,there is no roofing product made that's half as sticky as sheeting bond ,it's nasty stuff .

    • @detumaki
      @detumaki Před 7 lety

      Butyl based elastomeric and urethane based coatings eventually peel and trap layers between the "membrane" of the coating and the roof, causing tar roofs to prematurely age and become damaged. Or, worst case scenario, completely separate and fly off. Karnak 501 is a Acrylic Based coating which will actually bond to asphalt. My apologies for accidentally putting 502 down before, I've had these nasty coating jobs on y brain for too long and got all jumbled up.

      19 Ultra is the only asphalt roof repair cement that can be considered a "permanent repair" under water. It's only available in black.
      However, Karna-Flex (a product that comes in white) can be used to make permanent repairs to dry asphalt roofs (as well as TPO, PVC, Hypalon, EPDM, Metal, Concrete, Spray Foam), as well as just temporary (!) repairs to applicable wet roofs. For more information feel free to visit our website or contact us directly!

      If the 19 Ultra is being used to stop water entry as an emergency repair it’s acceptable not to worry about the trapped water until conditions allow to make the proper repairs. At that point, water must be removed and the wet material replaced.

      RSG Roofing Supply Group AND ABC Roofing Supply both say they are in your area and, at least where I live, sell Karnak brands. I caution against using this product on anything other than a tar roof. Bitumen it is officially called. Using on a PVC, TPO, EPDM roof may actually damage your roof and cost you more money in the long run. Example: It could have been patched with a 6" patch, you put this tar on it and contaminated a roof that was NOT tar, now a 2'x2' patch is required so be sure you know what kind of roof you are repairing before applying a repair. Also keep in mind that if you are going to fix it this way, it is not a permanent repair. It is a VIABLE repair, yes, but it will never be a permanent one.

Consult a licensed roofer soon.

    I've bought several tubes of this product. On the side it says do not use with EPDM or PVC (and I think one other thing). I would like to know why I can't use it with those things and how I would recognize them. What's the worst that can happen? What do I use with EPDM or PVC?
    Also, I would have asked this question on your website but there is no e-mail contact form or information there. I don't want to call and wait I'd rather just send a question in five seconds via e-mail and then get a reply some time later. So I think you should allow people to contact you via e-mail.

    • @detumaki
      @detumaki Před 8 lety

      +RestBreak EPDM, PVC, and TPO roofs are non-asphalt compliant. it dries out the membrane causes them to get brittle and crack. You're talking about taking a potentially 40 year roof system and reducing it to 3 years if you slap asphalt. If you have a roof warranty, guaranteed void. EPDM looks like rubber on your tire. PVC and TPO are typically white, shiny, and flat. Run your hand on it. Is the membrane almost completely smooth? it's not modified. Modified, even "Smooth Modified" has a rougher surface to it then any EPDM, TPO or PVC I've ever seen.

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes you are right. That is because this is a "Wet OR Dry" cement. The ideal situation to apply any roof repair product is in dry conditions over a clean surface. However, it has additives in it that enable it to adhere under water without a problem. The wet application is for emergency conditions where water is getting into the building, and inventory or the building itself is getting damaged.
