    Finally! Someone who knows what they are talking about and shows you how to actually use the product the proper way. Much thanks for making this video. I fixed a restaurant roof for a friend once (after a roof expert fixed it & it began leaking again after a week) with a similar, but thinner elastopolymer type stuff. It looked & spread a lil thicker than paint but the roof has not leaked for over a year now. I bet this stuff will last MUCH longer than the stuff I used. ;-)

    Not a fan of elastomerics but for some roofs that don't really need to extend their service life i guess it is an OK fix. Our roofing company has used pretty much everything out there over the last 25 years. We use only one products after 8 years of success and not callbacks. There is a Liquid butyl rubber made by epdmcoatings. What we like about it is that it does not need a primer for any of the roof types we have applied it over that goes for metal, BUR, epdm, foam but NOT silicone. also it is a one coat application so we close much more business with this product because we come in as the lowest bid! It is a solvent product so primarily the reason it last all the years. Cheers

    I recomend to Always Use Base Primer, and Embed the Polyester in between layers with Base Primer, Dries Quicker and then Apply The Coating.... I LEARNED to ONLY Use Silicone VS Acrilic Base...on any Restoration! Good Luck People!

    Thanks for the information. Is this a global product of only in the U.S.?We have some similar looking products in the U.K but they might be acrylic. Is acrylic good enough or should I be looking for something better?

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 8 lety +3

      +Skill Builder - It depends on what you are in need of? Traditional acrylics are not for waterproofing but rather they are for heat emittance and reflectivity. The SureCoat roof coating is a hybrid coating and for waterproofing as well as heat emittance and reflectivity. To-date, SureCoat surpasses all acrylics on the market after in service for three years on the roof, as it remains free from cracks, splits and tears. We have acrylic videos on this channel so you can see what an acrylic coated roof looks like after 18 months-3 years. Everyone we have inspected is in bad shape because low-sloped roofs have little ponds and it causes the acrylic coatings to peel and crack open. Acrylics have too high of a perm rating for low-sloped roofing.

      This is why I'm not convinced that your system is the best option. If the area has to be scrubbed this hard and has to be dry to apply coating

I noticed that the roller missed a lot of cracks and it explains why water was still getting in

    I'm honestly concerned about elastomeric over tar, every time I've seen this done it causes the coating to prematurely age and either crack and separate or completely delaminate and come off. No base or primer.... so now I'm curious what the warranty would be on this? Yikes.

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 7 lety +8

      @Detu Maki, As with most surfaces prior to coating/painting, prep is key. Especially over tar, metal or single-ply roofing materials. SureCoat was created because of the common mastic, acrylic and silicone coating failures that plagued the industry, delamination and leaks! Since before cool roofs were cool, roofers and consumers alike have been attempting to use coatings to solve roofing problems and water intrusion issues they were never intended for and this is based stickily on their chemistry (not what the salesman or distributor tells you). I have a Definitions Key that I can share with you if you would like a list of what properties to look for in a coating. (You will find this info on the PDS - not the brochure.) The SureCoat roof coating system used in this video includes cleaning the roofing material with SureSkrub, a bio degradable roof detergent, tough enough to cut thru the grease on restaurant roofs. SureCoat has excellent adhesion without a primer. We have not had a roof where SurePrime was required for the seven years I have been here. If cleaning is not possible, SurePrime may be an option. The resins for adhesion are manufactured into the SureCoat single-component coating and is combined with cross linkers that change the molecular structure of the coating; creating a cross-hatched pattern too small for vapor moisture to permeate and hook-like teeth to bite into the roof surface, increasing the tenacity of it's adhesion compared traditional roof coatings, paints and mastics. Lack of UV stability and waterproofing ability are the two key factors that cause roof paints, coatings and mastics to fail prematurely.
      Furthermore, not all coatings are the same in their chemistry and resins, grades of resins, etc. and therefore not one coating can fix all things roofing... Many are only maintenance coatings that you can expect to peel up every other year at max.
      SureCoat has been being successfully used over tar, gravel, metal, slippery single-ply and other surfaces without delamination in climates all over the world. I am happy to send you an adhesion test kit which includes the SK roof cleaner as well as a small bottle of the SureCoat roof coating and a strip of Poly-Mesh to test the adhesion of this system over your roof. Depending on where you are located, you may have to wait until Spring to be able to test the single-component original formula used in this video. (We do have an alternative coating for waterproofing in temperatures as low as 40 degrees.)
      As with most coating and paint manufacturers, there is a material defect warranty of 1 year. If you would like the security of a 10-20 year renewable leak-free guarantee, or in the case of a SureCoat Roof System Warranty, a guarantee that covers leaks even if there is ponding water on your roof for 10-20 years, the SureCoat Roof System must be installed by a SureCoat Seamless Single-Ply Approved Contractor to specification in conjunction with the warranty checklist requirements.

      @Surecoatsystems  Před 7 lety +2

      @ Journey Is The Way - The fire rating is as good as it gets with a Class A. There are 25 colors available for a topcoat if white is not desired. 0The darker the color, the lower the solar reflectivity. Your are correct in that black is the worst for where you are. We do not make it in black. Bright white is the best. SureCoat is the best white roof coating because it not only reflects UV but also keeps 93% of the heat out of your building. Yes SureCoat be used on the entire roof and more often than not it is used to refinish the whole roof. This system is very popular because it lasts for 10 years and it is waterproof in ponding area. There is nothing else for flat and low-slope roofing which actually performs under ponding water so SureCoat seems to be very common there in FL. Please feel free to reach out to us (ask for Monique) at 877-823-7873 for more info or a quote on materials delivered.

    I'm about to replace the current existing roof with a new energy star roof using energy star asphalt shingles. I want to apply Elastomeric roof coating over the shingles,but that is not recommended by Wikipedia,and multiples web sites. Some home owners had that done because in Miami Florida Power had paid to have this done on certain houses to lower their energy bill,but years later the homeowners found out that elastomeric coating applied over shingles shortens the life of the roof instead of extending the life of the roof. So my question is when using energy star asphalt shingles can the Elastomeric roof coating be applied to the underlayment, or on top of the roof deck before the shingles are applied? If so since the Elastomeric coating would be underneath the energy star shingles would there be any benefit in making the roof more energy efficient in terms of lowering the power bill like using roofing insulation will?

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 7 lety +5

      @ Sam Enigma, No applying SureCoat or any other elastomeric reflective coating for that matter, beneath the shingles will not provide any R value as insulation does.
      However, SureCoat would add a waterproofing membrane under the shingles by doing this but not energy savings. I hadn't heard that coatings can shorten the life of the shingles. How are they explaining that this is happening and determining that the premature failures of the shingles are due to the elastomeric coating application? The only thing that comes to mind is that shingle are suppose to stay breathable in a sense and perhaps the coatings used in Florida were contributing to trapped moisture which in turn can create mold issues and eventually substrate rot in a wood or metal deck...?
      I would be grateful for any factual/case study links that you could send me. Be careful not to accept "blogs" as facts when it comes to tips, DIY, etc. There is a lot of information online but its not all true. A lot of what roofers and manufacturers write about is filler stuff for their website. Here, we provide educational info as well as cutting edge waterproofing technology.

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 8 lety +2

      +lou ezzie - Whether or not this is the right waterproofing system depends on the existing material on the porch. If its asphalt or wood, yes. If there is an existing coating over concrete, then we would need to talk about it. Yes it will work in NJ as it is made to take on extreme freeze-thaw conditions without becoming brittle. However, you can not do the application until the weather is good. It should last 10 years before requiring a maintenance coat. We recommend adding silica sand for slip resistance in traffic areas but yes it can be walked on. Please call Monique at 877-823-7873 for pricing and to see if we have a contractor in So Jersey as per your online request. Thank you for your interest and questions.

      +brofun Yes you can use the 4" or 6" poly mesh and embed it in the coating at seams. Then use the wider fabric around your HVAC units curbs. That is typical with single ply membranes. They dry out and start to separate at seams and flashings at 6-8 yrs. Yours happened a little early.

      You better make sure that there is no moisture or water under that membrane. Coating over it will only trap the moisture in and cause failure of the substrate, blistering, and potentially more seam failures due to flexing at the joints. Someone should moisture test that roof first and then decide if it is a candidate for re-coating or repairs. Unfortunately, by the time the water works through the system and shows up as a leak, it is already to late. Re-coating or installing anything over a wet roof is a waste of money. I have done many, never one that is wet. danjmbat@gmail.com

      +Isidra Person-Lynn - Thanks for viewing. All surfaces to receive a paint or coating must be prepared for the application. This is true for roofing, walls and floors. A power washer is not always necessary but the roof has to be cleaned somehow to ensure adhesion of the materials.

    • @emmielimon2363
      @emmielimon2363 Před 8 lety +1

      +Isidra Person-Lynn You can also make sure the tenant moves anything important from the leaking area if they haven't already. A waterbroom and shop vaccum or leaf blower will dispurse puddles while cleaning so there is no water to feed the leak. It takes more than what we need to do to clean the roof to make it leak inside during the process. It is good to address this up front. Most put it in their proposal that water is used to clean the roof and to secure any personal property. If there is a bad leak precautions can be taken inside for any water intrusion.

    this damage appears to be from a roof low spot where water is ponding.. the coating appears to be an elastomeric roof coating. if these 2 things are the case, this repair probably wont last long. elastomerics arent good, they will wash off after repeated rains, and are completely worthless if water is ponding. im speaking from experience with 3 different trials using elastomerics
    i dont know what membrane is being used here but it may help the elastomeric last longer. maybe the video owner can comment on this. .
    1. fix the low spot first.
    2. use torch applied modified bitumen or hot mop to make permanent repair that will last 10 years.

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 8 lety +6

      +makesumwake - Thank you for the comment. Elastomeric is only a property of a coating. Majority of coatings these days are elastomeric. Elastomeric only means that it has elongation. This video is for a roof system, not just an elastomeric roof coating. The SureCoat roof coating in this video is waterproof. It has an impermeable membrane once cured unlike acrylic elastomeric coatings. The membrane (Poly-Mesh) is for added tensile strength. this roof system has a 2800+ psi. SureCoat's perm rating is .0025. Perm rating is the rate at which moisture will pass through something. There is not an elastomeric that has been around for longer that a three years that has a perm rating lower than SureCoat. SureCoat was made for roofs that pond water. There is a testimonial video on this channel where the contractor went on a roof that had a SureCoat repair that was 5 years old, he swept the dirt and shows a close-up of the roofing membrane. No tears, still leak free. I know its hard to believe because there are a hundred acrylic coating manufacturers that have mislead the industry into thinking that their products would fix commercial roofing and gave the coating industry a black-eye. The proof is always on the roof. We have this system on millions of feet of flat and low-sloped roofing performing just how we say it does. Email info@surecoatsystems.com and ask for the PDS & Definitions Key if you would like to compare for yourself. Thanks again, take care.

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 8 lety +1

      +makesumwake - Elastomeric is only one property of a coating. It means its ability to expand and contract. This material was made for roofs that pond water. This system stops roof leaks in ponds. It has to do with the perm rating and the poly-mesh reinforcement. It does not ever wash away unless rained on before it cures. It does weather, as all roofs do, whether Single-ply or a coating. It wears in mils.

    • @danbeau9404
      @danbeau9404 Před 5 lety

      As with all liquid based products, this is not a good idea on a roof with lot of foot traffic for repairs and service of rooftop units. Foot traffic and tool dropping problems will cause tears and ruptures in the system and lead to leaks that the manufacturer will not cover. I have been at this since 77 and I have seen it all. Some say you can install footpaths on the roof, but that is in addition to the original roof cost and you better get it in writing that the areas under the footpaths are still warrantied. Also, I have done a few roofs and Never have roofed over an area with ponding water without replacing the existing wet area and somehow re-inforcing that area or adding positive drainage. There are EPDM roofs on for 62 years and still there. Roofs with very low pitch, heavy foot traffic, or the potential for ponding, should never use liquid applied systems.

    Acrylics needs 24 hr dry time between coats, not 10 min? Substrate needs to be completely dry. You also need 3/4" nap roller. You need to put a minimum of 2.5 gal a square to embed fabric, plus top coat with another 2.5 gal a square? You're application process is wrong.Repairs need a 3 course patch? Yes, you can paint the roof after this process but you may not want to. SureCoat is available in 25 colors. Paint will change the overall solar reflective properties and the paint will eventually peel off of the SCRS as paint is breathable and waterproof. SureCoat is similar to a rubberized roofing membrane once cured so it is impermeable, flexible and UV stable unlike paint and therefore will thermal cycle at a different rate, lasting much longer than paint. Can i use this on a plywood deck in a boat? then apply a carpet on top of it?

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  Před 8 lety

      Good morning Bradley, The SureCoat Roof System as shown in this short video can and will adhere and waterproof the plywood deck of your boat. However, we would not recommend that you apply the SCRS direct to the plywood because even reinforced with the Poly-Mesh (which a 2800 psi tensile strength) the expansion and contraction at the joints in the wood deck are a concern as it may cause the SCRS to tear/split st some point. We always recommend a "slip sheet" of sorts such as the cheapest peel and stick granulated cap over the plywood and then the SCRS. Please call us at 877-823-7873 to discuss further or for a quote. Thank you! - Jamie Barnett

  • @jamesearly729
    @jamesearly729 Před 10 lety +1

    Thank you for this video. Very good promotion. I see this is recommended for flat roofs. Why would it not work on a gable roof?
    The coating looks like it would spread more like honey versus pancake syrup such that it seems it would stay relatively put despite any slope.
    From looking at my roof, it looks like 60 degrees slope from the roof's ridge going towards the edge of the roof. That is, if one had a large enough triangle of 30, 60, and 90 degrees, the 90 degree angle would be at the bottom of the crawl space or just above the ceiling in the living space, the 60 degree angle at the ridge, and the 30 degree angle at the edge of the roof where rain gutters would be. The building is in California where rain does not count like it does in Florida but, as is known by many, there are many fires and earth quakes in California.
    Can this coating resist fires and earthquakes?
    Found one leak on the roof, by a vent, about 5 feet below the ridge line and about 5 more leaks near the edges where the roof is about a foot or two beyond the building. Do not have the cash to re roof but need to fix the leak now for getting different insurance on the building. Need different insurance to be able to rent out one unit of this building. Struggling to hold on to this place.
    Any recommendations on repairing this roof?

      +Glenn S Hydro stop requires a cement type base, which I never knew until a Hydro Stop contractor came in and told me about the correct application. Then there is a foundation coat that the fabric is embedded in. It is a resin stained green. Then the white acrylic topcoat is put on. SureCoat is all waterproof, is one coating throughout the system so all the properties are in the entire membrane making it all waterproof, UV stable, and sustainable. It can be cleaned and topcoated every 10, 15 or 20 years depending on the sytem and the warranty renewed. So it is different.
