What kind/type of membrane did you use on the video. Any particular brand to use?
This is a granulated asphalt cap sheet. You can find it at any roofing retailer or big box store in the roofing section. No particular brand, but ask the sales personnel what they might recommend in-store.
I live in Pennsylvania where can I buy your products?
We have many distributors throughout Pennsylvania. You can find our list of distributors on our website under "Where to Buy". Be sure to call them ahead of time to make sure they have the product you are looking for in stock before making the trip! See this link: www.karnakcorp.com/store-locator
Nowhere near as good as two layer torch on system
This is for emergency repairs. When it comes time to put a two-layer system, you can always overlay that on top of this (as long as it is clean and dry, so as not to trap moisture and risk blisters in the future).
I’d have 5 rolls of torch on before you had one done.. far too slow
We're always here for the feedback!
I have a very small building I'm renovating with two fiberglass (rolled) awnings out front. The awnings are custom size and color and would cost a lot to replace, and be a huge hassle to take off. I want to just use fibered asphalt roof coating on it after patching to seal and resurface it. I know this sort of stuff will stick and hold well because I've done my similar small awning at my house a decade ago and its still good. However, this only comes in black, and this place needs to be brown or it will look trashy. Is there any way to paint over it or color it?
Unfortunately our coatings are not designed nor are tested for this application. As a result, we cannot recommend your proposal as a solution.
Going to do this on my 4-plex rental next month!
We love to hear it!
Nice! Our aluminum coatings stand up to the test of time and weathering
And yes I do have the wrong product, thank you
Which product do you have, and which do you need? Feel free to call our Technical department for specific questions
How can I get the certification?
You can visit www.karnakcorp.com, and under the Resources tab you can find both Karnak University and also you can contact us for the Karnak Qualified Applicator program training. We look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks for the video! Love your products. If a leak is coming from both the base seam + the vertical seams, would this also be an ideal method? Maybe using an entire sheet of mod bit cap sheet across the entire wall, creating essentially a new wall flashing over the old?
Yes, using an entire sheet of Mod Bit across the wall would work great in your situation! Please ensure there are no masonry cracks on the wall or coping that will allow water to get in behind your new membrane. Feel free to call our Technical department for specific questions.
What's the difference between this and the 97?
This product, 298 Alumin-R is highly rubberized and wears much slower than the 97. The 298 will last around 10 to 12 years, while the 97 lasts around 5 to 7 years before recoating should occur. The 97 has fibers in it, while the 298 does not. Hope that helps! Feel free to call our technical department if you have any further questions at 800 526 4236.
@KARNAKroofcoatings I'm looking to patxh my roof with Karnak 19 ultra.. how long do I have to wait before I apply the karnak 298 coating over it?
Is not beautiful Man
Hi. This mod bit adhesive can be put straight on metal garage roof? Also, can it be used without anything else - just as matiarial for gaps covering. Preiviously our garage roof connection parts were covered with melter tar, that lasted for about 50 years until surn melted tar into nothing.
Unfortunately you cannot. This is just an adhesive for roof membrane to roof membrane. Always be sure to follow membrane manufacturers requirements when installing. Feel free to call our technical department with any other questions.

whats the alternative to this at the big box stores? obviously this is local brand and close on weekends and probably doesn't like to deal with DIY that only going to buy a bucket or two. and why every other roofing video have annoying loud music. like who tf goes"u know what i'm going to dance to this roofing video". or a DIY sweating balls standing on a roof goes "thank god for this loud music so i can stand here longer in the sun to hear wtf he's mumbling"
We do not know the alternative at big box stores, but if you visit our website at karnakcorp.com, you use our Store Locator feature to find a distribution center near you.
No no. I would have use the round tip trial.Feather edge into a perfect circle
That's another option!
If I do this on the job site I’m getting kicked off
We'd be very sorry to hear that...
We have a torch down modified bitumen granulated flat roof. It's about 6 years old and has lost a lot of granules, so more and more of the black rubber is getting exposed. Once we have cleaned all loose granules and debris from the roof and cleaned it, can this product be applied to our modified bitumen granulated flat roof? And will the application of this coat, slow down granular loss?
Yes, you can apply this product (Karnak 97 Aluminum coating) to your mod bit roof. It will slow down the granular loss when applied. A better solution would be to apply our 220 Fibered Emulsion first before the coating. This will end up with a longer lasting, better result.
Well done. After working as a contractor for 20 years I'd suggest to add : heating the patch before placing down on the fibrous tar. The membrane is made with a very thin layer of plastic and while this patch is good, heating it creates an even better bond. The roof will leak way before the patch ever does.
Great point!
What level of flex does this allow for in terms of weather/atmospheric changes?
671 Karna-Seal provides 400% elongation in a variety of hot and cold weather types, throughout weather changes
Am I able to use 19 ultra instead or would this work better?
This product (Karnak 66) is as true mod bit adhesive, and will work better in this example than 19 Ultra.
What kind of tape was removed? Thx
This tape is a foil-backed butyl tape.
Pls where is your office
We are located in northern New Jersey, give us a call if you need anything!
This was very helpful thanks
Glad you found it helpful!
i brush away dust in water ,it has water repelling properties yes its called oil boj job look at how to move the water away will help.
Thanks for sharing this insight!
Great, if there was some place to buy this. Small size like a quart or so.
You can find this at many local roofing distributors, but unfortunately it is not available in a quart size.
Is this my best option for a flat roof with BUR sheets
It's a great option as an aluminum reflective coating! But a better performing one would be our 298 Alumin-R.
I would stay away from any coatings that are rubberized, they form a rubber skin layer and it traps moisture between itself and the roof surface. You end up with bubbles as well.
In our experience, this is not true as long as the roof system is fully dry before application. This is why we recommend a moisture survey before coating.

Vamos a intentar amigo. Gracias por apoyarnos.
Does it harden like asphalt? Or does it cure like a rubberized skin ? Like karnak 229?
Asphalt coatings incorporate a softer melting point asphalt than traditional hot-applied asphalt. Therefore, when they cure, maintain a somewhat soft, ductile, and pliable surface.
How long does it last?
This application is for the installation of a new roofing membrane, so it will last as long as the membrane on top lasts. While we do not manufacture or sell SBS roofing membranes, most manufacturers will give a warranty of 10 to 15 years depending on different factors.
I'd like to use this in a mural I'm painting. If I used a clear coat anti-graffiti coating, would it adhere okay? Also, would it dull the shine on the Karnak?
Interesting! We have not yet seen this application. We recommend you try it first on a small inconspicuous section of the wall as a test area. We'd love to hear your results.
What do you recommend for a low pitch metal old metal roof on my house. Upper MI so we get -30. Will this help snow slide off better too? Thanks.
Our 404 and 501 system would work fine as long as the slope is over 2/12. This means, for every 12 inches the roof moves horizontally, it goes down at least 2 inches.
You Know It!
Hope you found this helpful!
Looks like what I need for my black paper flat roof that gets so hot by evening time the heat works it was thru the roof and heats the house up more at night.
Yes, this product will definitely help with that!

Why do you add 16 oz of water to the mix? Is it to make the viscosity of the product higer to make it easier to apply?
Yes, it is to make the product easier to apply, but by lowering the viscosity.
how long it take to dry ?
All of our asphalt-based repair products will skin over in 24 hours. However, once 19 is applied to the clean and dry surface, it could rain within a minute and will not wash away.
That guy gets his salsa from New York City.
He also gets his pastrami from there as well
Awesome job..very well explained
Glad you liked it!
Good video
Glad you enjoyed! We're only a phone call away if you ever need technical advice
is this a danger to air traffic?
No, it is not. We have coated airports with both aluminum and white reflective coatings with great success.
Bucket of bull...😅
More like Karnak
You want a rounded tip on the trowel.
That's another option!
How long to cure time where it doesn’t come off and how does it work winter time around 55degres
When applied, it is waterproof immediately, but reaches its ultimate adhesive strength in 28 days.
@@KARNAKroofcoatings28 days??? Torch down is instantaneous!
Doesn’t waterproof it?
No, this is a reflective coating only, with no waterproofing properties.
I did a lot of such repairs for thirty years, it's all in finding where the water is getting in to get the right spot.
That's definitely a major part of it!
Does it have asbestos?
No asbestos in this product, we are happy to report!
How long this repair is going to last before it starts cracking?
2 years, if you're lucky.
That would depend on many factors, including weather, frost/heave, underlying substrate, and building movement.
Outstanding
Thanks!
