    The way the card is worded, to me it seems more likely to do damage by how many cards and not the cmc of exiled cards.

      Came here to say his. Valakut Exploration says nothing about the CMC of the card. Reading the card explains the card :).

      I feel sorry, DJ is so excited with the card that I almost wish it was as broken as he thought. Unfortunately, it's per card, not CMC.

    • @hermodnitter3902
      @hermodnitter3902 Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, but I think the card is badly written, as it can easily be misunderstood. I had to stop and think, and read it again, because instinctively it felt like it should be the cmc. Could write "damage equal to the number of cards" or something instead.

      Yeah, it is weird wording. It deals "that much damage". Well - how much? - the answer - "if there are cards...". That's a broken sentence.

      I love the card, due to the fact i dont permanently lose my card that i exiled and that if i chose not to play it, 1. goes to the graveyard instead of losing it forever in exile and 2. It does damage to each opponent per card, so its not a waste.
      This card is always doing something is how i look at it.
      Love your videos and keep up the great work!! ^_^

    Some additional praise for Valakut Exploration: it’s also card advantage that uniquely helps advances the spaces in where Boros card advantage operates: The ramp is mostly about making sure you have lands to play every turn, the new Verge Rangers design learns to work alongside top deck manipulation which works with this. It feeds for Underworld Breach. Perhaps Whites/Boros space for card advantage is not strictly the draw many people want, but being always being able to use our cards towards something. I don’t know I want white ramp that fights against what white designs are doing. I like that it lets you operate in a space of less is more, in a sense. The new wizard that draws you and an opponent a card is actually exciting to me, I forget what Gavin called it.
    It’s hard to not have a lot of respect for all of the MDFCs; but my favorites are probably between Myriad Construct and Ashaya. I’ve been looking at MonoG a lot lately as someone who has mostly 3 color decks, so it got me excited about exploring new space.

  • @mr.mammuthusafricanavus8299

    I agree this card Valakut Exploration + cards like the new Nahiri Lithoforming, Boundless realms, Collective Voyage, putting X lands into play could be devastating. I've had games where I play 10+ lands from Boundless Realms.
    I'm excited about more Clerics and that Nahiri Lithoforming, Ancient Greenwarden in my Landeater Korvold deck is going to be awesome :P

    Surprised not to see Scute Swarm mentioned. That and Ashay
    a, Soul of the Wind seem so incredible, particularly when paired with Ancient Greenwarden and the new land DFC's, where you might actually want to play the card *and then play it from the grave* as a land to trigger all the landfall insanity.

    Confounding Conondrum is so increadibly good in Brago,King Eternal. Not only punishes your opponents and fits very well in Bragos restrictive nature, but also it's a perfect blink target to milk the value out of this sweet 2cmc permanent. Got one of those cuties at my PreReelease and instantly made room for it. The eternal King is very pleased.

    Nahiri’s Lithoforming is a bonkers card. It has great synergy with Crucible & Ancient Greenwarden, and it’s absolutely insane with Korvold. It’s also decent with Valakut Exploration. While won’t be able to play the cards VE exiles unless you have Amulet of Vigor in play, you will be able to deal a ton of damage to your opponents.

  • @derekludwig3945
    @derekludwig3945 Před 3 lety

    It kind of sounded like he interpreted Valakut Exploration's landfall ability as allowing you to play lands it exiles, on its own. For clarity, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, while the use of "play" instead of "cast" doesn't stop you from playing those exiled lands, you still need legal land plays available.
    In a generic deck, this probably isn't *that* likely, though in a landfall deck, you should obviously have all sorts of extra land play built into it. I may have read too much into his meaning or entirely misunderstood the card myself, but even with both portions of text clarified as suggested, I think it's a good to great card in the right situation. If you're building an EDH lands deck and are in red? Well, I'm pretty sure it's going in mine.

    • @Orengi-kun
      @Orengi-kun Před 3 lety

      It does affect fetch lands, since it prevents people from paying life as a cost to activate abilities or cast spells. It does not prevent you from sacrificing the fetch, however you can't sacrifice it unless you pay life, since they are both part of the activation cost. It does not, however, affect shock lands, since you pay the life as the land enters the battlefield, not as part of an activation cost.

    Confounding conundrum is only going to make Simic decks even more obnoxious. It completely shits on the free white ramp options more than green who still have their mana dorks.

    • @CrazyMegaOmega
      @CrazyMegaOmega Před 3 lety

      eh, white still mostly ramps with artifacts, just like any color other than green. it's definitely mostly hating on green decks, as while dorks are good they easily die as collateral damage to board wipes and so a lot of decks prefer just using land ramp. If you go on edhrec top green cards youll see 5 land ramp cards before you hit a mana dork. You are definitely right about it making simic decks more obnoxious tho. I do think however that we won't see a lot of the card because it's too subtle/niche for casual play but also doesn't fit well in cEDH because there is much less land ramp at that power level. Methinks it will be mostly something in enchantress decks where it will draw you cards for cheap as well as hating on some green decks.

    • @king_eternal
      @king_eternal Před 3 lety +1

      Green is the primary color that ramps with land drops. I know other colors can ramp by activating a creature/land/artifact to do so but there's not many cards that do so and they can do so on their opponents turns so they don't get affected. Blue is the "bounce" color and enemy to green on the color pie. I can see why it's blue.

      The non-land clause only applies to the permanents opponents attempt to sacrifice. It doesn't impact the cards they're trying to activate, it prevents the effects from being activated in the first place. The life cost restriction and Non-land sacrifice restriction applies to ALL cards your opponents try to play, so even if a Land card tried to sacrifice a non-land permanent, that wouldn't work.

      For one-this isn’t some super competitive edh channel.
      Second- this is probably has a home somewhere in cedh.
      Because a 5 mana (a generic 5 too) is great for a mana doubler.
      Just because Kinnan exists doesn’t make Mirrari’s Wake or Zendikar Resurgence bad

      @@poofypeanut0221 What I meant was that he was talking about how great it was compared to other similar cards, but was speaking as if it cost so much less than them. Then when he got to the casting cost of it he just kinda rushed by it.

    Yasharn is a terrible card, don't listen to him and don't run it.
