Like fine wine 🍷, Jennifer's Body has aged well. It's very underrated.
This movie just works. It blows my mind how well it balances 1. Being funny and setting up comedic sequences 2. Being creepy, dark, and having all the expected horror elements, and 3. Being dramatic and having characters react realistically to tragedy and horrific things. Balancing these three things is so difficult and I can’t think of many movies that nailed them all simultaneously
The Megan Fox bloody smile in the kitchen is an all-time look. A very funny movie with tons of quotable lines, too
Sounds that it may be one those under appreciated movies which was ahead of its time but later is realized to be an overlooked gem.
It's an incredibly nostalgic feeling movie (and actually nostalgic) that has that dream-like quality to it that transports you to a different time. I love to imagine Brian de Palma directing it with his dream-like powers that we so often get from him but Karyn Kusama did great here. Each time I go back to it every few years I am left thinking about it for a few days and ranking it higher and higher. Also Low Shoulder's Through the Trees is a great song!
I'm not a movie guy, but since discovering your channel I've watch a few very good movies, Thanks, but when I saw you on IG throwing that slingshot, and it blew my mind!!!!🤘
I got into this movie late a few years ago & I love it. To me it's a cult film already. I wish the director would do more movies in this realm of horror
I’m so happy this movie exists. I remember years ago when I saw it in the theater loving it, and feeling a bit alone in that. Now it has an audience, and it completely deserves the audience it has grown. I also feel like people wrote off Megan Fox’s performance because she was seen as a bad actress, but she nails the role of Jennifer.
A movie that went from underrated to overrated over the years. I don't think it's this misunderstood horror classic like some people make it out to be but it's watchable.
2" in the video and I'm convinced : paused it, gonna watch this movie I overlooked, then come back for the rest of the review.

Oh I've loved this movie for so long. So glad to see that it is getting the respect and devoted cult following it deserves.
Definitely will be rewatching it one day this month. Would love to hear more hidden gem horror rec's from you!
no way i was literally searching for a review from you on this a few days ago when i watched it for the first time! It blew my mind by how good it was, especially visually for a mainstream horror-comedy. It’s gorgeousss. And megan fox KILLED it. Such a fun movie
I finally decided to watch again, 14 years after the first time. And wow, this movie is practically a summary of teenage reality of 2024: the slow but inevitable entry to an age were human connection, empathy and genuineness is fading, the massification of social media, social relevance and the need for validation, the role of the internet on this generation as mold for personality development. This movie is 15 years ahead of its time. Megan Fox is absolutely perfect for the role, not only physically but also there’s a real attempt to deliver an excellent performance, and she completely understands her part in balancing the social commentary, the humor and the severity of the situations. Certain aspects that stand out:
The slo-mo entrances at the high school halls, Jennifer is self absorbed to the point of thinking everyone is watching her but no one is watching her. Kids do not overreact to her presence, they do not turn around to admire her or make a big deal of her, yes she’s pretty, yes boys like her, but she’s not as hot as the thinks she is, nor so self confident as she wants to project. Her friend has all the things she wishes to have. My favorite line from this film “rumor? It’s true. It’s on the Wikipedia…”
Excellent satirical story. And highly influential, like Clueless, Mean Girls, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and classics like Carrie and Fast Times at Rigdemont High. Recommend.
Omg was JUST talking about Ginger Snaps with my husband! Would love to get a review on that movie too!
"The humour just felt darker and more pungent." (Chef's kiss) Fantastic review!
good show👌. "taking ownership of her ID, instead the of other way around." ❤ed that...surely checking this one.
I like this movie more on paper than I did on the screen. When I saw it I kinda hated it, but soon after leaving the theater I found myself liking it more and more. I often wonder what this script would have been like in the hands of Fincher or Lathimos, someone to let the dialogue breathe a little or sink in deeper
I love this movie. So glad it finally got the recognition it initially deserved. It was ahead of it's time but somehow it feels very much of it's time (not in a bad way) at the same time lol.
Appreciate your review. Thanks. Was going to start a drinking game, every time you said "post modern" 😉
Wasn't a big fan of this movie. Saw it twice a long time ago. I thought it was decent but found something lacking. Maybe, I need to give it a rewatch. Greets from miserable grey rainy Manchester UK 🇬🇧
Watching this made me realize the incredible actress Megan Fox really is! She should be getting so many more opportunities to show what she can really do!
I remember my friend rented it when it first came out at Blockbuster😂 and I didn’t want to watch it because I thought it was gonna be some twilight kind of thing and then loving it and seeing it many times after. Megan fox’s best movie.
I have it purchased on iTunes and watched it again last night and honestly for a horror movie it’s rather fun and not really scary. Definitely worth it 👍🏼
I remember all those poor review of J's B at the moment of it's release and I just didn't get it - I loved it right from the start.
I revisited it couple of times over the years and I appreciate it even more.
My only small issue with it is GGI, it didn't age awell, I think prosthetic demon makeup would be so much better.
But that's it.
It's fun, it's scary, it's smart, I am glad it found it's audience and became a modern cult classic.
Better late than never!
Cheers
deepfocuslens which cut should I watch?
Lol this is such a coincidence. I just watched the movie yesterday haha
When this movie came out I had no intention of watching it. Then I gave it a chance and ended up liking it.
I love that you did this
Hi Maggie, just saw 'Past Lives' the other night. I thought 'Aftersun' was the best movie I saw in the theatre this year, but it's a close call with 'Past Lives'... It also is deeply moving.
Did you see it already?
Anyone seen Man Bites Dog? One ofy all time favourites.
I love your video maggie! Can I get a hi five?
So happy this horror comedy has found its cult following. Perfect review of this movie.
i just rewatched jennifer's body recently and nope, still hate it.
Am watching it right now. I don't get the appeal at all. It's just obnoxious tbh. The humor isn't landing at all.
@@Paradox-dy3ve add a laugh track and it's an r-rated teen nick/disney channel horror movie, nothing more.
@@desmadre811seriously! It's just as cinematic as one of those shows lol and the humor is some Dan Schneider level drivel
I’ve never understood the reverence this film gets, I may try watching it again. Diablo’s dialogue in movies, I’m not sure if she thinks this is how teenagers talk or she’s making fun of the way teenagers talk OR she’s making fun of the way people think teenagers talk.
@@genius179 she's not doing anything but writing egregiously obnoxious sounding dialogue and characters. she's a hot topic store come to life.
For a moment there I thought her parents actually named her Diablo.
I got some Jennifer's Body vibes from the movie Bottoms - both of those movies are really funny
I haven't seen this movie in a long time, but what sticked in my head is the one scene where she shows up in the kitchen at night, very f ing scary
There's no copyright conflict in putting up a poster for the film, which is for promotional purposes and a good attention grabber for your channel.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time
Hulu’s new “No One Will Save You,” is great!
I think it’s a cool enough fantasy comedy drama horror film but not the best acting at times from Miss Fox but played a great villain who you feel sorry for. Would like a short film or a 2nd full length film to continue Needy’s character. Needy’s boyfriend could have been explained more even though he was acting pretty boring. Ginger Snaps film series are also classics. Juno isn’t an interesting film alright, the original Carrie I couldn’t finish and the remake which I watched all the way though didn’t win me over either, The Rage Carrie 2 is okay
Great movie..but his biggest flaw is that was marketed wrongly..
shout out to sleigh bells
What are your 5 fave Horror flicks?
I love this movie! The only Megan Fox film I like.
Low shoulder for lfe its a bowe knife lol
btw, what do you think about yellowjackets? director of jennifers body directed couple of episodes of the show. i found second season very disappointing and terribly written.
I'm so glad your discussing this film. I was so disappointed qheni was young that this fipm didn't make money cuz they wanted Megan's Boobs. I just wanted a good horror movie and I was not disappointed. Wished Megan got more ropes in disturbing films or more serious roles.
"today I'm gonna be reviewing Jennifer's body" 👙👀
I have trouble seeing Amanda Seyfreid as the "plain" girl. She's so much prettier than Megan Fox.
I loved this movie for making Megan look horrific eating raw meat and vomiting black goo. Love it for her. Love her acting
👍🏻
🙏🙏🙏
Will you review The Painted Veil?
This movie is neither funny or disturbing in my opinion, which is the most disappointing aspect for me. But I do love the acting, I can tell they gave it their all and really believed in the film. However, I think it would actually be called woke today, and just as divisive as it was in 2009, but for different reasons
🥵🥵🥵
I hated this movie
As I'm watching it for the first time, I'm scrolling these comments. I just don't get it. It's not funny. None of the characters are endearing or interesting. The dialogue is OBNOXIOUS. I hate it so much
I like juno better, but it's fine. You see Repo The Genetic Opera?
Meh
Anita is not a reliable narrator.
Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😮😮😮😮😮
too bad diablo cody didn’t write anything good since this movie, maybe “young adult” but that’s all
You look kinda like Megan Fox :p
I love your channel. You're obviously a very intelligent and insightful critic. But holy shit I couldn't disagree any harder. I absolutely despise this film.
This goes up there with some of your worst takes, imo (like disliking late career Kubrick lol).
I love "Carrie". This was nothing like Carrie. This was so unbelievably shallow. The top comment here is saying it's:
1. Funny 2. Scary 3. Dramatic
I found it to be NONE of those things. Except on a few rare occasions, a bit funny. It was not even slightly scary and the idea of getting caught up in the "drama" is totally laughable to me.
The dialogue was obnoxious as hell. The cinematography is ugly as sin in this very cookie cutter 2000s way. The editing was awkward and very dated as well.
I don't perceive it as a movie with layers at all. If anything, it strikes me as exceptionally shallow. "Being the pretty girl makes you bitchy" wow... so interesting. It doesn't dig into the why's or get you emotionally invested enough in where Jennifer is coming from to feel her motivation. (At least for me)
A good contrast here, for me, is "Pearl". She's unambiguously the villain but you still totally feel Pearl's motivations and following her story is engaging and emotionally satisfying in a dark, horrifying kind of way. Carrie is another great example. I completely FELT why Carrie massacred all those kids at the prom. But this movie? Why does Jennifer do all that? Because it's implied or referenced that being hot and popular made her insecure? Okay... didn't feel that one at all.
I didnt laugh. It wasn't insightful or dramatic. It wasn't even scary. It was just really stupid, to me. It came off like a particularly shallow teenage girl's "edgy" horror comedy that happens to have an entire soundtrack of horrible music.
I hated it so much. I think it's become semi "cult" popular because movies like "Bottoms" and other "edgy" lesbian comedies are fashionable right now.
I'm struggling to see how it's anything like Carrie. I just watched it based off your recommendation and man... I seriously regret it. I was shocked. The way you described it here, I thought I'd love it. But i think instead, I found one of my least favorite movies I've seen in a while.
the script by diablo cody is better than the actual film if you read it.. she is a great screenwriter... but the movie is nothing special...
