  • Aitik at the Polar Circle is one of Europe's largest copper mines. Every day Goliath, a Volvo FH16, transports 500 tonnes of copper ore between the dressing plant at the Aitik Mine and the loading terminal. When this specially built truck leaves the dressing plant, a total of 144 tonnes are distributed over its ten axles and 36 tyres.

Every truck has it's purpose, especially when carrying very heavy loads.
I wonder though, if Goliat was designed to only pull a single 5 axle trailer instead of 2, 5 axle trailers.

These rigs have been on Michigan USA highways since 1960's. Search Michigan Road Trains.

I suppose the 'dressing plant' is the Mineral Processing plant, or affectionately called 'mill', which makes concentrate from the ore mined from the ground.

@kristofferwestlund I think they got it wrong with the translation. The truck can't have 144 tons, that means each axle on the trailer should hold 15 tons, on the truck, the tractive double axles should hold 18 tons each, the lazy one 15 tons and the single drive axles 9.5 tons each. That's to much for such combination, for 540 bhp and for a icy road.
I'd rather think it has a maximum GVW of 104 tons.

Nothing wrong with the translation. He says clearly "grossing between 130 and 140 tonnes" in the video. As for weight distribution. I don't know the specifics for each axle, but they're reinforced and the drive axles are rated for roughly 15 tonnes each, if I'm not mistaken. Front axles are also reinforced so they should take over 12 tonnes each. Trailer axles should also probably be around 12 tonnes each. Even standard axles can take these weights, but not legally. The tyres will go flat or explode before axles break so the tyres are also specially made for higher weights.

Scania is king of the forests, Volvo is undisputed lord of the mines and excavation sites 👌

@yuxinwang hahaha what a joke, american trucks are made to run a lifetime. funny how volvo engines here in north america are crap and problematic compared to cummins or kitty cats which are also massively more powerful. i think eros like to exxaggerate their hp settings cause who the hell needs 700+ hps. oh also make some space inside the cab for drivers would ya.

A U.S. Ton is 2,000 lbs. A euro ton or Metric ton is 2,200. And yes euro trucks are better we own both. We can not get cat eng. To run right. Neither can Cat!
