  • Drove the Power Wagon for 42 miles with the new tires and it rode better than the factory tires. For reference, the wheels are (Method 704HD, 17x9, +18mm) and the tires (Toyo Open Country RT Trail 37x12.50/17 E2) . These tires are actually quieter than the factory Duratracs. Currently at 40 psi front and 35 psi rear. Will do a chalk test later. With 40 in the front and 35 in the back, the tires both measure the same loaded at 35.5". I did run the rear at 40 psi in the beginning and the rear measured 35.63" OD. All measured with a level. More info coming soon on spare and clearance fitting for 37s.

    Very interesting that you mentioned the vibration. I have a Jeep Wrangler JK on 35 inch Nitto Trail Grapplers, and I also gave a very random vibration specifically between 60-65. Any faster or slower and it’s gone. Had them balanced multiple times, rotate every 3k miles. Maybe it’s something to do with solid front axle vehicles at that speed? Not sure if you’re in a snowy area, but I’ve been searching CZcams for a while to find some snow reviews of the RT Trail since I’m up in North Dakota

      I am going to have the front wheels rebalanced again just to make sure. Putting on new suspension in two weeks, so that may change or fix it. No snow right now where I am at, so can't comment on the snow handling capabilities.

      So wheels were out of balance due to the brake caliper knocking the weights off. I had some 1/2 oz weights on there and they were sticking up too high. So we rebalanced all the wheels again using the 1/4 oz tall weights on the back edge and all vibrations are gone at all speeds.

      @@redbeastadventures Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of going with 37's on my stock 23 PW. Not sure if they'll rub though. Did you every get the new suspension installed? Did it change anything?

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před měsícem

      @@rjmlakota I put the 37 tires on the truck first before installing the Thuren suspension components and mine did not rub at the swaybar or radius arms with factory suspension. I am using Method 17x9 +18mm offset wheels which change the backspacing over the factory wheels. In this case with 12.5” wide tires, I do not rub at those locations. I was close on the inner fender towards the cab. I took off the plastic trim in that spot and “tied” back the plastic fender liner. If you look on my channel you will find that video for “trimming”. I did intall the suspension and basically gave more height and articulation to the truck and it rides better (see videos on channel).

    Good looking tires for sure...too bad they were only 2 ply sidewall in 265/75r16 while not being the lightest either.

    I was looking into going for some 17x9 or 17x10's with +0 offset and some 37's. Do you think they would rub? I don't think they'd rub on the sway bar, but what're your thoughts about the fenders?

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před 26 dny

      Definitely shouldn't rub on the sway bar, but probably will rub on the inner fenders. The +18mm 17x9 wheels put the tires in that sweet spot where they don't rub on the sway bar but don't stick out so far as to rub the inner fenders as much. If you used 17x10 with 0 offset you will most likely be cutting on the fenders to fit 37s with no rubbing. CJC Offroad (844) 252-6373 based out of CA know a lot about this topic. They recommended the 17x9 +18 wheels for my application.

    Did you re-calibrate your speedometer? Is the transmission shifting any differently. I may go to a 35, and my dealer stated they can re-calibrate my 2023 speedometer for 150 bucks.

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I did recalibrate using the AEV Procal Snap (see video on channel). I purchased mine from CJC Offroad for $225 and you can also reset your tire TPMS setting. Chances are with the larger tires, you really don’t want to run the pressure as high as the current TPMS setting. I heard it does adjust the transmission shift points for the bigger tires. In my case, because the manual was wrong on the programmer, I actually reprogrammed the axle ratio from 4.10 to 3.55 first (accidentally - see video). After I reached out to AEV for clarification and help, I was able to reprogram my axle back to 4.10 and set the new tire size properly. After I initially changed the axle ratio to 3.55, I noticed it started to shift differently. After I put the axle ratio back to 4.10 and set the new bigger tire size, it did shift differently again. It took 5+ drive cycles for the transmission to start shifting like I wanted it to shift after that programming. I believe it may have “reset” the adaptive shift learning for the transmission. At any rate, I would reprogram if you can for the installed tire size.

    Did you have any rubbing in the front, on the sway bar at full turn

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před měsícem +1

      No. The key is the backspacing on the wheels. I have the 17x9 +18mm offset wheels. In this case, there is no rubbing on the sway bar or radius arms. With the factory wheels and the same tires it would definitely rub on the sway bar because the backspacing on the factory wheel puts the tires back inside the fender more. With the factory wheels probably less potential of rubbing on the fender liner but rubbing on the sway bar with 37s. However, those 17x9 +18mm wheels put the tires in the sweet spot to not rub with 37s. You could probably run 35s on the factory wheels with no rubbing.

      I have the same rims from CJC. I installed Toyo AT3 37x12.50R17. Also have a ram rebel 2500, should be the same height as the power wagon and for some reason my tires rub on the sway bar

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před měsícem

      @@johnsellers2353 Bummer on the tires rubbing. Although the Rebel 2500 truck might be the same height as the PW, I believe the front suspension would be different from a PW. The PW has a disconnecting swaybar that may have more tire clearance than the non-disconnecting version.

    Have you noticed much power loss with the taller tires

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I have not noticed any power loss. I did replace the factory tires after putting only 30 miles on the truck. But I did try to get a feel for it before changing…. That truck has plenty of power and torque especially at 2k RPM. With my “smaller” 37s (Toyo OC RT Trail 37x12.5) they measure 35.5” loaded height with 40 psi front. The factory Duratracs 285/70/17 measured 32.13” loaded with 55 psi front. That equates to a net Axle Ratio of 3.7 instead of the 4.10 with the Durtracs. It has plenty of power on the highway climbing mountain hills with 37s. With the 8 speed transmission and the 50:1 crawl ratio now effectively 45:1 that is plenty for offroading as well. I haven’t taken it up a trail yet, but will be soon. Currently at 260 miles on the odometer. Need a few more before I open it up fully and go offroad. No regrets with the 37s. Have more videos to post (been busy). More upgrades coming soon…

    the shoulders of your rear tires make no contact with the road. Way to much pressure. Now you have to use OBD to fix all of that not only the speedo being off also your tire pressure light because i bet you have to run those at 45 psi to get proper road contact. You also lost a lot of articulation because that tire has no room. To much trouble for zero benefit.

    • @redbeastadventures
      @redbeastadventures  Před 3 měsíci

      I am currently running 43 psi in the front and 38 psi in the rear tires. Tire contact is good verified with chalk test (see later videos). I used AEV Procal Snap to set for speedometer correction and lowered TPMS setting to 35 psi. No issue with articulation. The current front stock is 8” of wheel travel and the rear is 9”. There is 8+” of space above the front tire to the fender and 9+” in the rear. When articulating a lot of that willl actually be dropping down in the other direction so the tires will not rub inside the top of the fender. Also, putting on additional suspension travel components tomorrow so then there will be 9.5+” space travel upwards and 11.5-12” space in the rear. Overall, I will be getting 9.5” wheel travel in the front and 11” in the rear. The flex on this beast should be pretty phenomenal considering its size. Will post some videos later when I can fully flex it offroad. Should be close to 30” of max articulation with the sway bar disconnected.
