In 1985, Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka came up with the idea of putting 330lb nose tackle William 'The Refrigerator' Perry in the backfield to block for Walter Payton. Shortly thereafter, as a gimmick, he decided to give Perry the ball on run and pass plays. Perry became the heaviest NFL player to score a TD on offense, and an overnight national media sensation. This is the greatest big man play of all-time and started the trend of giving 300 pounders the ball. Unfortunately, Ditka got carried away with his gimmick and called a play in Super Bowl XX allowing Perry to score an easy touchdown ... instead of Walter Payton. (The first play in this video.) Ditka said it was the biggest mistake of his career. To this day, Ditka apologizes for denying Payton his deserved Super Bowl TD.
Excellent explanation
This right here. Harvard is asking about you.
"The Refrigerator" started it all.
I disagree with you on it being Ditka’s idea. The Fridge was scoring and blocking for offense sometimes for Danny Ford at Clemson before he was drafted. The concept traveled with him to Chicago.
My high school PE teacher played for the 85 bears he said Kodak was cool and collinsworth was a prick lol
There's almost nothing as fun in football than watching a big man with a head of steam. They deserve their moments in the sun as much as anyone.
They really do! This was a great watch!
Big Vince Wilfork!!! He saved a women’s life one night after a football game here in New England after her car flipped over. Patriot Legend and should be a hall of famer
Woman's. Singular.
He saved a lot of women by rolling off them.
@@johng.4711 …good one…
You can't imagine how popular William "The Refrigerator" Perry was in 1985 for the Chicago Bears. The "85 Bears and their "Superbowl Shuffle" song and dance are legendary.
..Remember, for a lot of us in middle age, the 80s were very memorable for us.
I still have his GI Joe figure somewhere
It's before their time, but Perry was actually pretty popular in England back in the day.
@@SmokeyJoeWood173 ...Yep. I had the 1986 Sports Illustrated issue with "The Fridge" on the cover in London.
Getting Hawked down by Larry Allen is like realizing that a 🐻 bear being bigger faster stronger than you is terrifying 😮😢
The Chicago Bear that caught the INT was known as Keith “the Tractor”Traylor.
Great reaction, lads. The lineman from the Patriots that had 2 was (Cane Legend and part of the "Greatest College team ever assembled", 2001 Canes of course) "Big" Vince Wilfork. Love that dude. An incredible athlete. He can dunk a basketball, too.
Thank you Dennis, appreciate that 🙏 Love this, great info!
Vince Wilfork (the giant Patriots DT) might be my favorite big player of all time, he caught a lot of interceptions for ab interior d-lineman
You guys have come a long way! When the Poe play started and you said "are they in the wildcat"? I was super impressed and proud of you guys! Keep up the great work
Thank you 🙏
That first clip he said "That one registered a 3.8" was referring to the richter scale saying perry caused an earthquake lol
That’s brilliant 😂
That play by Larry Allen is iconic.
One thing I love about a big man play is how absolutely PUMPED their teammates are afterwards.
💯
At 10:20 yes, they're referring to Refrigerator Perry, as a rare example of a large defensive player coming in for a short run on offense. Absolutely worth watching highlights of Refrigerator Perry and the rest of the 1985 Bears.
Also that was brilliant. The defense was completely expecting a run up the middle, nobody's remotely defending the pass.
William "The Refrigerator" Perry, that was his nickname. Defensive tackle who would line up in the backfield in short yardage situations.
Edit:That was 1985
It’s a great nickname 😂
@@DNReacts An all time name for sure! Keep up the great content guys
@@DNReactsDA BEARZZ
Who would win a race between Coach Ditka driving a school bus or Mario Andretti in an IndyCar? Daaaaaa Coach! 😂
"And now, it's all instinct!! He's pickin' 'em up, he's layin' ' em down!" 😂😂😂
There's a college version on this same theme. In one clip, the announcer described the big man as "320 pounds of glory". That genuinely cracked me up.
You guys should take a look at "Vince Wilfork" He's another one of those athletic big men! He's the creator of the "Butt fumble" and can kick field goals with the best of them! Not to mention he plays basketball as a general workout!
#75 Big Vince Wilfork was on the 2001 Miami team that you guys reacted to. He was famously listed at 325 lbs but probably weighed north of 350. Guys like that are not so common anymore as defenses have had to become lighter and faster to keep up with modern passing offenses, but Vince was a special and important piece on my Patriots for a decade.
Wow, great catch, thank you for this, really appreciate it 🙏
The guy who had two picks was Vince Wilfork from the Pats. An absolutely amazing athlete. He actually had 3 interceptions in his career. One of the greatest nose tackles to play the game.
One of the funniest parts of the defense line running back interceptions is all their faster teammates catching up and blocking for them.
💯 Noticed this in a few, definitely agree. Thanks for the comment
What I love is this shows how much talent even the big guys have.
💯
Yes!!!! Please keep reacting to the big boys kicking ass!!!! They get such little love for how absolutely awesome they are to the team/game!!!!! And oh yeah Larry Allen was the ultimate beast!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!! ❤️❤️🥳❤️😎🍸
Love this!!
What’s up fellas? Glad yall are still going strong. 💯🙏🏾
All good thank you! Hope you’re ok!
Never get tired of that Larry Allen clip!
Incredible clip!
8:08 is from 2001. That's Keith "Tractor" Traylor, aka one half of the Bears' "Twin Buddhas" at defensive tackle along with Ted Washington
Reggie White, the Minister of Defense, is one of the best. The Cowboy's Larry Allen often faced him. I remember a play where Reggie was pushing past him, and shoved Larry Allen so hard he left his feet and flew backwards.
context for the guys. Reggie's nickname was because not only was he an NFL player, but an actual ordained minister. so " The Minister of Defense " a double entendre conbining his off field certification, and his on field player status.
@@nadjasunflower1387 As a Cowboy fan I wanted to hate him, but he was so incredible to watch, I couldn't.
@@peterhineinlegen4672I felt the same way about Barry Sanders. Some talent is just too freaking awesome to hate, even if it is a team you dislike.
Reggie White couldnt run down 4.5 40 guys lmao…🤷♂️
Ive also seen Nic Bosa get flung like a ragdoll.
“Hey Dan, what’s your career highlight” is such a great call
"The Fridge" is just a very large guy on your team.
American refrigerators, not for college but homes, are massive. Big enough to put 2 people inside easily.
“THIS PASS IS PICKED! AND WHO IS IT? BIG B.J. RAJI FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!”
Legendary.
Raji was a character lol
Loved the Celebration after the TD
At 8:47, this game has to be between 2001 and 2003 as Keith Traylor only played for the Bears those years.
Its definitely true that the linemen, particularly offensive linemen, don't get nearly enough recognition. They aren't as flashy as some of the skill positions, but guys like Trent Williams are seriously special to watch. If you really love football, and I mean really love the art of football, not just watching the games, you love offensive linemen.
Is you thought Larry Allen was fun, please watch Vince Wilfork! Cookie Monster! The man "behind" the butt fumble! 😂😂
Perry was active in the 1980's. He was the first big man to show such athleticism.
Thanks for this, appreciate the comment 🙏
I love watching Big men on HB screens. Gives them the opportunity to showcase their blocking skills by running ahead of the RB and providing a shield.
You need to watch the James Harrison interception return the in the Super Bowl!! That needs to be on the list! Actually the highlights of the gaame itself! It was a Banger!!!!!
Yeah, you need to do a video on the 85 bears. That team had a ton of characters, and the "Superbowl Shuffle" video is a must see! William "The Refrigerator" Perry had a brother, Michael Dean Perry, who played for the Browns. Michael Dean Perry was a pro-bowl nose tackle and one of my favorite players. He even had his own sandwich at McDonalds for a while, the MDP, featuring three beef patties with strips of bacon
You guys did a video on the 85 Bears and don't know of The Fridge? He's absolutely worth the watch!
That was quite some time ago 😂 but yeah he looks a lot of fun!
Love it when big guys get to score
💯
to answer your question from the first clip. Refrigerator was William Perry's Nickname.
Yes, there is only 1- William "Refrigerator" Perry (and yes, it's because in College- one of the upperclassmen saw him barely fit into an elevator and said, "Damn, you're as big as a Refrigerator" and the nickname stuck ever since....6'2 330 pounds btw)
I’m a high school football coach at a very good program. If we are winning by a lot, we have a special offense that we run. It’s called big Bertha and it’s nothing but lineman. All big guys. And it’s one of the best parts of the game. In one game a starting offensive guard lined up at tail back and ran a 65 yard touchdown.
As a receivers coach I got to say that I love the big guys. My boys don’t get the rock and nothing happens at all without the office of line.
The "Linesmen" are back- I'm glad you haven't changed 😁👍🏼🇬🇧
"Is the Refrigerator worth a watch"
Me: shaking my head yes like you can see me through the screen.
The issue is, his career wasn't a highlight parade, but you appreciated that he had an effect on every play.
I'm amazed they didn't include Vince Wilfork's butt fumble play. That was among the first viral videos.
Vince Wilfork (#75 Patriots) was an absolute freak of an athlete. 6'2" and listed at a very generous 325 lbs (generous as in shaving 50-60lbs off his actual weight) and could still dunk a basketball. You might look at his defensive numbers and think he was average, but he demanded double, even triple-teams every play - freeing others up to make on-the -ball plays. You simply did not run up the middle against the Patriots when he was out there.
'Big man with ball!'
I’m fairly certain Dontari Poe in the one chiefs clip set the record for heaviest player to score a touchdown. He weighed 346 lbs, The Fridge weighed 335 lbs
William "The Refrigerator" Perry or 'The Fridge" for short. Dan Marino and Perry were the two best known NFL players in England in the 80s.
My favorite big man: John Hannah. Hannah was considered the greatest guard to ever play in the NFL at the time. Check him out.
When a big man scores a TD... they've been calling it a THICC SIX the last few years
As good as Larry Allen was. He got literally tossed by the Great Reggie White. Another BIG STRONG MAN.
The Chiefs called their alignment featuring Dontari Poe (including the jump pass you saw) “Hungry Pig”, so all of the plays in that alignment were “Hungry Pig [something]”. More from Andy Reid, football mad scientist.
I love the Mitch Holthus call of that play. "HUNGRY PIG IS PASSING!" All time.
Just wanted to stop by in the comments and say R.I.P. Mr Larry Allen
His name is William "THE REFRIGERATOR" Perry. THE CHICAGO BEARS!!!!
Thank you Lyn 🙏
I had to stop watching! When you started calling some other guy freezer. IT'S USA. A FREEZER IS IN THE REFRIGERATOR (Fridge)!!!
We have freezers that aren’t in the fridge, we are allowed to use our own language 😂😂
Refrigerator Perry, is a god!
Love the reaction as always!
Everyone seems to think the "Big Guys" are just there for show. They are damn athletes too!!!
Thank you so much 🙏
Might’ve been said already, but Vince Wilfork was actually driving home from a playoff game one night and came upon a car accident on the freeway. He calmed the driver until the rescue squad showed up. Then once they determined she didn’t have any spinal injuries he literally grabbed her out of the car with one arm. Can’t think of a better first responder that I’d want.
m.czcams.com/video/BZAMgiNZeLQ/video.html
And yes… Refrigerator Perry was the OG. “The Fridge” is an American legend.
Vince Wilfork was the one with two picks, he was a big part of the Patriots defense and a remarkable player. Also I think that guy in the penultimate clip did try to jump pass, just didn't get much air lol
Hi guys!! One of the greatest “Big Men” was the legendary John Madden, mostly known by me as the head coach of the “Oakland Raiders,” back in the day!! He eventually became an amazing broadcaster of the game. I noticed that you guys joined CZcams on December 28, one year to the day after his death! His story is SO amazing and very moving to see! Could you feature him on the anniversary of starting your CZcams channel?? He was the ULTIMATE Big Man!!! ❤️
Appreciate the suggestion, we will definitely be getting to John Madden. Had him on our list for a While. Thank you 🙏
@@DNReacts oh wonderful!! Thanks guys!! 💕
Love you guys!!!!!
Thank you!! 🙏🏼
William "The Refrigerator" Perry. 6-2, 335 lbs (right out of college). His actual NFL playing weight was said to be 385.
That was good. I remember most of those.
William Perry did the Same thing at Clemson, where he ran and blocked in the Offensive backfield in Clemsons "Heavy" set.
Perry's tackle on 4 and 1 of Hershel Walker in 1981 WAS EPIC!!
I went to Football Tryouts at Newberry, NC State and Clemson the year Perry was recruited.
I was 6'5" , 285lbs and an All State Center and Long Snapper.
Perry pushed Me around in drills at NC State, like I was a 10 year old in drills
I made sure not to get paired up in the same group with him after that.
He ran Sprints at Newberry College with the Wide Receivers and backs.
He was that fast,at that side.

At 7:20 this is especially impressive because it's in Denver, which at over a mile of elevation has thin air. Fortunately NFL teams keep oxygen masks on the sidelines for moments like this!
Big men are great athletes.
I am incredibly biased being an Iowa fan. Line men are amazing athletes. They starting packing on mass starting at the age of 14, and never stop. You can really tell after retirement they look younger, and more muscular.
Yes, “Refrigerator” was his nickname or sometimes just “The Fridge.” That highlight comes from the Super Bowl after the 1985 season. Many say the 1985 Chicago Bears defense was the best ever and that the entire Bears team was the best ever, or at least top 3. The 46-10 score in that Super Bowl is misleading. The Bears were even more dominating than that score indicates.
Sorry I'm late on the reactions. Enjoy watching you guys
Thank you 🙏
Any Bill Swerski’s Superfans video is great
@7:55 "how did he get all that space"
That's the play I said should have been in the video you watched called dumbest play that always works.
Nobody ever covers the 6th lineman lol
dan wilkinson for the Redskins ran a fumble back for an 80+ yard td 25 yrs ago maybe. i hope that play is in here. he was a big boy
Refrigerator Perry was one of the most popular players in the 1980's.
He inspired a lot of fat dudes: "I can do that man I can do that".
However, Perry could jam a basketball, he was no couch potato.
I miss those days.
William perry or refrigerator Perry is a defensive tackle inducted into the hall of fame in 2006
"Refrigerator" Perry was indeed his nickname. He was, back in 1985, possibly the biggest guy in the league. Now? He is no bigger than 75% of the linemen. That game was my Patriot's first Super Bowl. And we were pretty much the sacrificial lamb of the league, because everyone knew that whoever faced the Bears (one of the greatest, if not THE greatest defenses ever), was going to get destroyed. We lost 46-10. And it wasn't even THAT close. I, unfortunately had the displeasure of being at that game in the Superdome in New Orleans.
It’s hard to go against offensive lineman Dan Connelly for the Patriots taking a squib back down to the 2 yard line. That’s my favorite by far
Oh my gosh I was hoping you would do a big man running one soon
At 8:40 that's Keith Traylor, his nickname was Tractor Traylor.
Let’s gooooooooo
William "The Refrigerator" Perry. he was awesome.
and the best big man moment in NFL history isn't even on this little reel.
william the refridgerator perry and walter payton are one of the reasons american football caught on in the UK . the brits loved the fridge .
💯
I predict a Fridge video coming soon. Lol
The guy that did the jump pass for Chiefs is Dontari Poe....He is the largest man to either rush or throw for a touchdown....He had two rushing touchdowns in addition to the pass you saw...The year he was drafted Poe was measured in at 6ft 3 1/2 inches tall, 346 pounds and ran the 40 yard dash in 4.98 seconds at the NFL combine.
Watch the story of William "Refrigerator" Perry. You'll love him. Funny guy to this day.
Christopher Wilkins #94 of the Miami Dolphins who Plays Defensive Tackle 6'2", 290 lbs when he was in college at Clemson:
-Ran for a Touchdown
-Threw for a Touchdown
-Caught a Touchdown pass
-Intercepted a pass for a Touchdown
-Recovered a Fumble for a Touchdown
-Blocked a Punt and returned it for a Touchdown.

Lob pass is the phrase you're looking for
William Perry was "The Refrigerator."
My take on the "Fridge" is that Ditka took over as head coach, Buddy Ryan felt he should have been made head coach. They draft Perry, but Ryan won't play him, so Ditka uses him on offense! Why not!
Vince Wilfork was an incredible athlete. Very good basketball player as well. Shaun Rogers was a freak also. Huge man but had really great feet and when he was engaged was a very good player.
"Did you over the burger" You guys would probably have just as hard of a time understanding my accent. Love the channel. Big guys making football plays rule. You guys would have loved to watch John Madden commentated games.
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you 🙏 We’ll definitely have to get to John Madden’s greatest moments. A popular suggestion on the channel. Would’ve been awesome to hear him call a game live too. Appreciate the comment 🙏
For some reason, James Harrison's Super Bowl XLIII pick six didn't make this. So famous, SNL did a hilarious skit about it.
Another great video. Funny sidenote, I just figured out that I’ve been calling my coworker, Damon, “Damo” with your accent for two weeks now and didn’t even realize it. He doesn’t get it, and thinks I’m just being an asshole. 😂
Alot of people that love football knows all that flashy stuff wouldn't happen without the big men in the trenches. Also everyone knows exactly who they are
The Fridge has arguably the greatest NFL legacy for a player who was decidedly mediocre at playing football. Having a cool nickname and scoring a memorable touchdown in the Bears only Super Bowl win ever means he will always be remembered as a legend in Chicago.
The first one that comes to mind is WilliamThe Fridge Perry in Chicago. I think he was a little under 350 lbs but athletic.
That was the Fridge and the 85 Bears
Yes, Perry is worth a watch!
Thank you 🙏
no guys... when referring to the FRIDGE .... people are talking about Will Perry .... so the commentaters are comparing this or that guy to william perry
Unnoticed?!, These guys are giants among giants?!,but for the helmets
What might not be mentioned in the video, is the 2021 AFC playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals! #94 Sam Hubbard of the Bengals picked up a fumble recovery and took it back 98 yards for the touchdown! That play would not have happened if not for Logan Wilson who caused the fumble in the first place! Sam Hubbard was also a native of Cincinnati, went to highschool, and went to college in Cincinnati before being drafted by the Bengals! So to do this in his native Cincinnati is absolutely unbelievable!
Hubbard played for the Buckeyes, but other than that you’re correct
There was also a guy named Jerome Bettis nicknamed “the bus”
