He's done narrative roles
Ben Kingsley is the type of guy you want to have a cup of tea with and just listen to him tell stories for hours.

Saw him do that in Eichmann.
You sound like a real treat... I mean if one was seeking voluntary uthenasia. Yawn.
probably not, he is notoriously prickly in real life
He strikes me as a person who could eat a single grape and savour it for an hour and then spend another day describing it to someone else with their complete attention.
@Fat Dom if he is, then he's just on the right side of it. I do know what you mean though.

And you know what I would 100% want to hear what he had to say about that grape! I would sit there silently listening to every word taking in every gesture

In India, generations grew up watching Gandhi on 2.Oct the birth date of Gandhi on national TV every year. In childhood, I always thought he is real Gandhi until I realized that it was Ben Kingsley.
Heyy, I was born on 2nd of Oct. hehe
Isn't it strange that he was performed by an English actor? It might be considered blackface today. Yet I think he played it brilliantly. But weird.

OMG.... I didn't know until today that he played Gandhi... 😯😲😳
" He was surrounded by sublime coinicidences "... That stuck with me for some reason...
a nice way of saying synchronicity.
A nice way of indicating that this movie project was something that was going to be phenomenally special.
That this project was far more than just a movie. It was a story that would point to a solution for an illness which pervades our species even through to today. Gandhi, the person, went on to influence people like MLK. But he himself was influenced by people like Tolstoy, who was influenced by Emerson & Thoreau, who took the teachings of people like Jesus to heart. So the story of Gandhi is far more than a Hindu story. It encompasses a Christian story. It is the deepest of all types of stories. It says, here is a basic problem with the human race. This might be the standard way of dealing with that kind of problem. But there are those who have let us know that we have an alternative way. And I am choosing to walk this path of this alternative way.
So the synchronicity experienced by Ben Kingsley, and generously shared here with us, helps to underscore the magnitude of the message in his story. This movie changed my life. Permanently. It helped me find a new path. And I did not look back. I expect it had this impact on many people. And Ben Kingsley himself. The man born as Krishna, living up to the name his parents gave him.
I wonder how one could get in touch with similar vibes...
Me too x

The compassion and empathy for which he has for the character Don Logan is deeply profound. If we as society could muster that depth of understanding for the more damaged amongst us, we might be in a better place than we are.
Totally
That was a spooky insight into the character. "I love you, why don't you love me?"
Well if you look at the scene he has with Stan Higgins in the bar, he looks like a school child in the headmasters office. He added this facet to the character that no other actor would of
THIS!
That's a nice idea but the people who are like that for the most part can't be fixed because that part of them has been destroyed or worse not even given the chance to develop. Psychological studies of psychopaths/psychopathy (and to a lesser extent sociopaths) show that kindness and understanding only give those individuals a greater insight into how to be better psychopaths. Sadly containment is the only option.

_Gandhi_ was one of the first "serious" movies I remember watching as a child. I didn't fully understand who Mahatma Gandhi was. My mother explained he was kind of like Martin Luther King Jr which helped it make sense, but nonetheless, I was absolutely entranced and invested in "the world of the play," except it's not a play, it's actual history. I asked my dad things like, "How did they know to turn on the camera?" for certain parts of the story and things like that because I didn't yet understand how filmmaking works.
We were shown Gandhi in school in class 8th or something.. Hard to comprehend how a person could be this generous, giving, and tolerant. They don't make 'am anymore. I'm glad you, too, were exposed to such beautiful ideas and personality at an early age.
