    It's been another year of me studying at St Andrews and I've discovered a few more things I love!!! ❤️❤️
    - THE BALLS!! Whether it's the famous Christmas ball or balls from your residence or your subject, there are such an amazing experience! I've been to five balls over the past two years and it's so special. Definitely makes you fall in love with St Andrews even more!
    - THE NIGHT BUS!! There is a free night bus from around 10:30pm (and every 30 min until about 2:30am) that drives around town and has plenty of stops (so if you're going from the library or from a pub, you can get home to your accommodation safely and for free!!)
    - CEILIDH!!! Ceilidh is a traditional Scottish/Irish folk dance and omg it is so much fun. You usually get to dance it during balls or special ceilidh events. Definitely recommend trying it at least once:)
    - STUDENT-RUN CHARITY FASHION SHOWS!! There's a lot of student-run fashion shows with different themes, usually happening in the second semester. My first St.A. fashion show I attended was a couple of months ago, and it was such an unforgettable night.
    - A LOT OF CHARITY SHOPS!!!
    - THE BOTANICAL GARDEN!! I first went there at the end of last year, and I wish I'd done so much earlier! It's free for students and it's such an amazing place for a walk if you need to wind down.

    I studied philosophy at St Andrews and it was a fantastic experience. I ran on the East sands every morning (where Chariots of Fire was filmed). The tutorial system was wonderful, the beauty of the town was spectacular, the teaching was superb, the libraries great but the weather extremely cold brrrrrr!!!!!!!! You are right about the expense of the studies back in the 80's my parents were paying 14,000 per annum pounds I believe. It was a privilege to study there and I have great memories. One think I could have done without was the 'aaas' i.e, snobby British failed Oxbridge students who landed up at St Andrews who tend to hang out together at the cross keyes pub (I don't know if it still exists). Thanks for your video and greeting from Switzerland.

      @@Gs-iu4ib Small department.. it was in the 80's so a long time ago...there was some ...how can I put it...intellectual competitiveness i.e. in lecturers would ask students to justify their replies even in front of large auditoriums...it was challenging and I loved it compared to psychology and economics I found the department much more intellectually stimulating.....old library and building overlooking the sea....I thought the department was superb....it certainly challenged me....I would strongly recommend to get many much more recent opinions...all the best from Swithtezrland....during the first lecture I stood up and was channeled by the lecturer and I we deleted the existential and philosophical meaning of Valley of the Blind of Orwell...the central metaphor being that despite empirical evidence one cannot prove something to someone who is not willing to expand their consciousness....great stuff. If you study in the department of philosophy be prepared to think on your feet, study hard and expand your intellectual horizons.

    This is making me SO nostalgic for undergrad! I graduated from St Andrews in 2016, and totally agree with all of your pros - it's such a unique university (i know everyone says this but honestly, I don't think you'll find anywhere else like it). I DO NOT miss how much money I spent on rent, but this is making me want to take a trip back up to the bubble so much! Enjoy the rest of your time there, it's such a special place!

    • @AdelaAdela
      @AdelaAdela  Před 4 lety

      Yess! (but it also depends) For example, if you want to take the compulsory maths module MT1002 (which you need to have completed to take maths in second year/to switch to maths), you do need to have the A level /IB maths requirements. But if you don't, they make you take MT1001 first - an easier module that makes sure you're on the same level as everyone else taking MT1002. With most science subjects, however, you do need to have the entry requirements as they don't offer any modules like MT1001. And with arts subjects, there is usually no specific subject requirement, so you are basically free to take any arts module you'd like.

    • @jenna127
      @jenna127 Před 4 lety

      I'm a second year history student and there's never been any participation required during lectures-- there's not even attendance so you don't really have to go to every class (although it's highly recommended that you do). Tutorials (which are once a week) are smaller and usually 5-10 people (depends on the module) and it's more just like a group conversation so participating isn't stressful. If you're on the quieter side you could probably get away with only talking once per tutorial, but it's really not a stressful environment. The only thing is that you might have to give a small presentation in your tutorials, depending on what module you take (although as far as presentations go it's not very intimidating due to the small tutorial size).

      Y K Hi! So my whole application process was done through UCAS, After submitting my grade 12 results I got the un conditional offer .I have taken economics! What have you planned to take ? I think you mean if I have any financial aids? Well, there are bursaries and scholarships you can apply for but most of them have a deadline .

      You can certainly network and get placements at the university, but it's overwhelmingly likely that placements and internships will be in cities like Edinburgh or London etc. I mean Goldman Sachs doesn't have a branch in this tiny scottish town do they hahaha. I'm also interested in getting into finance.

      @@Lifeissimplebro I'm gonna do a physics degree so probably the stuff that involves lots of maths, so probably work in an investment bank, stuff that requires skill in statistics basically. My plan is to do internships during summer holidays to see what exactly I can contribute to financial institutions with my skills, and where I'd be most suited to work. Useful tip - the best way for most people to get permanent jobs in big financial firms is to do internships as early as possible and to be good at them, apply for internships and work placement at the firms ASAP, they love experience, and it's always better to start soon; you have a better chance at landing a good job if you've been trying since your first year at uni, rather than if you start applying once you've graduated. Also, there's a bit less competition for places when you apply as a first year since not that many people are already thinking of employment opportunities, it's good to be proactive! Check out the careers advice website, it's very helpful
