    00:00 Winchester Shirts Introduction
Among men’s shirts, one of the most underrated yet stylish ones is the Winchester shirt. It is a great foundational piece for business casual looks, so we’ll take a look at its history and details and share some outfit ideas here to understand why it should belong to every man’s wardrobe.
00:30 What is a Winchester Shirt?
A dress shirt style that is colored, striped, checked, or otherwise patterned but has contrasting collar and cuffs. These are almost always white. You can sometimes find models that don’t have contrasting cuffs but rather that match the body of the shirt.

Learn where the shirt and its name come from.
06:53 Features of a Winchester Shirt
Its contrasting collar, there are no set rules on what type of collar it must be. Therefore, the Winchester can come in pretty much any style of the collar.

9:11 What are the most common colors & patterns for Winchester shirts?
13:09 Outfit Examples - # 1 Classic Navy Business Suit
14:49 Outfit # 2 Gray Herringbone Patterned Suit
    15:19 Outfit # 3 Brown Patterned Suit
16:33 Where Can You Buy Winchester Shirts?
While perhaps not as common as they once were in decades past, Winchester shirts are still somewhat common, so you should be able to find them at your local department store or men’s clothing store.
We believe that the Winchester shirt may be the perfect shirt option for bringing a bit of color contrast and dynamism to your outfits while still maintaining a formal air with its white collar and cuffs. In this way, it makes for a subtly dynamic background for your other outfit accessories and, again, is something of an underrated shirt style, so we hope we’ve raised its profile today.

I work in menswear and our company tailor uses ex-MTM white collar and cuff samples to "upcycle" his casual check shirts into Winchesters. He has made both spread and cutaway styles and they look terrific! GG viewers may want to ask their tailors to do the same for their old/worn shirts for a more sustainable option rather than buying new. Great video team!

I'll be on the lookout for Winchester shirts from now on. I've been so sick & tired of the "same old-same old" of men's shirts, that I've been learning to sew!
So far I've made four hawaiian type shirts. (They're easier) They are super casual using print fabric, but ALL have a solid contrasting collar. It really sets 'em off. Never noticed that contrasting collars were "a thing". I thought I'd come up with something new.

A Couple of years ago I ordered a Winchester shirt from my shirtmaker. Blue. green, white mini stripe with the white collar and cuffs. Good looking shirt. I find myself wearing my suits without a tie more these days (extra focus on the pocket square) and I don't wear the Winchester shirt as often as i should. Seems like it just goes better with a tie. Hopefully this video will get me wearing it more often.

I live in a tropical climate in SE Asia, so it's rare for me to wear a tie. However, most of my shirts are Winchesters, point collar, hidden button-down, convertible cuffs. I'm also fortunate living in SE Asia that tailors are affordable so all my shirts are made with me going into the shop, picking a fabric, and getting a shirt made from it. I'm sure I wear them more casually than you would prefer, but I like the subtle uniqueness of the style--I don't see that many other Winchester shirts over here.

Man, I love Winchester shirts. Been wanting to get my hands on one for awhile now. Personally, I think Winchester shirts would go better with a stroller than with full morning dress. I've found a stroller is better suited for lighter, and more festive occasions where the coloured shirt body would make the whole outfit pop. I think I'll be sticking with a white shirt for full morning dress regardless of the occasion to respect the formality of the outfit. Regardless, I love your guys' content and Preston's style - never fails to make me smile :)

Striped shirts with a club collar were very popular amongst the working-class in Britain during the 1910's and 20's. The stripes often hid the fact that the shirt had not been dry cleaned, which was too expensive for most working men of that era.

Hey, do you recommend detachable collars and cuffs? Or are these shirts easy to iron?

For those who aren’t interested in going to the dry cleaners every week (-: which is most convenient and also still avoids wrinkles?

Prince Charles in those photos and slot of the royal family is going for the classic detachable collar, although is is the same look does it count or to be a Winchester does it have to be attached?

Whether the collar is detachable or not, a shirt with a contrasting collar and optionally cuffs is still a winchester shirt.

One issue with the usefulness of the wing collared Winchester shirt - at "official" events in the UK that require morning dress (I.e. events like the Royal Ascot), wing collars are no longer a valid component of the dress code (along with cravats), so you will only get use out of this kind of shirt at less "official" formal daytime events.

It's worth noting that formal ascots and wing tips are still worn in the UK for particularly formal weddings.
The wing tip collar and formal ascot were removed from the Royal Ascot Derby's dress code, partially because the derby is a more casual event, but primarily, at least in my opinion, because all the people showing up who opted for ascots were wearing pink satin pre-tied ascots that just looked awful, and so few people were wearing nice ascots that they just did away with the allowance.
