Finally, someone who knows what he's talking about. So many of these "old money" outfits are not truly old money. Great video.
Thank you, Sven. I apprecite that.
@@Lukas_Schanderlyeah we can call this a minimalist style but not old money more like new money😂
@@sarmad7120 more like posers-money.
don't forget the many YT channels who steal content and use AI voices. For me old money look means dressing well, minimalistic, no streetwear, timelessly classic, like a man and not a teenager. You can achieve all that just with Uniqlo.
I can't stand these videos as well 😂
Thanks for watching. Good points 👌
@@Lukas_Schanderl ja, die gehen auf den Sack! :)
Haha da gebe ich dir recht.
CZcams ist mittlerweile überrannt mit diesen Kanälen.
“Achieve it all with Uniqlo” what??? They are shit
I think your channel is the best explanation of old money and classic style. Old money is not simply a fashion. It's also an attitude and lifestyle. People who naturally adopt it have been accustomed to it from birth. They attended private schools and socalized with other families of similar upbringing which moulded the way they think, speak, act and dress. Social media is only covering one aspect of the multi dimensional aesthetic and most influencers don't have real experience to be able to give proper advice. They themselves are following a trend. I have friends with generational wealth and they are very conservative. Their fashion sense was gained by interacting within their own social network, not digital social media or 3rd party advice from strangers. Which brings up another criticism of people following this trend, in that they may pretend to dress old money but they are not capable of showing educated intelligence through their presentation, mannerisms or speach. I also argue that it's not the clothes or accessories that maketh the man. It's the attitude in which it is worn. e.g. If two women held the same LV handbag; one being a social media follower and the other being of old money upbringing. As soon as they start a conversation with me or I can see their body language, then I can identify instantly whether they are real or fake. I once brought up this subject of old money to a friend from generational wealth. He was confused with the labelling of his style of dress. He was offended that I mentioned the word old as he thought I was saying his style was obsolete. For him that's just how he learned to dress since birth to ensure his clothes were clean, that they fit properly and were of lasting quality. I think if old money had to be described in one word, it would be Sprezzatura.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you like the channel.
I totally agree. It comes down to it looking and feeling natural.
I am from a middle class background, so I like the look of the old money style, but I have zero experience with every other aspect of their life and what makes real old money.
The one upside of this trend is that more young people are trying to dress up more.
A brilliant comment on this brilliant channel I had a luck to come across. As someone who's coming from a poor background and has a passion for elevating, improving itself spiritually, culturally, educationally, politically, but also style-wise, I'm seriously disgusted all the pretentiousness and fakeness I would come across in this internet community (althought I understand those people, too, as no one is perfect and they are trying their best to elevate themselves, too, prehaps stand-out so they end up looking vain and arrogant...). But those mistakes made me afraid of possibly commiting the same type of mistakes and ending up like them. I'm gratefull for your channel Lukas as you are covering these subjects from a very down to earth, no-show-off, mature perspective which earned my total trust in your expertise and I'm thankful for it. Again, brilliant comment Oysterman, if you haven't taken your time to write it and express some of the similar thoughts that I had myself, I wouldn't end up typing my own comment neither.
Thanks for another great video! You're right in the first point- old money is not about showing off, it's about being confident enough in who you are to not need to. I only unbutton 2 on my shirt at most :).
Your examples are very good, and the points are spot on. I appreciate your attention to detail, and how you pull them out in these videos.
I feel like I look somewhat "old money" even though I'm more "little money" ;)
Thank you, Simon :) Totally agree.
I am also on team little money :D
What a great vid! I liked all examples of a true old money style you showed in the end.
Thank you, Anton :)
Glad you liked it.
Nice man. I'm definitely not a fan of the "10 buttons undone, smoking a cigar, wearing shades and a load of jewellery" look. Just my personal taste. I think the more classic approach is more dignified.
Thanks for watching.
I feel the same about that 😁
I was taught to keep it simple and elegant. My favorite outfit was the very last one shown, which was not necessarily simple, but was very elegant.
Thank you, Arthur.
It is a great outfit for sure :)
The Pini Parma and Ralph Lauren are my favorites among. Keep it classy, keep it simple guys!
2 fantastic brands 👌 Thanks for watching
I have been looking for this kind of channels for weeks, finally a good one, nice job!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for making this. I agree 100% I’m new to this style and was looking at tips but noticed these “old money” styles were look very forced & way too try hard
Thank you :) Glad you liked the video.
Old money men’s jewellery - at most the following at any one time: expensive watch but not covered in diamonds. If married a yellow gold wedding band/ring. Plus a signet ring with an onyx type stone - not a flashy diamond. Potentially an onyx with a small diamond but not a diamond only signet ring. That is it. Less is more.
I fully agree. Thank you for watching and for your input :)
Great video, I just find it funny that 'Old Money' has become a huge fashion phenomenon in America, in England it was always seen as a bit stuffy, old hat (literally), as it was posh people in the country where there ancestors made alot of money 200 years ago and still live off the handed down wealth and happily get by, the fashion style was Earth tone Cords, Granville Tank Tops (An old English TV show called open All Hours), Tweed jackets, clapped out old Land Rovers and the estate in need of a new roof. It's not a good look LOL
What made it sexy and popular? Is the the TV show Succession?
Not complaining as the new rendition of 'Old Money' as a fashion trend is very tasteful and I support any trend that gets men dressing better in a timeless classical way. It's way better than the sea of drab grey hooded tracksuits, sneakers and smart watches as far as the eye can see. So many thanks in spreading the culture.
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked it.
Ha I had to look up the Granville Tank Tops 😂 Definitely not a great look.
You're right. Anything that gets people to dress better is a win.
Same with the Peaky Blinders or Mad Men trend.
@@Lukas_Schanderl Regarding the above comment, it is true what is said about the landed gentry of Great Britain by the 1970s. But some were scruffy , as their fortunes had been declining for the last hundred years, and for others since the Labour Government came in in 1945( which I agreed with ) These landowners were super taxed on their estates which caused many of them to enter total decline. Many were demolished . Finally saved by becoming open to public visits etc and modernised . It is a complex story because Britain was bankrupted by the war. Regarding the fashion, British tailoring was a massive influence in the first half of the 20th Century and related to this class of people you describe the "old money" , You will see beautiful examples of it on actors like Basil Rathbone , Tyrone Power, David Niven, and many others , including Cary Grant which show that it was not a shabby era at all despite the austerity. My parents who were living in a beat -up old caravan on concrete blocks after WW2 due to the housing shortage after Dad came home from service as a soldier . still look so smart in their suits and sports jackets and tweeds and flannels (Mum in her dresses made on a sewing machine etc) No "old Money" there but they looked pretty tidy and not out of place at the racetrack with the posh types either.
Well done video, all of these were so spot on
Thank you, Zach 👌
Underrated channel , good video man
Thank you :)
Nice video to watch. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you, Antoine.
Need more of these videos where you talk about pintrest outfits. Thanks a lot for this awesome video!
Glad you liked it :) That's a good idea.
Any specific topic you would like me to cover in pinterest outfits?
Hey@@Lukas_Schanderl, I think this videos was a pretty good concept. Maybe a part 2 similar to this one?
Thank you :) Sure, that's a good idea.
Incredible video! Thank you
Thank you 🙏
The other thing I noticed about the “correct” old money style photos is that most of the men are smiling. It’s subtle, but it adds to the relaxed, natural, and unpretentious feel. Even though they’re all photo shoots, It feels like those men are just being themselves, rather than trying to be someone else, which I think was one of your more important points.
That's a great point :) You're right, it makes the photos look much more natural that way.
A new trend pops up and all of a sudden eeeverything gets lumped under the umbrella of the new label. How many times have we seen it?
I can't wait for this one to pass and leave my style alone 😅
I don't think you have to wait much longer, Vasil 😂
Probably a few months and there's something new coming.
It's still nice to see more young people try to dress up a bit more.
Love your vids, could honestly watch 20 mins+ hoping you’d make longer vids!
Could you make a video about how to dress old money for spring and summer seasons! Since it’s usually polos, trousers and loafers, without going over the top with accessories right? So I’m confused here- Thanks!
Thank you, Sarin. I really appreciate that :)
Thanks for the video suggestion :) I will put it on the list of videos.
I think you pretty much nailed it, though.
I would only add maybe some button down shirts and a light sports jacket.
Great video Lukas 👍🏼
Thank you, Per 🙌
Great video, lots of people on social wanting to look rich. One tiny detail, not that it matters, but in English we pronounce Reiss as "Ree-s" . A great brand as well. All the best!
Thanks for pointing that out, Jay.
Reiss looks like a German name, so I almost always pronounce it that way by accident 😅
One thing I noticed is that everyone you showed having a better idea of the old money look is that they’re older. I do think that old money is more of a mature look but a younger family member would be wearing something similar to the preppy look that the younger guys are wearing. There’s a reason why Grandpa looks stylish but a man in his early 20’s would be wearing “grandpas clothes” if he wore the same outfit. I think it’s ok for a younger person to be a bit more fashion forward and then change into a more classic look as they age. This is still a great video and I even got some ideas for my personal wardrobe which is going through a bit of a restructure since I’m entering my 30’s.
Great observation. You're right.
There are definitely some items that are more appropriate at different stages of our lives.
Agreed
Exactly!!! We remark the same details...
Thank you, Yolaine 🙌
What kind of socks should you wear with loafers? On these photos people tend to go no socks but in my opinion that's quite uncomfortable, especially when you go for a walk in the city. I tried noshow socks but stil you see a liitle bit of the sock? Do you guys have any recomendations?
Thanks for watching.
I typically go for no show socks but I had to try a couple until I found some that were low enough to not be visible when wearing loafers.
The ones I found were by s.Oliver
Old money: just take some picture of your 30yo grandfathers on a Sunday/Christmas day, back in the 50s, observe how he was dressed, then try to dress in a way he wouldn’t feels embarrassed for you.
Great point, Gabriele :) Back when almost everyone dressed classy.
It worked with my French grandpa, despite being a little shopkeeper he was very classy back in the days !
@@nahouledeb5949 the same for mine, a lemon warehouse keeper in Sicily back in the 50s. Classy for nowadays, normal for when people were much less rich.
It tells you something about our generations, really…
An old money casual look to me is very simple, nice trousers with a quarter zip and loafers and a nice watch
Great look for sure :) Quarter zips are fantastic.
I personally think the the combination of trendy and old money is quite admirable too. as long as they keep the outfit minimalistic, the aesthetic still pops out thou its not exactly old money
Thank you, Michael.
I agree, it's definitely a lot better than sweatpants or super baggy clothes.
Just pointed out some differences in my opinion :)
I agree with everything you said, especially with how open your shirt should be and how much jewelry a man should wear. I would have included Nantucket Red chinos. With respect to watches the Cartier tank is great as a dress watch but for a casual dressed I prefer a Santos de Cartier or a Rolex Submariner.
Thanks for watching, Walter.
The Santos is a beautiful watch as well :)
Great choices.
Yes, I like that your vids are a little more down-to-earth or whatever, especially considering that mostly we are just dealing with a lot of rebranding of looks that have been around for a while under different names or something. Decades?
Here we're trying to make Preppy style enter the Disco Era by showing off our chest hair and medallions????? Ugh. No.
Old Money, I would hope or think, would mean BUY A TIE, not LOSE some buttons...................
I tink dese are guys tryna get a date or free clothes more than anyting else.
Twinsies! But cigars are gross, anyway.
I don't get as much use out of turtlenecks as I would like.
What do you think about mock neck sweaters , I kind of prefer them over turtleneck sweaters. are they old money look ?
Thanks for watching, Victor.
I think they might not fit the traditional old money look, but they definitely look great, especially at a younger age.
@@Lukas_Schanderl I also like that mock neck sweaters don't scratch my neck beard like regular turtlenecks do
This just earned you a new subscriber!! Well done!!
Thank you so much 🙏🙌

Danke dir 👌🙏
Amazing video. I learned to dress more sophisticated about a year ago and really enjoy the minimalistic quiet luxury old money style but it doesn’t seem very authentic across social media most of the time. Too much going on, too much character-type acting, and too modern for my liking. In general I have no problem but like you mention specifically saying you’re “old money” and then wearing 3 chains and 3 bracelets just doesn’t make much sense to me.
I totally agree :) Thank you for your comment.
I think it lead towards more to new money kind of version. For boys to be exact. Not for men. But good examples to clarify
Thanks for watching, Lawrence.
You're right, it looks more like new money
Great points. I’m saying few words so I’m not accused of trying too hard
Thanks for watching.
Haha no worries 😂 I hope I didn't come across as too judgemental in the video
Good video! Greetings from germany
Thank you :)

I can't believe that this is a thing. Doesn't anyone want to just work hard for anything anymore. When I started my career on Wall Street 30 years ago. We didn't call the way we dressed old money. We call it going to work and being professional. These young people are the laziest and most fake, unintelligent generation I've ever seen.
Thank you for the video. It was very entertaining..
Thanks for watching.
Glad you liked it.
The upside of the trend is that more young people try to dress up more, even though it can be a bit staged, as is the nature of social media.
Overall a good video but high waisted wide pants are definitely a must if you want to achieve the old money look :D
Thanks for watching, Johan :)
I like high waisted, wide leg pants (at least wide to a certain degree).
The ones I meant in the video are those that flare out and become wider only at the bottom of the trousers.
lol i see so many people say they prefer to dress old money, new money, whatever but I know actual people who are old money because of aristocracy and to me, old money isn't so much how you dress but your personality and the way you behave.
Excellent video. Personally, the Ivy Style is old money. Better yet, what a gentleman of action, not talk, wears. Go watch what the male actors wear in the recent film, The Leftovers.
Thanks for the tip :) I'll make sure to check out the film.
need old money summer style guide 🤝🏻
Thanks for the suggestion 👌🙏
Social Media old money is actually old broke, LOL
Haha that's true :D
Plus, over sized or relaxed fit is also not ‘old money’ look.
I agree. Especially if the clothes are very over-sized.
Social media trend acceleration has quickly morphed the old money aesthetic into the big flowing coats, pants and cropped shirt look. It stared in Japan but it’s everywhere now.
I 100% agree, Will.
Especially all the AI channels are making it worse :D
:53 hard disagree, being too "show off" with your looks isn't a bad thing. The reality is though, that girls find this attractive. Coming from you as a guy, I can see why you might think that. It depends on the purpose of your style, style can be subjective. The term being used 'old money' can be also construed as a way to achieve a stylistic look, not always about what really represents "old money".
Just my opinion, but dressing real old money is more in-tune with dressing for business casual which is a bit stuffy. Unless you want to look like a tech nerd and not someone with some style sense, there is nothing wrong with adjusting fits to be more attractive to the eye for the opposite sex.
Thank you for watching, Jack.
To an extent, what old money is supposed to look like is also up to personal interpretation.
I just think when it feels a bit too show off, it doesn't feel right to me (personal opinion).
Nothing wrong with dressing in a way that women find attractive, but especially if you are over 30, I don't think it should look and feel too flashy (again, my opinion).
Just looking at this guy and his mannerism literally speaks old money. You remind me of someone's brother in my family business.
Thank you :) I appreciate it.
I actually come from a middle class background.
Old money style doesn't mean Old man style, yes it shouldn't be overplayed especially talking about excessive jewelry, over sized clothes otherwise a young guy in his early age that comes from an old money family will definitely follow his generation fashion but he should do it tastefully and be aware of his body nature and never go to excess especially in hair style and tattoos .
Thanks for watching, Mahmoud.
Good point. The look definitely evolves over time, but some things like the ones you mentioned (hair style, tattoos, jewelry) should remain classy.

Thank you, Yolaine :)
You are correct but need to say it more bluntly. Those photos you showed are mostly fakers. Old money is about comfort, practical approach, and timeless. However, one must possess the basic understanding why a person must dress that way. Good video 👍
Great point. Thanks for watching :)
To me most of the outfits you went over are NEW MONEY style or nouveau Riche.
I see no vintage pieces either which is a huge thing for old money as many things are passed down.
Thank you for watching.
Do you mean the outfits at the beginning or the examples at the end of the video?
I agree, especially with the ivy or preppy look, vintage pieces make a big difference.
Pini Parma - onelove!!!!
Amazing brand :)
*What is Being called old money has already attained by by uncle in 90s in India*
Well dressed uncle 👌
Nothing screams "new rich" louder than old money used as a hash tag
I think you may be convoluting what Old old-money aesthetic is. All it means is you look like you are a trust fund child. Like super-rich Russians and Euro kids who never ever live anywhere, they just sort of reside in places for a while.
It doesn't necessarily mean that everything has to be classic. It can be modern as well but it has to have that look like Gerhart Saxon-Gugenhiem would buy it, or Anastasia Romanov would wear it. That's all.
Thanks for watching.
I agree that the old money style nowadays does not have to be classic, especially since wealthy youth dresses different everywhere, but I think a lot of people are fond of the classic old money style.
For all the people not understanding. We do not # our lives.
Perhaps they haven’t fully recognized the difference between new and old money.
You're right, Nickolas.

I thought they could be called either tennis or cricket sweaters.
7:58 He's the creative director of BEAMS (Japanese departement store). Can't help but notice that your examples for old money are "old people". The young dudes are just playing dress up. My take is you cannot pull off old money unless you really are old money.
Thanks for pointing that out. I love BEAMS but I had no idea that's the creative director.
You're right. Maybve not even real old money but also just life experience that makes it more authentic.
I'm more into "no-money" style
😁
There's the trending "old money" aesthetic and then there's the "old man" aesthetic, so yeah. Which one are you? lol
Ha I think they do overlap to some degree lol
Anything wrong with new money?
Yes
Thanks for your comment. I did not talk about new money in the video.
Nothing wrong with new money, but many times, the style of new money is not necessarily the best.
If I’m old money. I would not put it under the hash tag..
if you are old money dress like an old money .. if not please don’t… sometimes I dress like that but I doesn’t mean I want give the illusion that I’m Rich..

have money first
So old money just jumbling up some really nice clothes together from rich people who don’t give a fuc bout what they wear, their clothes looks like some old rich dudes will wear. I think I like the modern old money look not for the fake rich vibe but more on the dressing sense style and combining those pieces together
those people are in shape, how about us with not so much and more closer to a dad bod
Thanks for watching.
I think all of the looks at the end of the video would also work quite well with a different physique.
A well fitting blazer or suit always works well to hide certain areas and bring the focus to the chest and shoulders.
If you are not old money, why try to be one?
Thanks for watching. It's less about pretending to be old money but rather just appreciating the look.
i’d call new old money 💀
Good point
Wait... so people who dont have old money wants to look like they have old money? The grind is getting harder for the social climber

If you like the look, I think there is nothing wrong with that.
they're just old money inspired.. not real stuff
Agreed
The "old money" style was hijacked by cheap, shitty brands peddling their crappy products.
Totally agree. Thanks for watching :)
Whats so silly are CZcamsrs saying what Old Money looks like. There's no one look. Where I live, my neighbours wear normal clothes, look very normal. It's only during special occasions where the wealth shows. What is obvious is when people try to look wealthy and they clearly are not. If you want to come off wealthy, confidence goes much further than any label.
I think you got it wrong, Old money is a Fashion trend. Basically you wear timeless pieces that don't really have to be expensive.
Old money doesnt have a clear definition.
"Old money" would simply be to look well put togheter but not being too formal.
You are being a lil bit too purist with a term that does not have a clear defintion, "old money" is a term made up from the internet
Thanks for watching, Andy.
I agree. I tried not too be too rigid with my view because in the end its up to personal interpretation, but I think some things shown as old money style are simply a current fashion trend.
If you use an expression like ’’old money’’ style instead of ’’classic’’ or ’’elegant,, timeless casual , traditional... you will sound probably a chip / vulgar/ uneducated guy trying too hard to look what he’s not, no matter what you are wearing.
Good point. I also prefer the other terms you mentioned, but unfortunately, I also have to work with the CZcams search algorithm.
I thought he was speaking german
Danke
old money look not very classy is it??
"Old money" style is nothing more than wearing expensive, conservative, WASP-y clothing.
Sockless and old money? Really?
I think in summer with no show socks and without a full suit, it works.
Yes, ""The Emperor's New Clothes " kind of style :)
Old money also isn't tattooed like a repeat offender.
Good point 😁
I think you're confusing old money with dapper. OM is more laid back, less groomed but shaved, longer hair, NO TIE (yes u heard me). For clothes no logo, no print (maybe prince of wales or marine stripes), for the watch small tank watch with leather band.
Thanks for watching.
I think it does depend a bit also on personal interpretation of what the old money style looks like.
