The creature design on The Forrest God is amazing. It goes from dangerous and ferocious to childlike and scared back to ferocious and then into morbid and beautiful. All in a matter of seconds.

Man this scene always gets me emotionally at the end, Hellboy can relate to being the last of his kind and realizes how terrible The Forest God feels, and the flowers and greenery blossoming at the end too just perfect

The emotion swing of the creature is amazing as well. From wrath, to fear and misery and then one final lunge. It becomes sad and then beautiful.

I felt bad for all the beautiful, dark creatures in this film. This was one of Guillermo del Toro’s most imaginative works.

What I love about the Forest God besides it's design is the fact that while it follows the order given to it, it's still a living sentient being and not a mindless killing machine. It still felt things like anger, hatred, confusion and fear, it woke up in a world it doesn't understand, it's alone and afraid and beyond what it's told to do it doesn't know what to do, it just carries out it's purpose because it never knew anything else but mindlessly following the orders of one that was clearly smaller and weaker than it, Just like Hellboy himself

He wants to protect mystic creatures yet he sents the last of its kind to fight a well-known monster killer
I believe that he was hoping that it would Suede red into joining his side. Also it seemed to reproduce at the end with its spores

The mother could've at least said thank you. The baby didn't get harmed or nothing, and he made it his priority to protect the child.
You're expecting humans to be reasonable, we fear what we don't understand. We hate what is different from us. It's why alot of people would like heroes like Superman rather than Hellboy. You could look at him and see a human, you look at Hellboy and could call him a monster. That is without context though in a world where you know nothing about him.

That movie came out more than a decade ago, and I still look back often at the Forest God, for its amazing design, and most importantly, the awesome and beautiful idea of its blood acting like instant plant-life on everything it touches.
If it was the last of its kind, why'd Nuada use it as a pawn? Isn't he about saving lives of non-human beings?
He was desperate to fight humanity considering what we've done to Earth. He wanted to punish us at all cost.

He actually lied and told the truth at the same time, it was the last of its kind but it doesn't meant it will not reproduce. After it dies the flower on its head blooms and sends spores in the air it will take hundreds or thousands of years to reach infancy and another thousands of years to reach maturity.

One of the best scenes I've ever seen in a fantasy movie, the death of the eleme tal was so freaking sad but yet magical
The answer to the question 'why the prince sent that last of it's kind creature to fight' is due to his belief that HB would not kill it (cuz it's magnificent, unique, a god, different like HB himself) or would at least consider switching sides
Yeah, HB is very important for choosing human's fate, so bribing or persuading him could do a difference. HB would have end us already in Hellboy 1 or 2 if HB's Girlfriend dies.
I'd say he hoped that HB would join them and if not thought that elemental would kill him
Man Del Toro made it like no one else could. While all frightened by all the monsters you still feel that they're not pure evil, even Nuada has understandable reasons for his doing.

I liked this movie better than the original. I never saw the reboot, but the monsters, especially the angel of death remind me of pans labyrinth. So unique and creepy.

The reboot was decent. Monster designs were cool, actors were top notch, problem was the story. It needed to be worked on a little bit more.

Last of it's kind for now. Those spores definitely look like they'll grow into new ones but most likely take thousands of years. So in a sense Nuada was right about the world not seeing it's kind again.
We can only hope that it's kind will live again

It's really unfortunate honestly. You know that it was used as a weapon in this case and likely wouldn't have been this normally hostile. but considering it just was born, and had just woken up basically in a completely unknown land with unknown things around it... probably made the thing constantly panic. That and something about Hellboy seemed to make it uneasy considering it kept going specifically for him.
This scene is amazing, but the scene after this really pisses me off. Ungrateful mother and crowd, and they want to arrest him for saving their lifes, damn those people

However everyone forgets that being a hero is not for fame, glory, nor recognition.... It's because it's the right thing to do.

I read that killing it would release thousands of spores that eventually mature into its offspring, though I haven't verified if this is true.
Cause it's not gonna die off. It releases spores that will all grow into new ones.

This sequence was tragically beautiful. I still think Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman have one more Hellboy story left in them to tell.

That roar at 1:45 was so loud in the theater that I dropped some mud
The juxtapositions in this sequence are godtier. We have a monster fighting a monster, but being perceived as the actual threat despite the fact we - the audience - know he's a good guy. The elemental wreaks destruction, because it just came alive, it has no idea what's going on - until it knows it's destined to die. It didn't figure anything in the world out besides the jumpy red insect it was playing with. The thing it saw last, before its destruction brought creation.
Death is beautiful. Death is loss. Death is pain. Death is pleasure. Death is momentary, and forever. Just, so much in a scene of our hero fighting a monster saving a baby. Truly a masterpiece

Less dark than the first, equally magnificent, I would definitely like to watch a sequel!
I'm pretty sure that if I were driving along and suddenly the whole city block shook like I was in the middle of an artillery barrage that my first reaction would NOT be to slam on my brakes and get out of my vehicle.
This is a very impactful, dramatic, well executed scene done in this movie.
I really enjoy how Hellboy even though he is on the side of humans, is weighing his responsibility as a supernatural being in exterminating other beings similar to his kind.
It really makes one ponder upon their own struggling decisions that may have that crossed between two sides their a part of
this scene does a great job of feeling epic while making me feel sorry for it

I like how Guillermo wanted every fight in this movie to be completely different. At this point we’d seen a bare knuckle fight with Mr. Wink, that awesome anime style sword fight with the Prince, the Tooth Fairy fight, and then suddenly Hellboy fights a damn Kaiju!
Hellboy loves hanging onto "rescued" babies for WAYYYYY too long during combat
The baby later turned into a thrill junkie but could never get the same high it got as that fateful day
I love how Nuada didn't seek revenge for Wink's death and instead tried to sway Hellboy to his side

This was my favorite scene out of the whole movie.
That baby must have major abs. No head support or nothing jumping around being held by a strong tail on the middle of the baby's back and didn't shift or bend under it's weight once. I need to hire this kid as a fitness instructor ASAP!

@@Dreez76 I disagree. Sure, Nuada's words are compelling only because it applies to the world at large.......but it's not the whole truth. Hellboy has human friends, and there are humans out there trying to make the world a better place. There's always a seed of possibility, a chance that humanity will gradually right its wrongs given time. That's why Hellboy and his friends continue to fight.
Ultimately Nuada is still the bad guy in my eyes because he's willing to take innocent lives to meet his end goal of creating what he feel will be a better world.
